The fairy maid cheers for her deceased master today.

097 Investigating clients is not a good habit.

Just as a clue about James was discovered, James arrived.

This is too much of a coincidence.

Angel was trembling with fear. She was probably terrified.

Ax didn't seem to mind. James had already said they would meet here, so he gestured for Elena and Angel to stay calm before slowly walking to the door and opening it.

Officer James stood outside the door, his signature bright smile on his face.

"Sir Axe, Miss Elena, Miss Angel!" he greeted them warmly, his gaze quickly sweeping over the three of them. "Have you discovered any clues?"

Ax stood calmly in front of Angel, smiling slightly. "Nothing special has been found yet. Lucy's place is very clean, with almost no personal belongings. There aren't even any receipts."

"Really?" James frowned slightly. "Then let me take a look. Maybe I can find some details you've overlooked."

Before Ax could respond, he walked straight into the room, his gaze sweeping over every corner like a hawk's.

Angel gripped X's clothes tightly, her small hands trembling slightly.

The streets of London outside the window were still bustling, with carriage wheels rolling over the cobblestones and the faint sounds of pedestrians talking. But inside the apartment, it was so quiet you could hear your own heartbeat.

"Miss Angel, you seem very nervous." James looked at her for a moment, then suddenly turned to Angel, his smile still gentle. "Have you noticed anything?"

In their previous interactions, he had realized that Angel's five senses were extremely sharp, making it easy for her to notice anything unusual.

Angel's heart nearly leaped out of her throat, her mind went blank, and she could only instinctively shake her head: "We didn't find anything."

"Really?" James took a step closer, his eyes subtly turning cold. "Your reaction seems a bit off."

Just as Ax was about to step forward and pretend to help her out naturally, he saw Angel suddenly straighten her back, a stubborn determination flashing in her blue eyes.

"We really didn't find anything!" Her voice was perfectly calm. "It's so clean here, there wasn't a single clue left!"

James stared at Angel for a few seconds, then suddenly burst into laughter: "Haha, I knew it! Miss Angel is so adorable, how could she lie?"

Ax secretly admired Angel's composure—Angel looked simple, but she always showed strong mental fortitude at crucial moments. Facing James's probing, she didn't reveal any flaws, but instead acted as naturally as a curious child.

Angel blinked her big, watery eyes, her tone full of curiosity:

"Speaking of which, is Lucy a germaphobe? Everything is so neatly arranged, there's not even a speck of dust!"

James scratched the back of his head.

"That's true. The police came here once before, but they didn't find anything. Sheriff Doyle even thought investigating this place was futile."

"Alright, since we haven't found anything, let's go."

"Ex said, pulling Angel toward the door."

Just as Ax and the two fairies were about to step out of the apartment, James suddenly called out to stop them: "Wait a minute, everyone!"

The three turned around and saw James standing in front of the desk, clutching the notebook they had just flipped through.

Irene had, of course, already put away the piece of paper with the scribbled content.

But that couldn't stop James from discovering something amiss with the notebook.

"This notebook..." James's tone suddenly turned serious, "Have you guys looked at it?"

Ax's heart tightened, but he remained calm on the surface: "No, it's just an ordinary notebook."

James didn't respond, but instead took a pencil out of his pocket and began to lightly scribble on the blank pages of his notebook.

He had personally witnessed X use this move at Caroline's residence.

Now, he simply copied it and used it.

A few seconds later, James's face turned completely grim.

"Watch out for James Wilson!" he read aloud the words displayed in the notebook, his voice calm. "This is...this is my name..."

Axe watched James's reaction intently.

Since we've already been caught red-handed, we might as well lay it all out in the open.

"James," Ex said, looking directly into the young officer's eyes, his tone no longer as familiar as before, "it seems you're involved in this case. Tell me, what exactly are you involved in?"

"Otherwise, I will go directly to Inspector Doyle and explain the situation clearly. If the London police are also involved, it will be difficult to explain this to anyone."

James's expression grew increasingly grim. After a few seconds of silence, he abruptly ripped off his gentle facade, a dangerous glint in his eyes: "Heh heh heh heh..."

"you……"

"Alright, alright, since you've found out, I'll just say it. Sigh, I always said I'm not suited to be in the police station."

James straightened up and touched his nose.

"It's exhausting to always pretend. Ah, finally I'm free, and I don't have to listen to that old man Doyle's nagging anymore."

They started calling Sheriff Doyle "old man."

They were hiding it so well. Even Sheriff Doyle, a man of considerable experience, hadn't discovered the true nature of his men.

Ex and Elena watched him warily. Elena's magic was already gathering in her hands, while Angel hurriedly hid behind Ex.

James chuckled and then removed his hand from the gun at his waist.

"Don't be nervous, everyone. We're all on the same page. We're all working to solve the case..."

"But I feel like our goals aren't aligned," X shrugged. "I don't know what your purpose is."

James chuckled. "No, the theft of the silverware. That's my goal: to find the person who stole the magical silverware. So there's no need for us to make things so tense."

"Unfortunately, we still lack trust. What exactly do you know?" Ex pressed, his eyes sharp as knives.

James's eyes narrowed slightly. "Let me remind you, knowing too much won't do you any good. You're detectives hired by the police; your job is to investigate this silver theft. Find out where the silver went, and don't worry about anything else."

"But the problem is we're detectives." Elena narrowed her eyes.

As a fake detective, she inherited Catherine's integrity and courage, and immediately questioned:

"Because we were commissioned by the police, everyone involved in the case needs to be investigated. That includes you, Officer James."

"...Even if it means you all disappear?"

That statement is already far too blunt.

Ex frowned. "Are you threatening us?"

"No, I'm warning you." James's tone suddenly calmed down, but the danger in his eyes did not diminish at all. "Listen, I advise you to stop investigating—focus on investigating the whereabouts of the magical silverware, don't look for Lucy, and definitely don't look for me."

He took a step forward, his gaze sweeping across the three faces as if weighing something.

"If you don't listen to my advice and insist on investigating... the consequences will be dire. Believe me, I have the ability to make you disappear completely, leaving not a trace."

As soon as he finished speaking, James's face lit up with that warm smile again, as if the threat from before had never existed.

"Alright, I just came to give you a heads-up. Since we haven't found any clues, I'll head back to the police station now. Goodbye, Sir Axe, Miss Elena, Miss Angel."

He turned to leave, but at the door he turned back, a strange smile on his face: "Remember my words, keep them firmly in your heart. Heh..."

He left with a meaningful smile, pushed open the door, and walked out.

The room fell into a deathly silence, broken only by the sound of a carriage outside the window. The distant church bells tolled intermittently, but at this moment, they seemed to strike a chord deep within people's hearts.

My former good teammate has suddenly become someone I need to investigate. This contrast came a little too quickly.

"Master..." Angel murmured softly, her voice filled with unease, "What should we do now?"

Ax smiled slightly: "Of course we'll continue investigating. We came here specifically for the silver theft case, and we can't close the case until we've investigated it thoroughly. As for Officer James, I don't believe he's any better than Spring-Heeled Jack."

With this comparison of strength, Angel blinked and suddenly felt that it made a lot of sense.

What's so scary about James? He's nothing compared to a fairy's magic!

Irene nodded emphatically, her emerald eyes burning with the same determination: "That's right, no matter who's behind this, we'll get to the bottom of it!"

However, we need to talk to Sheriff Doyle first.

Sheriff Doyle was introduced by Deacon Samuel, so he should be trustworthy.
