I revived the Demonic Sect in North America
Chapter 153 Post-Match Aftermath
Chapter 153 Post-Match Aftermath
The River Valley College team bus drove away from Lincoln College Stadium in the night.
The wheels rolled over the road, leaving the yellow sea and deafening shouts far behind.
The interior of the car was a completely different world, a confined space ignited by adrenaline.
The noise was almost enough to lift the roof off the car, and the air was filled with an almost wild excitement.
I don't know who got a huge bucket of chilled beer from somewhere.
The team members assured Coach Duke that it was just non-alcoholic beverages.
A red plastic cup was passed between the seats, and each time it passed a hand, someone would tilt their head back and gulp it down.
Foam dripped down the young man's chin, landing on his filthy jersey, triggering even louder screams and laughter.
"Pass it on! It's my turn!"
'
Hey! Leave some for Bruce! That old guy's shoulders are about to fall off!
6
Bruce grinned and retorted, "Screw you! I can take you down with this hand too!"
The team members raised their glasses and shouted, "To Li Ang! To our speed runner!"
'
More people joined in the chant: "Homage to the reversal! Homage to those damn lumberjacks!"
'
"Salute to the Cavaliers—Awooo!"
The team members went crazy, pounding their fists on the seats and the interior walls of the carriage.
Towels, wristbands, and even smelly athletic socks were flying around in the air.
Coach Duke sat in the front seat behind the driver, arms crossed, looking out the window at the streetlights rushing by.
He didn't turn around and yell at me to be quiet as usual, nor did he stop the barrel of beer from being passed around.
He just watched silently, the tight lines at the corners of his mouth relaxing for once.
It has a subtle, almost imperceptible curve.
Li Ang sat by the window, his helmet resting on his knees, his fingers unconsciously tracing the scratches on the edge of his mask.
His expressionless profile was reflected in the car window, along with the blurry streaks of light flowing outside.
A subtle, continuous tremor emanated from deep within my body—a signal from my muscles and nerve endings after the intense struggle and adrenaline rush subsided, mixed with a profound weariness.
At this moment, all he wanted to do was hurry home and train with Officer Karen.
Bruce slumped in the seat next to him, an ice pack wrapped in a plastic bag on his left shoulder.
He grimaced and gasped for breath, but his smile stretched almost to his ears, never fading from the final whistle.
He used his uninjured right arm to ram Li Ang's arm hard.
"Hey, my good brother, ever since the first day I entered the academy, no, ever since the first time I put on this blue uniform, I've been dreaming of fighting alongside you again."
He paused, looked at Li Ang, and said, "Today, this dream has fucking come true."
Li Ang's gaze shifted from the window to Bruce's bandaged shoulder with an ice pack, then moved to his face, which was flushed with excitement and pain.
"Yes, it's been a long time."
Bruce burst into even louder laughter upon hearing this, then hissed as he aggravated his injury, his face contorting in pain. "Damn, it hurts like hell—but it was fucking worth it! Every second was worth it! Li Ang, honestly, you're still the same as before, able to carry everyone when it counts. You're a damn great captain."
Li Ang shook his head slightly, his tone flat, as if stating a simple fact: "It's everyone's credit. Nobody failed. I just did what I was supposed to do."
;
Bruce rolled his eyes dramatically and said, "Come on! Stop with the team-first clichés! Listen, we all know what happened. You're a fucking monster, doing the work of three teams all by yourself, and doing it so well it's almost unbelievable!"
.
He nudged Li Ang, his eyes almost overflowing with warmth, and said, "He's just a super cool monster, a monster from our family."
6
Li Ang did not refute further.
The corner of his mouth twitched slightly, which could be considered an admission.
After driving for a while, the beer barrels were empty, the singing turned into intermittent humming, the sound of pounding on the seats became less frequent, and gradually, yawns and snores began to rise and fall.
Looking out the window at the convenience store and gas station signs, Li Ang took out his phone and dialed his sister Fiona's number.
The call was answered almost immediately.
"Li Ang? Are you alright? How did the match go? Did we win?"
"We won."
"Oh my god! That's great! I knew it! I knew you could do it!"
Fiona's voice rose instantly, filled with undisguised joy and pride.
"Li Ang, you're amazing! Are you injured? Are you tired?"
"I'm fine, sis. I'm not hurt at all, just a little tired."
Li Ang paused for a moment, then got to the point: "By the way, I'm not going home to sleep tonight. I'm going to Bruce's. There are some details from the game that we need to review, and we also need to discuss tactics next week. It might go on very late, so I'll just sleep at his place."
