The fairy maid cheers for her deceased master today.
112. Bartenders are the real intelligence masters.
After the introductions, Hans quickly handed over his business card, as was customary.
He bowed and presented the business card face up to Ax with both hands, so that Ax could see the words on the card.
"This is my business card. I wonder if you would be willing to accept it, Sir Moore?" Hans asked cautiously.
"Of course, I will."
X took the business card with one hand, glanced at it briefly, and then handed it to Angel beside him.
Angel took a small box from her person, opened it, and put the business cards inside. Ax noticed that there was already a stack of business cards in the box… it seemed to be a special business card holder.
"Sir, you're busy. I have something to attend to, so I'll be leaving now."
No matter how well Hans tried to hide his expression, his actions still revealed that he didn't want to have any more contact with Ax.
Or perhaps he simply didn't want to continue discussing matters related to Kiran in front of the nobles.
After Mr. Hans left, Axe asked Kiran, "He wanted to see you... about testing the potion?"
"I'm sorry, this is my own business, Sir. I don't want to discuss it further."
"No, I'm the one who should apologize," X apologized immediately. "It was my rudeness to pry into a fairy's private affairs."
"You're a really strange person... Are you really a nobleman?"
Kilan was clearly a little uncomfortable with the nobles showing such respect to the fairies.
Then, for her ungratefulness, she was glared at fiercely by Angel.
AX smiled and gently patted Angel's silver hair, but his gaze shifted to the bartender behind the bar who was wiping glasses.
In reality, he was the real target of X's trip.
The person with the best inside information is never one of the drinkers... but rather the one behind the bar.
"Three 'Victoria's Tears,'" Ax ordered in the local slang, sliding a few silver coins across the brass bar.
The bartender paused, looked up at X, and then gave a knowing smile.
Victoria's Tears is not some rare treasure; it's simply a euphemism for wine.
"Good taste, jazz," the bartender murmured, expertly mixing a gin and tonic. "Only connoisseurs dare to order this in the club."
He pushed three glasses of pale golden liquid in front of X, Angel, and Kilan respectively, and Kilan's eyes widened in surprise.
"Sir, this...this is very valuable!" Kilan said softly, his fingers lightly touching the rim of the glass.
Gin and tonic are signature drinks of upscale clubs; it's rare to find such exquisite preparations in ordinary bars.
"Don't mention it," Ax said with a smile. "In exchange, I'd like to ask you a few questions."
"Please speak." After accepting the wine, Miss Kilan Fairy became much easier to talk to.
"Do you know a fairy named Caroline? She used to come to the club quite often."
"Is this... related to what happened yesterday?" Kilan was a little confused.
However, she wasn't really interested in investigating the matter; she simply followed up by asking, "Do you have a photo of her?"
Axe immediately showed the photos.
Kilan shook his head: "I do think I've seen him before... but I'm not familiar with him. Sorry, I couldn't be of any help."
"fine……"
"What do you want to know about her?"
The bartender, however, chuckled and chimed in while wiping the glasses.
"Caroline, a fairy, do you know her?" Ex got straight to the point.
"Of course, that fairy lady with the beautiful hairstyle."
The bartender put down his glass, leaned forward slightly, and said in a low voice.
"He has indeed come a few times, and each time he has a serious expression. When drinking, he always likes to ask me for information."
"If you don't mind, may I ask what she asked?" X pressed, tapping his fingers lightly on the bar.
Angel had just taken a couple of sips of wine and was now listening intently.
"The questions were very technical," the bartender recalled. "She asked about technical terms like drug efficacy parameters and dosage units, which sounded like... the language used internally by some pharmaceutical companies."
"Internal language? I'd like to know more. What kind of internal language is it? Could you explain in detail?"
Ax leaned forward slightly, and Angel followed suit, her blue eyes full of curiosity.
"For example, she would ask, 'What is the efficacy decay curve of this drug at the standard dose?' or 'What is the deviation value of the active ingredient between different batches?'"
The bartender seemed to be mimicking Caroline's tone.
"To be honest with you, Sir, I've heard these words from Mr. Hans when he spoke with others."
Ex immediately realized that a clue had been found.
This bartender's information must be very accurate.
Therefore, Caroline is very likely an employee of the pharmaceutical company.
Even...more likely, it's someone from Mueller Pharmaceuticals. Just a possibility.
However, this makes everything make sense. The reason Caroline is pursuing information about "Little Gospel" is very likely because her true identity (or some other identity) is in the pharmaceutical industry, and she needs some information about it.
In short, Caroline's use of pharmaceutical company jargon suggests that even if she wasn't from Mueller, she was sent by another pharmaceutical company.
The search scope has narrowed.
Miss Fairy Kiran listened while looking at the photo in her hand.
Perhaps because she had drunk the drinks ordered by the jazz, she felt she would be embarrassed not to contribute something. So she racked her brains for a moment, then suddenly exclaimed, "Ah!"
"I remember now, this fairy once talked with Aspasia for a long time."
Ex: "Aspasia?"
The bartender put down his glass and pointed in the direction of the club's office.
"Aspasia is the assistant here, Manager Smith's assistant. Now that you mention it, Miss Caroline did indeed have a long conversation with the club's assistant, Aspasia, once."
He lowered his voice and added again, "Aspacia deals with people from pharmaceutical companies frequently, so perhaps she knows more."
"Aspacia?" Ex repeated the name, quickly piecing together clues in his mind.
Isn't that the female employee who was standing next to Manager Smith when we first met?
"Yes, she's the club's female assistant, who usually greets important guests," the bartender explained. "When she's not busy, she likes to stand in that corner."
He pointed to a small platform on the east side. It was away from the other tables and certainly suitable for discussing something more private.
"What did Caroline say to her?" Ex pressed.
The bartender shook his head: "They're too far away to hear clearly. But they talked for a long time, and Miss Caroline seemed very anxious."
He picked up the glass again and slowly wiped the rim. There seemed to be no more information.
Ax nodded thoughtfully, having already sketched out a rough outline in his mind.
Caroline, an informant in the silver theft case, is suspected to be a fairy of the same faction as James… her death is shrouded in mystery. Finding her other identity might unlock the identity of the nobleman she truly served.
Then what are we waiting for? We should go and have a chat with Miss Aspasia.
