Chapter 100 Escaping Colin Town
Lynn stared blankly at the crack-like pattern, and he suddenly remembered the eerie female voice Harold had uttered before his death:
"The root cause... I've finally found it..."
"The owner of that voice was undoubtedly an extremely powerful being, and she discovered me when she made contact with me through Harold's power and that black dagger..."
Lynn pondered quickly, "And what that voice is looking for, could it be the 'Grimoire of Origin' in my possession?"
He immediately felt a chill run down his spine and quickly closed the magic book.
But this action was merely self-deception. The grimoire was inextricably linked to him, and that strange pattern must have been formed when he absorbed that black dagger with Fenrir's Eye.
At this point, he had clearly been exposed!
"No, I can't just sit here and wait to die. That being could come after me at any moment..."
Lynn speculated that the mysterious entity must be closely connected with the Corruption Cult, and it might even be the object that those cultists have been performing rituals to pray for!
The existence of such a status is far beyond what he can contend with with the resources he currently possesses.
"I cannot directly seek assistance from the Magic Association or the Seven Towers of Mages; that would subject me to immediate retribution, and my fate would be no better than death on the spot..."
"Right now, I can only try to save myself. My first priority is to escape, but I can't be sure where that gaze came from; I only have a vague feeling..."
"I should flee to the east of the kingdom. That's right, to the capital. There are many powerful people there, making it the best place to hide. I might be much safer there."
"I need to ask Eli for help. She still owes me a lot of favors. Perhaps I can ask her to help me arrange a reliable hiding place in the capital of Assassin."
"Furthermore, I must apologize to her; I may not be able to offer any assistance regarding the selection process..."
With that in mind, he took out the Golden Balance Emblem and prepared to activate the attached third-circle "Short Message" spell to send a message to Eli.
But he stopped quickly.
"No, the 'Short Message Spell' could be monitored or intercepted by higher-level magic, so it's not safe."
"I should go to Roan City to find her in person, and also visit Charlotte, who is a member of the Green Tower and has established a reliable connection with me because of Brown Star and the Magic Network."
"I need to get more information about the Corrupted Cult from her; it will help me understand the enemy..."
Amidst these turbulent thoughts, Lynn waited until dawn.
He couldn't escape under cover of night, as that would put him in danger; staying with these experienced spellcasters was the safer option.
"Mr. Luke, I think I need to go to Roan City. After last night's battle, I feel it's necessary to learn more about the Corruption Order. Coincidentally, I have a friend who is a member of the Green Tower, and I would like to visit her."
Luke nodded, patted him on the shoulder and said, "Thanks to you last night, Lynn, I really didn't expect you to have the strength to go toe-to-toe with a veteran professional."
He gave Lynn a deep look. If Lynn hadn't intervened, Gray would likely have already died at Harold's hands.
"I will report your merits truthfully, which will further reduce your mandatory service quota."
After thanking Luke, Lynn boarded a carriage bound for Roan City with the members of the Roan City Magic Association, while Rumi, looking dejected, prepared to return to Colin Town with Luke.
The atmosphere in the carriage was somewhat awkward. Old Man Barton had injured his arm, and although it had been bandaged, he was quite old and, after a hard battle the night before, was feeling rather listless, so he kept his eyes closed and resting.
The members of the Magic Association of Luoan City did not recognize Lynn and had little interest in this novice mage from the small town.
This was exactly what Lynn wanted. He was currently distraught and desperately wanted to find a way to leave Luo'an City and escape the pursuit of that mysterious being.
Around noon, the carriage stopped.
The Magic Association of Roan City is located at the border between the Upper City and the Lower City. When Lynn was about to get off the bus, the senior mage from the Golden Tower offered to pay the fare for him since he was going to continue to the Upper City.
Lynn naturally wouldn't embarrass him in front of his subordinates.
When the senior mage heard the address Lynn gave, he was taken aback and subconsciously repeated:
"Number 10 Amber Street, isn't that the city lord's residence? Are you sure?"
Seeing Lynn nod, his expression was somewhat strange. At this moment, one of the novice mages accompanying him recognized Lynn.
"This person seems to be the one who danced with Miss Eli Frey at the city lord's banquet last weekend," he whispered to his companion.
But the sound was out of control and happened to fall into the ears of several people.
In an instant, the young people accompanying him all showed expressions of envy.
The senior monk coughed twice, stopped arguing, paid Lynn's fare, and then took his leave.
Originally, Luke was going to escort Gray directly to the Blue Tower in Roan City.
However, due to setbacks along the way, it is necessary to reorganize the report and even reassess the matter before considering the handover of Gray.
Lynn didn't care about any of that now. He sat upright in the back seat of the carriage, his fingers tapping the cushion unconsciously. When he came to his senses, he had already arrived at No. 10 Amber Street.
After getting out of the car, he went straight to the guard at the gate and said that he was there to see Miss Eli Frey.
The guard looked him up and down, but even when Lynn showed him his professional badge from the Magic Association, he remained unmoved.
It was perfectly normal for a young novice mage to come and see Miss Eli Frey.
Everyone in Luo'an City knew that the young lady of the city lord's family was about to have her coming-of-age ceremony, but she was still unmarried. As a result, a group of eligible men flocked to her, almost wearing out the threshold of the city lord's mansion.
In his view, Lynn was just an ordinary person among his many suitors.
"Sir, please leave. I cannot let you in without an appointment!" the guard said righteously.
Lynn frowned. "It seems I'll have to use 'texting magic' to contact Eli..."
He was just about to leave and find a place to rest and cast his spell when he caught a glimpse of a tall, slender, and capable figure stepping down from a carriage by the roadside.
"Lord Lyon!" Lynn called out to him in a deep voice.
Eli's brother, the second son of the count, Leon Frey, still wore a formal suit and had a serious expression.
He stopped and scrutinized Lynn, his expression softening. "You are... Eli's friend, Lynn?"
Lynn smiled and bowed, saying, "Yes, Your Excellency Lyon, I am honored that you remember me."
Leon nodded and asked, "Are you here to see Eli? Unfortunately, she's not home today."
"Eli isn't here?" Lynn tried to remain calm and asked, "Lord Lyon, do you know where she went? I need to speak with her urgently about that fourth teammate."
He casually lied, saying that this was the most reasonable explanation at the moment.
Upon hearing this, Leon slightly raised the corners of his lips, "Then you two are really lucky. She also went to Colin Town because of her fourth teammate and just left not long ago."
"Oh, she went with that Miss Charlotte."
