The Northern Song Dynasty returned south, seeking the truth of the Dao.
Chapter 53 A Dream Interrupted by Clear Sound
"Sir? With enemies at our doorstep and your eye ailment, I, though lacking spiritual cultivation, can become your eyes. Please, sir, do not abandon me!"
Wang Zhenhuan grasped Xuan Yangzi's hand, his voice filled with excitement. Although Wang Zhenhuan had always longed to enter the Daoist path of cultivation, the current situation...
Having Xuan Yangzi perform the infusion on his body would not only waste Wang Zhen's spiritual energy, but would also prevent him from getting out of bed for three months. If he were to actually agree, he would undoubtedly be placing himself in a position of disloyalty and filial impiety.
"What are you thinking, kid? This isn't a body infusion, but rather using spiritual energy to help clear your meridians. Over time, it can achieve the same effect as a body infusion," Xuan Yangzi said with a smile and a shake of his head.
"Oh...I see." Wang Zhenhuan was both embarrassed and relieved. He had thought that Xuan Yangzi was going to abandon him and go fight Yin Laomo on his own. Although the two of them hadn't spent much time together, Wang Zhenhuan already respected him as his master.
He obediently lay down on the bed, letting Xuan Yangzi hold his hand. Xuan Yangzi said, "Calm your mind and focus your energy. What I am about to say, you must carefully remember."
"Yes, I'll remember that, kid," Wang Zhenhuan replied softly after closing his eyes.
"Meridian points are the foundation of spiritual practice. The human body has 365 main acupoints and nearly 2,000 smaller acupoints. It's enough to know the smaller ones; you don't need to memorize them."
You only need to remember about three hundred major acupoints. To talk about acupoints, we must first discuss meridians. The human body has twelve regular meridians and eight extraordinary meridians. Meridians are like the roads of my great Song Dynasty…
"The twelve regular meridians are the twelve official roads, while the eight extraordinary meridians are the paths in the countryside. The official roads connect north and south, while the paths run east and west. Do you understand?" Xuan Yangzi asked.
"Understood, the twelve meridians connect the upper and lower body, and the eight extraordinary meridians connect the left and right sides," Wang Zhenhuan replied. At this moment, he felt that familiar coolness again in his palm. Only then did he realize. It turned out that Xuan Yangzi had been secretly helping him open up his meridians in the past few days.
"Well, acupoints are important nodes on the meridians, and most of the acupoints in the human body are located on these twenty meridians. These acupoints are closed after a person is born."
The first hurdle in Qi cultivation is to open these acupoints, allowing spiritual energy to circulate freely throughout the body's meridians. If we compare these acupoints to river dams, then the spiritual energy is the river water.
Only when the river reaches a certain volume does it have the power to break through the dam. Our breathing is how we accumulate this volume. The spiritual energy of heaven and earth that we absorb is all stored three inches below our navel, in a location called the Dantian (lower abdomen).
Once sufficient strength is gained, the obstruction of the acupoints can be broken through. This is the process of opening up the meridians. Once the acupoints are broken through, they are almost impossible to close again without external force.
Xuan Yangzi's explanation was clear and concise, and Wang Zhenhuan immediately understood his meaning. He carefully sensed the direction and location of Xuan Yangzi's spiritual energy after it entered his body.
"Bear with it for a moment, and sense it carefully," Xuan Yangzi said, increasing the flow of spiritual energy. Wang Zhenhuan felt as if his arm was about to swell. He clenched his teeth and remained silent.
Xuan Yangzi continued, "A meridian often has many acupoints, and these acupoints cannot all be opened at once. If it is done in stages, it will often take a lot of time."
Therefore, most practitioners have not fully opened all twelve regular meridians and eight extraordinary meridians. They typically only open a few key meridians to ensure the smooth flow of spiritual energy.
"Sir, are there no other Purple Qi True Persons like yourself who haven't fully broken through?" Wang Huanzhen asked, his voice trembling slightly. The feeling of breaking through spiritual energy barriers was a mix of a slight tingling, a touch of coolness and soreness, and a dash of pain.
"Indeed, among these meridians, the most important are the Ren and Du meridians, which connect the front and back. The Ren and Du meridians are also known as the Small Heavenly Circuit. Once they are opened, spiritual energy can reach the limbs."
This is the Great Circulation that follows. This is the essence of cultivating and refining Qi; you must remember it well. What I am opening for you now is the Ren and Du meridians,” Xuan Yangzi explained.
Wang Zhenhuan was already drenched in sweat, the waves of pain and numbness making him suffer unbearably. This was only the opening of his meridians; if it were the excruciating pain of being torn apart by five horses during a full-body infusion, wouldn't it have been excruciating enough to kill someone?
He endured the pain, keeping his mind clear. He memorized every word Xuan Yangzi said. Just as he was silently suffering, a sudden, sharp pain shot through his lower abdomen.
The pain made him curl up in agony. The excruciating pain came and went quickly. Before he could even groan, the agony vanished, replaced by a feeling of refreshment.
Wang Zhenhuan slowly straightened his body, just as he was about to carefully sense the energy, when Xuan Yangzi spoke up: "I have just opened up your dantian and qi sea, so you can meditate and gather qi from now on."
Upon hearing Xuan Yangzi's words, Wang Zhenhuan opened his eyes in disbelief, grasped his hand, and asked in a trembling voice, "Sir...I...I...I can practice Qi cultivation from now on?"
"Indeed, the Dantian and Qi Sea are where the human body stores spiritual energy. After the Qi Sea is opened, the spiritual energy of heaven and earth absorbed into the body will naturally enter the Qi Sea. This acupoint is the source of cultivation," Xuan Yangzi continued with a smile.
"Next, I will teach you the method of refining qi recorded in the 'True Scripture of Primordial Dao Qi.' Do not get excited, keep your mind calm, carefully perceive, and memorize the acupoints."
This method also involves the microcosmic orbit of the Ren and Du meridians, with seven main acupoints. Spiritual energy originates from the Qihai point and ascends to the Tanzhong point. From the Tanzhong point, it flows directly to the Baihui point at the top of the head.
The Baihui point descends to the Yuzhen point on the back, then runs along the spine down to the Dazhui point. From the Dazhui point, it passes through the Mingmen point and the Huiyin point, returning to the Dantian (lower abdomen). This completes a small circulation.
Every time Xuan Yangzi mentioned an acupoint, Wang Zhenhuan would feel a sharp pain. He lay on the bed, wincing in pain and twisting his body incessantly. Meanwhile, he memorized the acupoints in his mind.
"These seven major acupoints are the main acupoints of the Ren and Du meridians. As long as you remember their locations, you will not make mistakes in your Qi cultivation. You don't need to worry about the other minor acupoints. Once the major acupoints are opened, they will naturally be connected as a whole."
After Xuan Yangzi finished speaking, he released his grip. Wang Zhenhuan lay on the bed, opened his eyes, and gasped for breath. His face was pale, and his entire body was soaked in sweat.
The places where Xuan Yangzi's spiritual energy passed through his body felt as if they had been branded with a red-hot iron. He opened his eyes wide, looked at the wooden beams on the roof, and suddenly grinned and laughed loudly. As he laughed, tears streamed down his face.
"Ah...haha...hahaha, thank you for your guidance, sir. I have wasted my life, but I have finally achieved my goal. Now that spiritual energy has entered my body, I feel that my life has not been in vain."
As the saying goes, "The arrival of this world awakens one from a fleeting dream, and the clear sounds fill the celestial realm day and night..."
