I revived the Demonic Sect in North America

Chapter 109 Resulting in a Death

When Li Ang returned home, it was already completely dark.

Fiona sat on the faded old sofa in the living room, mending Li Ang's shirt under the dim light.

When she saw Li Ang return, a gentle smile appeared on her face.

He asked with concern:

"I got home a little late today. Are you hungry? There's some pizza in the fridge."

Li Ang called out to her:

"Wait a minute, sis."

He took the envelope containing cash out of his backpack and then pulled out another folded document from his pocket.

This document is the drug trial contract signed between Li Ang and Vertex Biotechnology Company.

However, in the written contract, Li Ang specifically asked Bob to write his job title as a health product salesman.

The subsidy was also changed to three thousand dollars a month.

Bob didn't understand why Li Ang was doing this at first.

Li Ang said he did it to reassure his family.

Bob readily agreed.

Li Ang handed the envelope and documents to Fiona.

Fiona took the envelope with a puzzled look, opened it, and when she saw the thick wad of bright green banknotes inside, her eyes widened in surprise. She exclaimed:

"Li Ang! This... so much money? Where did it come from?"

Li Ang unfolded the contract again and handed it to Fiona, saying:

"Don't worry, sis, look at this."

Fiona quickly scanned the contract, her surprise gradually turning into a hint of doubt as she said:

"Vertex Biotech... I know that company. They have a factory in the North District that produces a lot of vitamins and protein powder. But... three thousand US dollars a month? Li Ang, that's more than many full-time jobs pay! You're just a student..."

Li Ang shrugged and said:

"Hey sis, what do you mean by that? Are you looking down on your brother?"

Fiona blushed immediately and said:

"No... I just..."

"It's okay, sis, I was just kidding. Actually, this job isn't easy. It involves research, visits, and sales. If you don't meet your targets, you might be let go, so the pay is higher. And this is just the first month's probationary salary; if the sales are good, there might be bonuses later."

Fiona carefully examined the seal and terms of the contract again.

Although she didn't understand many legal details, the documents looked very formal and had all the necessary seals.

She looked up at Li Ang, her eyes still filled with worry, and said:

"Is it really...safe? I mean, selling this stuff..."

Li Ang tried his best to make his tone sound believable:

"It's very safe, sis. It's just legal vitamins, protein powder, sports drinks, the kind you can buy at the supermarket. They just need a young person to run errands, hand out flyers, and collect user feedback."

As he spoke, he picked up the stack of money again and stuffed it into Fiona's hand, saying:

"Take this money first. You're the one in our family who needs the most care. Don't be stingy if you need anything."

"Li Ang..."

Fiona was suddenly moved, her voice choked with emotion, and her eyes reddened slightly.

Her younger brother has really grown up and is now sharing her burdens and even supporting her.

"Hey, sis, don't do that."

When Li Ang saw the tears glistening in Fiona's eyes, a pang of sadness welled up in his heart.

But he tried to make his tone sound more relaxed.

"You've really suffered a lot in the past, from now on I'll be your support. We'll shoulder the burdens at home together."

These words completely shattered Fiona's psychological defenses.

Tears finally broke free and slid down her pale yet still beautiful cheeks.

But she didn't cry out; she just bit her lower lip tightly, letting the tears flow silently.

Then he nodded vigorously.

She stopped asking Li Ang about his work.

At that moment, she chose to believe her younger brother.

Fiona carefully put away the stack of money, then folded the contract neatly and placed it together with her important documents.

After doing all this, she turned around and hugged Li Ang tightly.

She buried her face in Li Ang's young but already broad shoulder, her voice muffled as it came from his shoulder:

"Thank you... thank you, Li Ang. My dear little brother... oh, you've really grown up."

After the hug ended, Fiona wiped away her tears.

Although there were still tear stains on her face, she had already shown a relieved smile.

Taking the opportunity, Li Ang added:

"Sister, there's something else I need to tell you."

"What is it?"

"I passed the auditions today and joined the school's rugby team."

Fiona's mouth opened slightly, and she couldn't help but exclaim in surprise:

"The rugby team? Li Ang, weren't you already eliminated from the school team...?"

Li Ang smiled and said:

"I'm just a substitute on the second team. I just participate in training, do some physical labor, help with equipment and stuff. It's not very strenuous; I mainly want to get some exercise and make some new friends. Bruce's on the team too, he'll take care of me."

Hearing that it was only the second team, and with Bruce, her good brother whom she had watched grow up, looking out for her, Fiona breathed a slight sigh of relief.

But he still frowned and said:

"That must be tiring, right? And won't the training affect your studies, since you also have a part-time job..."

Li Ang said in a relaxed tone:

"No, training is in the mornings and after school, while promotional work is done in my spare time after class, so it won't conflict. Studying has always been one of my strengths, I'll keep up, don't worry, sis."

Looking at her brother's calm and determined face, Fiona felt that there was really no need to worry too much about a well-behaved child like Li Ang.

But she still worriedly added:

"You must be careful, don't overwork yourself, your health is the most important thing. Also, stay away from those shady people."

"I know. Oh, by the way, sis, Bruce invited me to his place for dinner tonight. I might be back late, or I might just stay at his place to save myself the trouble of traveling back and forth."

Fiona nodded, without doubt:

"Oh, I see... Okay, don't stay out too late, be careful. Say hello to Bruce and his mom for me."

After saying goodbye to Fiona and leaving the house, Li Ang immediately called Bruce.

The phone rang twice before being answered, with Bruce's somewhat muffled voice coming through, accompanied by game sound effects in the background.

"Hey, Li Ang, what's up?"

"Listen, Bruce."

Li Ang lowered his voice and spoke quickly:

"Do me a favor. I told my sister I'm having dinner at your place tonight and might stay overnight. If she calls or texts you, please cover for me by saying I'm here, but I'm probably asleep or taking a shower."

There was a two-second silence on the other end of the phone, followed by a strange yell from Bruce:

"Oh! Damn it! Are you out fooling around again? Which girl are you with today, that Chinese girl who's always clinging to you?!"

Li Ang could picture Bruce's frantic yet envious expression on the other end of the phone.

"Stop talking nonsense, are you going to help or not?"

"Help! Of course I'll help! You're my brother, after all!"

Bruce's voice was filled with intense envy, jealousy, and resentment:

"But Li Ang, I curse you! I curse you to kill someone tonight... Never mind, I wish you safety, you lucky bastard. Remember not to be unable to get up for practice tomorrow, or Coach Duke will tear you apart."

"Of course, I'll be on time for training. You really went to a lot of trouble to get this opportunity for me, thanks, bro. I'll treat you to a Coke later."

"Then I'll have a one-liter bottle!"