"7
"To Bruce's house?"
Fiona's tone held a hint of surprise, but more understanding: "Oh, well—you guys really need to do a good review. But don't talk too late, you need to rest. How was Bruce's performance today?"
"He's great. We won today thanks to our teamwork."
As Li Ang spoke, he handed his phone to Bruce, who was listening intently beside him, and mouthed, "Speak."
Bruce grinned, took the phone, and said casually, "Hey Fiona! It's me, Bruce! Don't worry, Li Ang is perfectly safe with me! We'll just watch some replays and talk about tactics; I'll make sure he doesn't stay up all night!"
Fiona on the other end of the phone seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, and her voice softened: "Okay, Bruce, thank you for your help. Please also give my regards to your mother and thank her for taking care of you all this time."
"No problem! Leave it to me! Shall we hang up now? We still need to figure out that damn defensive formation of the lumberjack team!"
""
"Okay, okay, you guys get back to work. Li Ang, remember to get some rest!"
"Okay, sis. You should get some rest too."
Li Ang took back his phone, responded, and hung up.
Bruce nudged Li Ang on the shoulder and winked, saying, "Watch some footage, talk about tactics? Hmm? Li Ang, you're up to no good. Tell me the truth, what are you up to this late at night?"
Li Ang glanced at him, a smile curving his lips.
"Bruce, I'm eighteen years old."
"Hey! I knew it!"
Bruce slapped his thigh, pulling on his injury and wincing in pain. "Damn! Bro! What's this—a post-game celebration? Damn it, I want that kind of celebration too!"
His tone was filled with undisguised envy, jealousy, and resentment, but it was more like the banter between buddies.
The school bus quickly arrived at the North Campus.
"Coach, I'm getting off here." Li Ang walked to the front of the carriage.
Coach Duke looked away from the window, glanced at him, then at the apartment buildings in front of him. He didn't ask anything, but simply nodded to the driver.
The car door opened with a hiss.
"Training will proceed as scheduled tomorrow. Don't be late. Even though we won, we still need to practice."
"clear."
Li Ang jumped out of the car. A cool night breeze blew, giving him a slight boost of energy.
The door closed behind him, and the school bus continued into the night.
He checked the direction, slung his bag over his shoulder, and strode towards one of the brownish-red apartment buildings.
He had already texted Karen in the car to say he would come over to keep her company tonight.
The motion-sensor lights in the hallway turned on with the sound of his footsteps.
Li Ang went up to the third floor with ease. Karen's door was ajar, with a crack in it.
Li Ang gently pushed open the door, stepped inside, and silently closed it behind him.
The living room was empty, with only a floor lamp on, casting a soft, dim light.
Li Ang entered the kitchen with practiced ease.
Karen stood in front of the kitchen counter with her back to the door.
She was only wearing a close-fitting white cotton tank top.
The soft fabric accentuates the smooth yet firm lines of the shoulders and back, highlighting a slender waist.
She was only wearing a pair of black lace panties on her lower body.
The edges are decorated with delicate openwork patterns, tightly wrapping around the pert buttocks.
Her long, straight legs were dazzlingly white in the dim light.
She was barefoot on the wooden floor, seemingly having just finished drinking water, and was holding a glass in her hand, about to put it down.
She paused for a moment upon hearing the very faint footsteps.
Place the glass gently on the table, making a soft "tap" sound.
Li Ang walked up behind her and greedily inhaled Karen's cool yet alluring scent.
Without saying a word, he simply reached out and wrapped his arms around her slender yet supple and strong waist from behind.
Karen's body trembled almost imperceptibly, but she did not flinch or resist.
"Mmm————" A very soft groan escaped from Karen's throat.
Her straight back softened.
Li Ang tightened his arms around her waist, pulling her closer to him.
This allows her to clearly feel the changes in her body.
"Go—go inside—" Karen's voice was broken and gasped for breath.
"No, it's right here!"
Li Ang pulled her to start practicing on the spot.
The next morning, Li Ang, having practiced all night, arrived at the River Valley Academy early, full of energy, to prepare for training.
Even before getting close, I noticed the differences in the school.
The first thing that catches the eye is the huge banner hanging across the road above the school gate.
Blue background, white lettering, exceptionally eye-catching, swaying slightly in the morning breeze: "Welcome home, hero! A tribute to our speed runner, number 21, Li Ang."
