Whoosh!

A bone-chilling cold shot straight to the top of his head, instantly waking Norn from his unconscious state.

He was doused with ice water and tried to get up in a panic, only to find his hands tied behind his back to a pillar.

Opening his eyes, which were blurred by the icy water, Norn looked around and found himself in a courtroom.

The surrounding stands gradually rose, forming a ring around him, like a giant pit, and he was at the bottom of the pit.

The stands were packed with people, and when they saw Norn wake up, they immediately started hurling insults at him.

Norn's mind wasn't fully clear yet; all he could hear amidst the cacophony of insults were words like "traitor," "beast," and "ungrateful."

Tap! Tap! Tap!

The judge swung his gavel, striking the floor with deafening force, and the audience's angry shouts subsided.

"Holy Emperor Yarrow Bimissa, I beseech you to gaze upon this sinful soul. In your great and profound gaze, all pretense and darkness will be laid bare."

As soon as the judge finished reading, a scraping sound came from above Norn.

At the top of the courtroom, a huge stone slab was slowly moved aside, revealing a dome made of various colored glass tiles.

The glass pieces were deliberately arranged to resemble eyes, and when illuminated by sunlight, they truly gave the impression of heaven opening its eyes and looking down upon all living beings.

"Sinner Norn Pierre, confess your crimes."

The judge, seated high on the bench, spoke sternly.

"No, what the hell did I do wrong? Are you sure you're not mistaken?" Norn replied.

Seeing that Norn denied the charges, the judge immediately began reading out Norn's crimes:

"The sinner Norn possesses the magic to transfer body parts. Just yesterday, he transferred his arms to the former swordsman team leader, Gikkasen, and together they plotted to murder the king."

Late at night, Gicasson, with the arm given to him by Norn, sneaked into the palace, attempting to assassinate the sleeping king. When discovered by the guards, he went berserk and slaughtered all the soldiers protecting the king. He was subdued in the early morning.

Do you agree with the above?

"I'll admit it! I didn't know he was going to use the arm to kill the king! He told me he wanted to go to a Taoist temple, that's why I lent him the arm! I'm innocent!!"

Norn retorted loudly, only to be met with laughter from the spectators.

His gaze swept across the spectators' seats, when suddenly a fat figure came into his view.

"Duke Gao Ergong! It was he who told me that Gicasen pitied me, that's why..."

"Nonsense!" Gao Ergong, standing in the audience, shrieked. "I could tell you weren't a good person at yesterday's tea party! That's why I left you at my house, planning to send someone to arrest you the next day."

I never imagined you were so cunning and acted so swiftly! You actually conspired with Gicassin to assassinate the emperor! If I had known, I should have poisoned the pastries and killed you, you beast!

One stone stirs up a thousand waves. Gao Ergong's words ignited the anger of all the audience members. For a moment, the courtroom was like a lit powder keg, filled with curses against Norn.

Norn's voice was completely drowned out. Only then did he realize that this was not a normal trial at all, but a denunciation meeting!

Who would build a courtroom like a gladiatorial arena? This design clearly intends to place the person being judged in a position of public condemnation, plunging him into a quagmire of humiliation.

His own defense was meaningless; his guilt was a fact already established before the trial even began, and this trial was merely a formality.

With things having come to this point, Norn could only manage a wry smile.

Using a Taoist temple as an excuse—what a stupid excuse.

Gicasson had long harbored a deep hatred for the king, but he had endured it for many years because he was unable to wield a sword.

If I had known this would happen, I shouldn't have gotten involved in this mess!

Norn lowered his head and silently endured the insults around him.

After the surroundings quieted down a bit, the judge slowly read out his verdict on Norn:

"Now the final verdict on the sinner Norn is read: all his property and status are confiscated, and he is to be imprisoned in Milona Prison and executed at noon tomorrow."

Milenna Prison is located on a cliff in the western corner of the royal capital Baseron, below which lies the desolate sea of rocks.

Norn was brought here after being put in heavy shackles following that unfair trial.

His cell was a dungeon, dark and damp, with a pit in the corner that served as a toilet for prisoners throughout the ages, the old stones inside emitting an indescribable stench.

The jailer threw Norn into his cell, leaving him with a bowl of gruel and some dry bread before closing the door and leaving.

"Is this the last meal?" Norn picked up a bit of the paste with his finger and slurped it in his mouth. It was strangely sweet and greasy with a hint of sourness and stench, not even as good as shit.

The bread was as hard as iron, making it impossible to eat.

At that moment, in the cell opposite Norn's, a dark figure slowly sat up, its gaunt appearance feeling very familiar to Norn.

Damn, isn't that Gicasson?!

"You fucking bastard!" Norn immediately flew into a rage, grabbed a piece of hard bread and threw it at Giacsen.

Gicarson recognized Norn's voice and quickly moved closer to the railing. The flickering torches in the corridor reflected his incredulous expression.

"You bastard, if you want to die, don't drag me down with you! My wonderful life has just begun!"

"sorry……"

Gicarson slumped against the railing, his face wedged between the bars as he slowly slid down. His eyes were closed, and his expression was one of deep pain. Norn's appearance had deeply pierced his conscience.

Norn wasn't buying it. Where were you all this time? Did you only feel guilty after something really happened?

If you were truly ashamed, you shouldn't have lied to me in the first place!

Norn picked up another piece of bread and slammed it into Gicarson's face with all his might.

Gicasson was knocked to the ground, arching his back and sobbing uncontrollably.

Norn didn't stop his verbal sparring, spouting his national treasures while throwing bread at him, and when he ran out of bread, he threw in some mush.

After a while, Gicasson seemed to be on the verge of collapse. He stopped crying, writhed to one side like a worm, and his whole body began to tremble.

"Hey, what the hell are you doing?" Norn thought he was afraid to face him. "Turn around here! I haven't finished cursing you yet!"

But Gicasson still didn't react until Norn found a brighter angle, and he could see what Gicasson was doing, and couldn't help but gasp.

Gicarson lay on the ground, a piece of dry bread that Norn had just thrown to him under his neck.

The bread fell to the ground and shattered into several pieces, one of which had a slightly sharp crack. He was pressing his neck against that piece of bread, wriggling his body and scraping it back and forth, trying to use it to slit his own throat.

Soon a gash was slit in his neck, and bright red blood trickled out, soaking the bread until it was soft, but that was enough.

The blood beneath Gicasson continued to spread, like several crawling red pythons, marking the end of his life.

"Damn, that's ruthless..." Norn's anger vanished upon seeing the state of the dead body, and he helplessly sat back down on the ground.

He can't possibly attack a corpse.

Time flowed slowly like asphalt, and Norn stayed up late into the night in a state between sleep and wakefulness.

The long-silent corridor was suddenly filled with the sound of leather boots. Norn thought he was dreaming until a familiar voice reached his ears:

"Wake up, Norn."
