"Luo Fan, why aren't you running?"

Kant looked anxious. Jonas was right. Wouldn't they die if they stayed where they were?

They ran in one direction with the prisoners, then separated, and if they were lucky, they might still have a chance to escape.

"Don't run!"

Luo Fan's voice was unusually firm, "If you trust me, staying here is the safest place for us!"

He deduced that the demonic corpse was most likely afraid of the firelight, which was why it kept slowly approaching the edge of the light.

If you choose a direction and run desperately, you might actually have a chance to escape, but doing so is equivalent to completely handing over your fate to luck.

What if you're unlucky and the first person the demonic corpse chases is you?

That's when there's truly no other way.

Moreover, what if even so, no one can escape?

No one knows how powerful that demonic corpse is, but it is definitely a terrifying existence.

Kant once gave himself a black loaf of bread; he couldn't just stand by and watch Kant die.

"Those guards aren't paying attention to us. We can run in the same direction as them; maybe that will give us a better chance of escaping. Are you scared out of your wits?"

Kant glanced in the direction the guards had fled, feeling very anxious.

He couldn't understand why Luo Fan, such a young man, was so timid, only daring to cower here.

"We can't match their physical strength, and we're much slower. Once those prisoners are all dead and the demonic corpses catch up, we'll be the ones waiting to die."

Luo Fan shook his head again. Just then, he saw a blurry black shadow flash by in the darkness, heading in the direction the guards had fled.

It moved at an extraordinary speed, leaving only a fleeting glimpse.

He was startled.

Kant also saw the dark figure, his face turning deathly pale: "The demonic corpse actually went after those guards first?"

Luo Fan was unable to calm down, and a bad premonition arose in his heart.

That fleeting figure was undoubtedly a demonic corpse. It didn't chase after the large number of prisoners, but instead chased after a few guards first.

Does it pursue enemies based on their relative strength?

"Ahhh!! No!"

Just then, a violent scream came from the direction the prisoner had fled. The sound of bones being broken was clear and echoed in the dense forest, as if it were ringing right next to one's ears, sending chills down one's spine.

Kant was so frightened that he fell to the ground, his lips trembling, unable to speak for a moment.

"There's another demonic corpse?!"

Luo Fan felt a chill run down his spine. One demonic corpse was already terrifying enough, but there was another one hidden in the darkness?

One went after the guards and others, while the other hid in the direction the prisoner had fled.

This...this...

Luo Fan felt true despair at this moment. What should he do with two demonic corpses?

"Ah!"

Another scream rang out, sounding terrifying in the silent, dense forest.

Luo Fan felt ice-cold all over, and in less than ten seconds, the second prisoner also died.

How do I run?

There's no way they can escape; a human's speed is nowhere near that of a demonic corpse.

If it's just one prisoner, there's still a chance, but if it's two, choosing to escape with the prisoners will only lead to certain death!

The screams that echoed from the dense forest from time to time were like death knells, constantly pressing on Luo Fan's tense nerves.

His mind raced, frantically trying to find a way to survive.

Kant collapsed to the ground, huddled in a ball, trembling uncontrollably, his face filled with despair.

This feeling of waiting for death to gradually approach is more agonizing than any other method.

"Damn it!! I'll fight you to the death!"

A roar of resentment rang out, the voice full of energy, but it came from the other end.

Luo Fan recognized the voice; it belonged to one of the guards. The guards were indeed physically stronger than the prisoners, as it took them half a minute to be caught by the demonic corpse.

But is half a minute really enough?

It's only thirty seconds. Even if you're fast, how far can you escape in half a minute?

"No!!"

Without hearing any fighting, the guard's screams quickly followed, all within a few seconds; he didn't even have time to stall for a moment.

"This demonic corpse is too terrifying. Whoever gets caught will only face death."

Luo Fan watched the campfire gradually shrink and threw in flammable materials such as straw mats. The flames flickered and seemed to grow a little bigger.

But this is far from enough.

The fire will eventually go out, and once the fire is out, that is the time of death.

The first to fall silent was the prisoners' side. One scream after another rang out until now, when all was quiet. The dense forest was shrouded in darkness, eerily quiet, as if nothing had happened.

But Luo Fan knew that all the prisoners had died in less than three minutes.

Three minutes, a time that used to pass quickly, now felt like an eternity.

Luo Fan looked up, his heart skipped a beat, and he unconsciously took a step back.

The demonic corpse stood eerily at the edge of the firelight, its scarlet eyes fixed on him, a cruel smile playing on its lips, blood-red beads dripping from between its teeth, its entire body stained with bright red blood, and a stench of blood wafting through the air.

Under such gazes, Luo Fan felt like a lamb to the slaughter.

Kant stood up shakily, staring at the demonic corpse, as if he had made a decision.

"Luo Fan, staying here is just torture. We have to run. I'll run first, and you run in the opposite direction as fast as you can. Don't look back. I hope you can survive."

He pounded his thighs a few times to calm his trembling legs, his voice trembling, carrying a deathly yet determined air.

Hearing this, Luo Fan felt inexplicably uneasy. He grabbed Kant's arm again: "It's no use, running will only make you die faster."

Kant gave a bitter laugh: "What else can I do? I've had enough... living is just suffering anyway."

"Let's fight it!"

Luo Fan mustered his courage and stared at the demonic corpse, gritting his teeth.

"Fight?" Kant looked at Luo Fan as if he had heard something horrifying. "Even those guards weren't a match for this demonic corpse, how can we fight it?"

"In short, if you don't fight, you'll die!"

Luo Fan's gaze fell on the military longsword Jonas had discarded, and a series of thoughts flashed through his mind: "I'll try to hold off this demonic corpse for a while; you need to pick up the sword and attack it as quickly as possible!"

"Don't joke around, what can you possibly do?"

Kant thought that Luo Fan was terrified. How could two weak prisoners want to kill the ferocious demon corpse in front of them?

"Even if it's a dead end, it has to be a way! We'll either fight or we die, so let's fight!"

Luo Fan was also trying to encourage himself with these words, as he didn't know if the tricks he had come up with would work on the demonic corpse.

He had previously been a carefree 21st-century youth, never having faced such a terrifying existence. The faint courage he felt now was only a result of being driven to the brink of despair.

If his methods fail, death awaits him.

But even if he doesn't fight now, death is still waiting for him.

If that's the case, why not give it a shot?
