I revived the Demonic Sect in North America
Chapter 35 Let's Make Friends
Li Ang was secretly delighted, but maintained a calm expression on his face and said:
"So, what price can you offer?"
The Indian girl quickly did some mental calculations and promptly quoted a price:
"The current international gold price for recycling is $1415 per ounce. Your gold weighs 1.2 ounces, which, based on the raw material price, is worth over $1700. But..."
She paused, then gave a standard businesswoman's smile:
"However, since you do not have proof of purchase and cannot prove the legal origin of the gold, if we were to acquire it, we would need to falsify the purchase tax documents before we can resell it. This would expose our store to certain risks, and therefore we would need to charge an additional 20% service fee."
"Twenty percent is too high."
Li Ang shook his head on the spot and said:
"Don't try to fool me. Although I'm a student, I work part-time as a tax accountant at a bar. Madam, what you just called falsifying purchase tax documents is nothing more than spending ten dollars to buy a blank receipt book from the corner print shop, then grabbing a pen and filling in a number yourself."
As the saying goes, a true expert's skill is immediately apparent upon their first move.
When the Indian girl heard Li Ang point out the key to this, her face immediately fell.
She forced a smile, somewhat incredulous:
"Sir, you're joking. Besides tax costs, we also have to bear risks, and then there are the operating costs of labor..."
"Haven't I made myself clear enough, ma'am? Stop spouting nonsense about tax costs and labor costs."
Li Ang interrupted the Indian girl directly, stating in a calm tone:
"Under federal tax law, profits from precious metal trading only need to be reported to the IRS if they exceed $600. Clearly, the profit from our transaction is far below that amount. The risk you're referring to is simply that if the state IRS conducts a random audit, you'll have to explain an unrecorded cash expenditure."
The Indian girl gave a wry smile, finally realizing that Li Ang was indeed an expert, so she stopped hiding her true intentions and laid her cards on the table:
"Sir, I now have to believe that you are a part-time tax accountant. In that case, why don't you just give me a fee suggestion? I believe that with your professionalism, you can definitely give me a figure that satisfies both of us."
Without hesitation, Li Ang extended his right hand, spread his five fingers, and waved it in front of the Indian girl.
The Indian girl raised an eyebrow and smiled wryly:
"Fifteen percent? Sir, that's far too low a rate..."
Li Ang shook his head and calmly said:
Five percent.
"Five percent?!"
The Indian girl immediately screamed:
"Absolutely not, sir!"
Li Ang remained unmoved and chuckled:
"Since you have the connections to open a shop in Tribeca, where land is incredibly expensive, covering this cash expenditure is a piece of cake with your monthly revenue. The 5% service fee is more than enough to cover the labor cost of you spending five minutes filling out the order."
The Indian girl opened her mouth, as if she was about to say something, but after thinking for a moment, she wisely closed her mouth again.
He then rubbed his temples, looking troubled, and said:
"Sir, is eight percent okay? We're a small shop, we really don't have as much money as you think. You know, Tribeca is a very expensive place, and we still have to pay rent, insurance, utilities..."
"Five percent!"
Li Ang persisted relentlessly, maintaining a very firm stance:
"You saw the purity of this stuff yourself. Gold of this purity has a certain collectible value. You'd be lucky to get it back at the original price. The only reason I'm willing to pay a 5% service fee is because of America's wicked tipping system."
Seeing that the Indian girl was still hesitating, Li Ang slammed his hand on the counter and said angrily:
"Hey ma'am, even if we only consider the most basic $1700, the 5% commission is $85. With just a few words, you can earn that much your lower-caste Indian compatriots couldn't earn in a week!"
Li Ang grew increasingly angry as he spoke, and made a gesture as if to take the gold back:
"If it were me, I wouldn't hesitate like you. Listen, opportunities are fleeting. Since you're not willing to earn this money, I'll just have to go and give it to the next gold shop."
"Wait! Wait! Sir, five percent! Deal!"
The Indian girl practically lunged at Li Ang and grabbed his wrist.
Li Ang smiled and took a step back.
The Indian girl missed her target and was slightly taken aback.
She looked at Li Ang smiling and realized that Li Ang hadn't really been angry and wanted to leave.
Instead, they were just putting on an act and pretending to haggle.
The Indian girl sighed, her shoulders slumped, and she gave a helpless, bitter smile:
"You win, sir. You know what? I've been an apprentice at a pawnshop in Mumbai since I was ten, and I've been in this business for fifteen years. I've seen countless customers, but you're the most special one. Oh my god, your bargaining skills are exactly like my boss's, even though you look like an innocent-looking Chinese high school student!"
Li Ang shrugged calmly and smiled slightly:
"I'll take this as a compliment from you."
"Of course, this is entirely a compliment, sir. I even think you're much more difficult to deal with than my boss! Of course, I don't mean to belittle my boss! So, sir, let's stick to the previously agreed-upon buyback price of $1700, plus an extra 5% service fee of $85, for a total of $1615. Do you have any objections?"
Li Ang nodded, satisfied.
"No problem, but I need you to give me five large hundred-dollar bills, and I'll pay the rest with smaller denomination bills."
"Okay, no problem, please wait a moment, sir."
The Indian girl turned and went into a small cubicle behind the counter.
Standing outside the counter, Li Ang could clearly hear the sound of the safe's combination dial turning inside.
Then came the soft sound of a lock being opened and a metal door opening.
Soon, the Indian girl came out with a handbag, placed it on the counter, and opened it to reveal a neatly arranged pile of cash inside.
She first pointed out five hundred-dollar bills and pushed them over:
"This is five hundred."
Then he pulled out two bundles of twenty-dollar bills and said:
"These two bundles are all in twenty-dollar bills, five hundred dollars per bundle, and one thousand dollars in total."
Finally, the Indian girl piled up all the remaining loose banknotes into a stack:
"This is all change, a total of $115, for your convenience when you need change. These bills total $1,615. Would you like me to count them again, or would you like to handle them yourself?"
Li Ang nodded in satisfaction, very pleased with the Indian girl's professionalism and efficiency.
He swept five hundred-dollar bills and two bundles of twenty-dollar bills into his briefcase and zipped it up.
He then pushed the last stack of loose change directly in front of the Indian girl.
Li Ang smiled faintly at the Indian girl, who looked completely bewildered:
"This is your service fee."
The Indian girl looked at the stack of money, her Adam's apple bobbing, her fingers unconsciously rubbing together, and she barely managed to resist the temptation, saying:
"Hey sir... the service fee we agreed on has already been deducted, and the rate we agreed on was five percent, not this much."
Li Ang's lips curled slightly as he calmly said:
"That five percent is the store's service fee, while this is your personal service fee. During the transaction, you didn't shortchange us or hide the purity of the gold. Although we had some disagreements about the service fee, the communication process was quite pleasant."
"You're very professional. I'll probably have some more good stuff to share in the future, and I'll come back to you again. I'd like to be friends with you."
