The fairy maid cheers for her deceased master today.
115 The Baron's Invitation
The administrator was actually referring to past news.
He did not know the specific details, saying he only remembered that it had happened.
Therefore, after completing the investigation, X took Angel away from the Patent Office, intending to go back first, tell Elena about the clues they had collected, and then discuss the next steps.
But as soon as they stepped out of the patent office, Angel's pointed ears stood up, and she jumped up and stood in front of X.
"Master, be careful!"
The light of magic gathered in Angel's palm.
At the entrance, three men in black surrounded them.
The three men surrounded X, seemingly afraid that X would escape.
But surprisingly, their tone was very gentle.
"Excuse me, are you Sir Axe?"
X held Angel down. Although his other hand was already on his revolver.
"Don't misunderstand, Sir. We were sent by the Baron to invite you."
"baron?"
"Yes, it's Baron Simon."
What a coincidence!
I had only just begun investigating, following the leads, to the company behind Caroline and the head of the pharmaceutical company. How could it have happened so quickly…
As if lost in thought, or perhaps inspired, Ex glanced into the distance.
Then he saw Officer James, with his hat pulled low, turn and walk away in the distance.
...They were being completely watched.
James has always been serious.
It seems that by not directly investigating Lucy or James, but by pretending to investigate the theft of the magical silverware, he had indeed managed to appease him.
However, since it's an invitation...
Seeing the slightly surprised look on the old administrator's face behind him, and the curious onlookers, Ax knew that the other party wouldn't try anything funny under such public scrutiny.
"Alright, I'll go with you. But where are we going?"
"This might be the place you most want to go, Sir... the headquarters of Mueller Pharmaceuticals."
■
The glass windows reflected the midday sun, and the massive scale of the building seemed to speak of the pharmaceutical company's glory and ambition.
This was the first time Ax had seen the headquarters building of Muller Pharmaceuticals.
He had to admit that the buildings of the wealthy were indeed more impressive.
"Master, this place is so big!" Angel stood on tiptoe, her blue eyes sparkling with curiosity, but at the same time, she was observing everything around her with the vigilance of a little rabbit.
The person who came to greet us was not a company employee.
Instead, he was a butler dressed in an elegant tailcoat. The butler also had a fine sword hanging at his waist, exuding an air of high society.
"Sir Moore, welcome. Baron Simon awaits you in the tea room."
Ax nodded.
The two then followed the butler through a long corridor covered with a deep red carpet.
The tea room, located on the third floor of the building, is an ornately decorated room.
Several oil paintings depicting moving gears powered by steam hang on the dark wooden wall panels. The bookshelves are filled with classical literature and drama collections, while several heavy medical tomes are placed in the most prominent positions.
On an exquisite oak coffee table, a set of bone china teaware gleamed warmly under the gaslight.
Beside the window, there were two potted plants made entirely of metal, gleaming in the light.
Baron Simon stood by the window, his back to the door, gazing at the bustling street outside. He wore a dark gray tailcoat, exuding the elegance and majesty characteristic of nobility.
The butler announced, "Your Excellency, the guests have arrived."
"Baron Simon." Ax nodded slightly, his voice calm and polite.
Baron Simon slowly turned around, a warm smile immediately spreading across his face: "Sir Moore, and Miss Angel, welcome to Muller Pharmaceuticals."
His gaze swept over the human and the fairy, finally settling on X, a barely perceptible scrutiny flashing in his eyes.
"You flatter me, Baron," Ax replied, maintaining a polite distance.
"Please sit, please sit," Baron Simon gestured for the two to be seated, and personally poured them tea. "I heard you're still investigating the silver theft case; I imagine you've made some progress?"
There were no formalities, no preamble.
Baron Simon asked the question so directly, which surprised even Ax.
However, it's better to get straight to the point and avoid unnecessary talk.
So Ax took the teacup, feeling the warmth emanating from its walls: "I have indeed made some discoveries, but I have also encountered quite a few perplexing situations."
A flicker of interest crossed Baron Simon's eyes: "Oh? Could you tell me about it?"
Axe took a sip of tea, the temperature of which was just right. "First, I confirmed Miss Caroline's identity. She is not only a participant in the silverware escort mission, but also a researcher at Mueller Pharmaceuticals, responsible for the development of 'Dre Vitality Essence'."
Baron Simon's expression shifted slightly, but he quickly regained his composure: "The fairy Caroline was indeed an excellent researcher for us. We all deeply regret her death."
"Does Your Excellency know that Miss Caroline is also secretly selling drugs at the Moonlight Club?" Ax continued to ask, his eyes fixed on the Baron's reaction.
Baron Simon gently set down his teacup, his fingers tapping lightly on the rim. "The Moonlight Club? That's...an interesting place. Caroline did go there a few times, supposedly to gather...market feedback."
"Market feedback?" Ax raised an eyebrow.
"Yes," Baron Simon nodded. "Dre Vitality Essence is a product we're testing. It's very popular in the underground fighting community, and Caroline wants to get real user feedback so she can improve the product."
Axe pondered, "So after Miss Caroline was murdered, other employees from the pharmaceutical company took over her work?"
"You could say that," Baron Simon said, his expression unchanged, "but I'm not entirely clear on the specifics. As you know, I basically don't get involved in company matters."
No, I have absolutely no idea. You're probably talking nonsense.
Baron Simon spoke first again: "Sir Axe, you seem to have gone off-topic. What I want to know is... about the theft of the magical silverware."
"Still under investigation."
X sighed.
"Caroline's murder was very likely because she knew something. So I'm investigating Caroline's movements all along, hoping to observe everything from the same perspective and thus determine what Caroline discovered."
Ex made up a reason on the spot.
"What are your thoughts on the silver theft, Baron?" Ax then tossed the ball back. "I think we still need to find Lucy to make any progress, but..."
But I was threatened by James.
Ax didn't say that out loud.
They're all smart people; not saying anything is as good as saying something. And saying it might not even be pleasant to hear, so it's better to leave it at that.
Baron Simon leaned forward slightly, his voice low: "Couldn't we... bypass Lucy and directly find out where the stolen magical silverware went? Aren't you and Miss Elena both detectives?"
"Your Excellency, even detectives aren't omnipotent. Clues are the prerequisite for deduction."
"...What if I told you some other clues about those magical silver artifacts?"
"What do you mean?" Ex was taken aback. This was unexpected.
Baron Simon looked around to make sure no one else was there, and then continued.
"I can tell you that those silver items... are worth far more than their actual use to some people."
"What makes you say that?"
Baron Simon did not answer directly, but instead picked up his teacup and took a sip: "You must have heard of cults, right?"
X nodded, then shook his head: "I've heard of it, but I've never seen it."
"The silverware made for the 'divine blessing ritual' has specific magical properties and needs to be placed in a specific position in the ritual to ensure its proper functioning."
Baron Simon's voice deepened: "But since they are ritual items... they can certainly be used in other magical rituals as well. Therefore, cults also need them."
