Li Ang, carrying a pizza and a beer, walked back to the corner booth where he had previously met Emily.

The curtains were half-drawn, and the light was dim.

After Li Ang placed the pizza and beer on the table and sat down, his expression instantly changed from frivolous laughter to seriousness.

He looked around to make sure no one was paying attention to him, then focused his mind and immersed his consciousness into the system space in his mind.

In the system space, there was a wooden box about the size of a shoebox, with a dull luster on its surface.

With a thought, Li Ang conjured up a wooden box on the table.

Li Ang was startled and quickly looked around.

Fortunately, the corner was well hidden, the store was dimly lit, and the boxes were a rustic dark brown, so they didn't attract much attention.

Li Ang reached out and touched the lid of the box.

It feels cool to the touch, like some kind of metal, yet it has a jade-like luster.

Li Ang tried to lift the lid.

The lid of the box opened silently, revealing a black velvet lining.

A doll lay quietly on it.

This doll is no bigger than a mobile phone and is made of some kind of gray cloth with an indistinct texture.

The doll was wearing a simple, old-fashioned Zhongshan suit, crudely made with crooked stitches.

When Li Ang's gaze fell on the doll's face, the hairs on the back of his head stood on end.

The features on that doll's face were so natural, they didn't look like they were sewn on, but rather like they grew out of itself.

Even more bizarrely, the doll looked exactly like Li Ang.

The only difference is that the expression on the doll's face is extremely ferocious and distorted.

His lips were twitched to one side, looking exactly like a sneer.

Although it was an inanimate object, Li Ang felt as if it were staring at him.

His eyes revealed an undisguised, cold malice.

Li Ang was startled and wondered what this thing was when the system notification sounded in his mind again.

[Ding~ Congratulations, host, for opening the treasure chest and obtaining the random item "Substitute Doll (Low-grade Earth Rank)".]

[Item Description: This item originates from the Yinluo Demon Sect. It was created by mixing the remnants of the vengeful spirits of thousands of infants born on a Yin year, Yin month, and Yin day with evil magic. It will automatically bind to the host upon opening the box.]

Once bound, it can absorb one fatal blow on behalf of the host. This includes, but is not limited to, physical death, instant-death spells, and rule-based annihilation. Upon triggering the effect, the doll automatically destroys and dissipates.

[Note: An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.]

Holy crap!

Li Ang gasped in shock. Wasn't this like having a get-out-of-jail-free card on his person?

In this way, people will no longer need to look at traffic lights when crossing the road.

The items from the system treasure chest are terrifying!

Li Ang then looked at the system's description of the treasure chest.

The items that can be obtained from the treasure chest are divided into four levels, from best to worst: "Heaven, Earth, Black, and Yellow".

Each level is further divided into three grades: "upper", "middle" and "lower".

The probability of obtaining an item is highest for the lowest-tier yellow-level item.

It is already quite difficult to obtain a Xuan-level item.

The probability of opening a prefecture-level city property has plummeted.

As for the probability of getting a Heavenly-level item, it's probably better than nothing.

Seeing the chilling smirk on the baby's face, Li Ang forced himself to put it in his pocket, despite feeling uncomfortable.

This doll may look ugly, but it can save your life.

This also gave Li Ang more confidence in the subsequent plan to rescue Karen.

After the doll was taken out, the wooden box on the table silently turned into a wisp of smoke and disappeared into the air.

Not even a speck of dust remained.

Li Ang did not have the habit of wasting food.

He finished the whole box of pizza in a few bites, then downed half a glass of beer to cleanse his throat.

He wiped his mouth, cleaned the table himself, and then stood up and walked towards the bar.

Kevin was leaning against the bar, bragging to a Russian girl with huge headlights about how he once took down a Blood Gang henchman with one hand.

Seeing Li Ang approach, he deliberately shook off the Russian girl, walked over with a smile, and punched Li Ang on the shoulder.

"Hey groom, how's my pizza?"

Li Ang returned the punch to Kevin's shoulder and chuckled:

"It tastes just as good as the high school girl I just got my hands on, it's just a shame the beer is so bad, it's like industrial wastewater mixed with gasoline."

"Ha ha ha ha!"

Kevin wasn't angry at all; instead, he laughed loudly:

"You brat, you should be grateful you have anything to eat and drink!"

Li Ang glanced around; no one was paying attention.

He maintained his facial expression and lowered his voice, saying:

"Kevin, I need your help with something."

Kevin raised an eyebrow, revealing a knowing smirk, and lowered his voice, leaning closer to say:

"Hehe, you little bastard, have you come up with some new idea to try on some girl again? Let me make it clear beforehand, I won't do anything too immoral. I don't want to go against my conscience, buddy."

"Not that one."

Li Ang shook his head and said with a slightly serious expression:

"I'm serious, I'm in trouble and I really need your help."

Kevin was taken aback.

He looked closely into Li Ang's eyes, and the playful smile on his face slowly faded.

Then he put his arm around Li Ang's shoulder and led him to the corner next to the bar.

"Tell me, what do you need?"

Li Ang took a deep breath and slowly uttered a single word:

"gun."

"Fuck you!"

Kevin was so startled he almost jumped up. He couldn't keep his voice down, which immediately made the Russian girl not far away turn her head to look.

Kevin quickly put on a smile and waved to her:

"Hey, Yenata, it's nothing! This brat said he slept naked last night and dreamed about his English teacher. He woke up this morning with his blanket wet. What a useless little chick, hahaha!"

The Russian girl glanced at Li Ang's handsome face with surprise, then gave him a knowing, mischievous smile and deliberately stuck out her long tongue, licking it around her lips.

As soon as she turned around, Kevin grabbed Li Ang by the collar, pulled him in front of him, and said angrily in a suppressed voice:

"What gun do you need? Are you fucking crazy?! It's illegal for minors to own guns, you know that?! Have you gotten into trouble at school again? Who's messing with you? Give me their name and address, and I'll come over and take care of them! I don't need any 'Gripen' guns!"

Kevin's series of heartfelt questions warmed Li Ang's heart.

But he remained calm as he looked at Kevin, shook his head slightly, and said:

"Kevin, you know, ever since I almost beat up a stupid black kid from the next class with Bruce when I first entered junior high, I haven't been bullied by anyone, let alone in a girly place like River Valley High School in the North."

Kevin stared at Li Ang for a few seconds, then slowly released his grip, asking with some confusion:

"What you're saying... is true. With all the wickedness in your head, those rich middle-class kids at River Valley High School are probably like lambs in front of you. It's already a favor that you don't bully them."

He rubbed his face vigorously and said again:

"Then I'm even more confused. With your intelligence, you have countless ways to solve this problem. Why do you have to use a gun? Listen, kid, you're the only person I've ever met who could possibly get out of the South Bronx using only his brain. I really don't want you to go down the wrong path. Even if you don't listen to me, you should at least think about Fiona."
