I revived the Demonic Sect in North America

Chapter 20 Departure from the Rat Hole

Justin, a tall, white man, already disliked Li Ang, and scoffed upon hearing this:

"Ha! You Chinese kid, are you kidding me? A field study on homeless people will get you into Harvard? Do you think admissions officers are idiots? Who cares about this kind of slum day trip? Guys, don't listen to his nonsense!"

Justin originally thought that by starting the group first, he would definitely get a lot of responses.

Unexpectedly, after making his sarcastic remarks, he didn't make a sound.

He turned his head and saw that everyone's faces showed obvious interest.

Justin was shocked and could only look to Jennifer, the Asian girl who had also spoken out against him, for help.

Jennifer, the Asian girl, pushed up her glasses, not looking at Justin, but instead turning to Li Ang, and calmly asked:

"Your name is Li Ang, right? Li Ang, are you sure this description will make a good impression on the interviewer in your application materials, instead of making them think we're too reckless?"

Li Ang keenly caught the signal that Jennifer's attitude was softening, and smiled slightly:

"Going to a dangerous place without any preparation is certainly reckless and foolish. But if we thoroughly assess the risks of the mouse hole, establish strict safety guidelines beforehand, and explore it in depth under the guidance of teamwork and clear objectives, that's called being a courageous pioneer!"

Jennifer nodded and remained silent.

At this moment, a girl with freckles on her face couldn't help but whisper to a boy wearing Yeezy shoes next to her:

"He's right... Those people at Trinity High School are doing those cool-sounding projects. If we're just handing out flyers and giving presentations, we really can't compete with them."

The coconut-loving boy licked his lips, his eyes darting between Li Ang and the entrance to the rat hole across the street.

"That's true, and with so many of us together, it's just going into an underpass, it shouldn't be that dangerous, right?"

Upon hearing this, Justin's face darkened even more.

He stubbornly made a final struggle:

"Hey! Are you guys crazy? There's NYPD cordon tape over there! You don't even know what's going on in there? Are you willing to risk your lives for college admissions?"

Li Ang scoffed and retorted:

"It is because the unknown that we need to explore. It is because of the danger that the value of exploration is all the more apparent, isn't it, Justin? You can't stop your friends from pursuing progress just because of your own cowardice and fear, can you?"

Justin's face flushed red, and he was about to continue his rebuttal when Li Ang waved his hand to interrupt him, saying in an unquestionable tone:

"Stop hesitating, let's vote! Everyone, vote by secret ballot and decide through a democratic process. Will you stay here, continue giving speeches and playing house, or will you bravely take a step forward and give yourself a chance to write a wonderful story?"

Justin exclaimed in surprise:

"vote?"

Emily, who had been silent until now, decisively joined the group, demonstrating the leadership of the student council president:

"Li Ang is right, let's vote, the minority should obey the majority!"

No one objected.

Emily nodded and said:

"Okay, since no one objects, let's do it this way."

Emily immediately tore off a dozen small pieces of paper from the distributed promotional posters and distributed autographed markers to everyone.

The group of high school students from Tribec looked at each other and quickly lowered their heads to write down their opinions.

Justin grabbed the pen, drew a big "X" on the paper, crumpled it up, and handed it to Emily.

Emily quickly collected all the voting results.

She unfolded the slips of paper one by one and read them aloud to everyone:

"Yes."

"Yes."

"Yes."

"No."

"Yes."

"Yes."

……

Aside from Justin's dissenting vote, Li Ang's plan to visit the rat people at night was approved unanimously.

Justin's face went from red to white, then from white to green, and he felt like a clown.

He glared at his companions who had just been on his side, but now looked at them as if they were a group of traitors.

Everyone avoided his gaze, somewhat embarrassed.

Emily clapped her hands and gathered everyone together, saying:

"Since everyone agrees, let's go into the rat hole together to conduct an investigation. But everyone must remember, safety is paramount. Li Ang, you proposed this plan; do you have any suggestions for everyone?"

Li Ang nodded and said solemnly to everyone:

"First, once inside, don't talk nonsense, don't make a fuss, and don't take photos, especially not photos of people's faces. Second, stay with the group, don't get separated from others, and don't touch anything. Third, don't approach homeless people. If someone tries to talk to you, ignore them and let me handle the situation, understand?"

Justin pursed his lips and ignored him.

Instead, a few scattered "I understand" sounds rang out from within the group.

"Okay, let's go, everyone stay close."

Li Ang and Emily walked side by side at the front.

The group crossed Jerome Avenue and arrived at the archway at the entrance to the Mouse Hole.

As soon as you get close, an indescribable odor suddenly bursts out.

The smell is based on the stench of urine, mixed with the fishy smell of fresh feces, the sour smell of rotting food, the sweet smell of cannabis leaves, and the acrid smell of burning rubber.

After mixing and settling inside the archway of the rat hole, it created a truly pungent stench.

Emily, who was walking at the front alongside Li Ang, had just taken a breath when her face turned pale instantly.

She covered her mouth and gagged, and tears immediately welled up in her eyes.

The students following behind made all sorts of strange noises, creating complete chaos.

Justin, walking at the back of the group, frantically slapped his face with his hand and complained loudly:

"Ugh, shit! What the hell is this smell? Is this place even fit for a human? I'm going to throw up!"

Even Li Ang, who grew up in the South Bronx, a notorious slum in the United States, couldn't help but cover his mouth and nose tightly with his hands, his face scrunched up.

This smell is so strong, it's terrifying.

It was more intense than the garbage-filled alley in front of Li Ang's house, more intense than the dirtiest boys' restroom in the school, and more intense than any shelter he had ever been to.

Li Ang was initially worried that these high-achieving students from Tribeck would soon back down.

Surprisingly, although the students all looked terrible, some dry heaving and others covering their noses, they all managed to suppress their nausea and follow the group in an orderly manner.

Even the most troublesome Justin, despite his complaints and curses, never considered abandoning his companions and running away alone.

Even Emily, who was in charge, took the initiative to say to Li Ang:

"Oh, Li Ang, now I believe your claim that the investigation report is truly eye-opening. I can't imagine that anyone could live in such an environment for so long. It completely exceeds my previous understanding; my previous knowledge was so superficial and arrogant. Li Ang, it's all thanks to you!"

Li Ang was taken aback by what he heard, and his gaze swept over Emily's classmates behind her.

No one showed any sign of backing down; their eyes were filled with a desire for extracurricular credits.

Li Ang's lips curled slightly. So this is the elite from the wealthy district? Interesting.
