I am a mage, with an infinite mana bar!

Chapter 12 The Third Member of the Magic Network

"It's so late, Miss Eli, aren't you sleepy?"

"You're not asleep either, are you?" Eli looked around the room. The service at Iris was quite attentive; the room was cleaned very well every day.

She sprawled out on the small brown sofa by the wall, stretched out her legs, and crossed her feet, her pink fluffy slippers clattering on her toes.

"What's wrong? Can't sleep? Want to chat with someone?" Lynn pulled over a chair from the table, flipped it halfway, sat up backwards, and wrapped her arms around the back of the chair.

He found that this noble lady was indeed not arrogant at all, and he naturally grew accustomed to being around her...

"Such terrifying charisma after just one day!" Lynn immediately sobered up, straightened her posture, and focused her attention considerably.

Eli, meanwhile, was struggling to spread his wet, brown hair across the back of the sofa, puffing out his cheeks as he complained, "Why does my hair have to be so long? It takes forever to dry after every shower..."

"Miss Eli, what's the matter?" Lynn asked directly, not believing that she was calling him so late just to complain about her hair.

Eli smiled naturally. "Lynn, you're quite an amazing person. I never imagined you were an apprentice mage like me."

...Do you have to be so direct? It's really hard to pass the entrance exam for becoming a novice mage!

Eli used his fingers like a comb, fiddling with his long, light brown hair that hung to one side, and said somewhat absentmindedly:

"But, as an apprentice mage, why can you use Concentration spells for so long? Our mana pools should be about the same, but I can only use a first-level Heal spell twice at most... That's amazing!"

Her green eyes sparkled, she leaned forward, her fingers unconsciously clenching together. "Can you tell me why? I'm so curious!"

So that's what he came for... Lynn wasn't too surprised. In fact, the reason he had made such a big show of his abilities before was for something like this.

Mages are among the most curious creatures in the world, and the power of magic holds a fatal attraction for them.

If he also has a distinguished status or wealth, then he would be the kind of Magic Network member he's been looking forward to.

Lynn maintained his smile and tentatively asked, "If I told you that I received the legacy of a mysterious mage, would you believe me?"

This is the most convenient explanation for his unusual behavior, since powerful mages in this world are very mysterious and many do not reveal their names to the public.

Eli stopped combing his hair upon hearing this, his green eyes widening slightly. "Really? You're not kidding me."

Lynn resolutely swore, "I'm not lying, I'm an alien."

"Alien? You mean people from the stars? Do you think you're the Archmage Alan?" Eli snorted and chuckled softly.

Alan Diaz? Lynn remembered him. He was an extremely famous archmage, skilled in star-summoning magic, and thus earned the title of "Star Mage".

"However, I'm willing to believe you." Her gaze was lowered, her expression gentle. "You saved me twice. Although for some reasons I can't repay these favors in the name of the Frey family, I personally think you're a good person and a trustworthy companion."

Hearing such sincere words, Lynn was moved.

"So," Eli changed the subject, "go find my friend for me! A reliable adventurer!" She added a chanting tone to the last part, as if imitating a scene from a play.

"...No rush. Tomorrow I'll take you to meet my three teammates and see what they have to say."

Lynn tried to steer the conversation back to the main topic:

"Well then, since you're willing to trust me, I'm also willing to share a secret with you."

He lowered his voice, feigning mystery, and uttered the words he had prepared beforehand:

"The ancient legacy of that mysterious mage is a powerful magic system that I call the 'Magic Web,' and you will become its first member."

"Magic...system?" Eli's breathing slowed down. As a mage, she naturally understood the importance of magic, but the source of magic was a mystery that countless researchers had spent years trying to unravel.

"Can I really join it, join that 'magic network'?"

Lynn's face was stern, and his voice was deep. "Of course, but you must promise to keep it a secret."

Eli was so excited that her body trembled slightly; this was exactly what she had always longed for.

A mysterious young man with an unassuming appearance but an ancient heritage—what does he truly represent? Is he a descendant of an ancient magical family? Or a hidden, unknown archmage?

But while she looked forward to it, she still retained her rationality.

"I must make sure it's safe and harmless, untouched by evil or the supernatural!"

She paused for a moment, then added, "Of course, this isn't because I doubt you, but because many ancient magical traditions have far-reaching connections and require careful consideration."

This stumped Lynn; he didn't know how to prove it.

At that moment, Eli raised his staff, pointing the emerald-encrusted tip toward Lynn.

"Touch it, and then recall things about that inheritance," Eli explained when he saw Lynn hesitate. "Don't worry, it won't know the specifics of your memories, but it can sense whether you're lying."

Lynn pondered for a moment. Eli didn't seem to be bluffing him, and if the staff could truly verify whether the origin of the "Grimoire of the Roots" was evil, it would also be beneficial to him.

He gently touched the gem with his hand, then recalled the appearance of the grimoire, but that was all; he still intended to keep the grimoire's abilities hidden.

The green gemstone emitted a faint glow, which lasted for a long time without changing.

"Very good." Eli nodded, acknowledging Lynn's suggestion, then raised her right hand with three fingers pointing upwards.

"By magic above, by the Brown Star which governs the fate of mortals, I, Eli Frey, pledge to keep Lynn Lowell's secret, and I will never break my promise."

This is an oath of extremely high caliber, even possessing the power of magical laws.

Lynn was somewhat surprised by the depth of trust this half-elf girl placed in him, but at the same time, he refrained from reminding her to "beware of fire, theft, and fraud."

Then, he summoned the Root Codex and touched the [Psionic] Star with his mind.

In an instant, a purple, spiderweb-like network spread out all around, extending dozens of meters away.

They've always been there; they've just become visible now.

"Yes, you need to relax first, naturally release your spirituality until you feel a touch containing magic, and then try to accept it..."

Lynn recalled the knowledge he had gained along with his talent for magic networks and conveyed it to Eli as concisely as possible.

Seeing Eli obediently close her eyes, he controlled the magic net to gather around her, trying to wrap her into a purple cocoon.

The process went very smoothly, and when Eli opened her eyes again, she felt completely different!

"Oh my god!" She discovered that her magic pool had doubled in size, and at the same time, she felt a continuous stream of magic power automatically flowing into her body.

"That's amazing."