Below the banner is a dark blue silhouette of player number 21, sprinting with the ball.
Full of momentum.
Li Ang stopped in his tracks, raising an eyebrow under the brim of his baseball cap.
This is way too extravagant.
He quickened his pace and crossed the school gate.
Stepping inside the teaching building, the changes are even more pervasive.
The corridor walls, which were originally covered with various club recruitment posters, dance flyers, academic competition notices, and photos of outstanding graduates from previous years, are now almost entirely occupied by pictures on the same theme.
That's a photo of Li Ang.
As he received the ball, turned, and started his run, his deep blue figure flashed like a sharp blade being drawn from its sheath.
His powerful tackles on the sideline sealed the moment when the near-goal forward headed the ball out of bounds.
There's a picture of him being tossed into the air by Bruce and the others, his arms outstretched.
There was even a close-up photo after the game.
Li Ang calmly raised his hand, lightly tapping his left chest where his heart was, his eyes coldly fixed on the stands.
Each photo was captioned with the slogan written in bold black marker: "Unstoppable!"
'
"The night a legend is born!"
""
The Light of the Valley!
'
The last close-up photo is captioned: "A Calm Heart".
The students gathered in small groups in front of the photos, pointing and discussing excitedly, their voices buzzing with exclamations of surprise.
A tall, sharp-eyed Black man spotted Li Ang immediately.
His eyes lit up instantly, and he strode over, slapping Li Ang hard on the back with his large, fan-like hand: "Li Ang! Hey! Legend! Last night was fucking awesome! My dad and I were in the stands, and it was so satisfying to watch!"
At the start of the third quarter, those Lincoln Town bastards were yelling and howling, but what happened next? Ha! They didn't dare utter a single word! You should really see how they turned on you, from being arrogant to falling silent, it was more exciting than watching a movie!
.
Li Ang steadied himself, nodded at the overwhelming enthusiasm, and said, "Thank you."
He tried to continue moving towards his locker.
But this corridor, which usually only takes a few minutes to walk through, became unusually long and difficult today.
Almost every two or three steps, someone would rush out from the side or squeeze through the crowd to block his way.
A boy wearing thick glasses and with a few pimples on his cheeks suddenly raised his phone.
Before Li Ang could even see his face clearly, the shutter clicked.
The boy stared at his phone screen, his cheeks flushed with excitement, and ran off shouting, "I got it! I got it! A photo with Li Ang!"
'
A girl with freckles on her face and a ponytail squeezed through the crowd, blushing.
He was clutching a blue marker tightly in his hand.
His eyes shone brightly, and his voice trembled slightly with nervousness as he said, "Could you sign my autograph? Just here, on this T-shirt!"
66
She pointed to her white T-shirt with the River Valley College logo printed on her chest.
Li Ang took the pen and quickly signed his name next to the school badge.
The girl hugged the hem of the T-shirt tightly, as if she were holding some precious treasure, and thanked him repeatedly, her eyes curving into crescents.
A disheveled boy wearing a Madden NFL game-themed T-shirt rushed over, waving his arms.
Spit practically flew onto Li Ang's face: "Dude! Hey! Li Ang! That back pass last night! My God! I set all the running back attributes—speed, strength, agility, catching, even luck—to 99 in the game, and I still couldn't achieve that effect! The way you knocked that ranged guard aside at the end was practically against the laws of physics! Do you usually play Madden? What settings do you use?"
'
Another boy, carrying a voice recorder and notebook, squeezed in and said rapidly, "Li Ang! I'm Jason from the school newspaper! Can we schedule a short interview? Just five minutes, no, three minutes! Talk about how you felt last night, or the origin of that nickname 'Light Speed Runner'? Everyone wants to know!"
6
Several students who looked like bookworms even pushed and shoved their way closer.
One of them adjusted his glasses and said earnestly, "Li Ang, we're from the physics study group. We're very interested in the acceleration and force analysis of your several changes of direction during the competition. We're having a seminar this weekend; would you be free to attend? We can use a high-speed camera to record and replay the footage for model analysis—"
Li Ang was enveloped by this overwhelming enthusiasm.
Sign your name, nod, and respond with the briefest words like "thank you," "it's okay," or "you flatter me," and "we'll talk about it next time," trying your best not to seem too indifferent or rude as you slowly move towards the locker at the end of the corridor.
The feeling of being the center of attention and being watched like a rare animal made him feel more uncomfortable than playing basketball amidst the roars of tens of thousands of people last night.
