I am a mage, with an infinite mana bar!

Chapter 15 Unexpected Visitor

Is this because he learned about shield magic from the old man Barton, which caused a "mutation"?

Lynn was pleasantly surprised. The three first-level spells were all quite common on the market, but this special effect was something he had never seen before.

He suspected that this was a special effect that only a veteran mage like Barton could have developed.

I never imagined I could "steal" it!

This greatly increases the versatility of the [Shield] spell!

Lynn no longer hesitated and chose [Shield Spell], which was a type of protective magic that he currently lacked.

Next, he incorporated the purple inspiration into the [Psionic] stars.

Your magic is boiling! You are about to approach the source of the world!

[Talent unlocked, absorb magic power]

[Effect: You gain the ability to actively absorb magic power. When you approach unclaimed magical entities or voluntary creatures with magic power, you will be able to extract magic power from them.]

Lynn quickly digested the knowledge that flooded his mind with his newfound talent, gaining a more comprehensive understanding.

In other words, he can now extract magic power from dead monsters, unclaimed magical items, or spellcasters who voluntarily allow him to extract magic power within close range.

Lynn suppressed his excitement and let out a long sigh of relief.

Now, his endurance will reach an extremely exaggerated level. If he learns a few more powerful spells, he can basically be an army on his own!

Of course, this applies when dealing with groups of low-star monsters; he doesn't yet have the resources to wage a protracted war against higher-star monsters.

Unexpectedly, in just one day, he upgraded both the [Wisdom] and [Psionic] stars by one level.

Unfortunately, the third [Bloodline] star has remained silent.

Lynn silently concluded that the upgrade method of the "Root Magic Codex" is quite different from the conventional way of learning magic.

Conventional magical practice requires meditation and extensive study of scriptures, and tends to be more about solitary cultivation.

The Root Codex allows users to gain experience through continuous contact with spellcasters and magic-related matters, which is somewhat similar to the "social cultivation method" that has become popular in recent years.

That's fine too. Compared to burying herself in research, Lynn prefers the feeling of getting things done while "eating hot pot and chatting".

He became even more determined to help Eli, which would not only allow him to build a good relationship with Barton and even the White Tower behind him, but also give him access to more powerful spellcasters.

For example, the mysterious druid friend Eli is looking for.

Maybe I can learn druid magic? Controlling beasts, manipulating plants, transforming into an owl-bear... It sounds pretty interesting.

Looking at the clock, Lynn realized it was already 2:30 a.m., and then she felt sleepy and pulled the covers over herself and fell into a deep sleep.

……

"Knock knock knock—"

What the hell! This is the fourth time they've knocked on the door tonight! Are they even going to let me sleep?!

He opened his eyes and suddenly realized that the sound was not coming from the doorway.

Lynn carefully got up and slowly approached the window, the sound of knocking on the glass coming through the curtains.

He carefully opened a crack in the window and, by the light of the half-moon, saw the scene outside.

A small bat with canine teeth, bright red eyes, and rather delicate features was half-folding its wings and constantly tapping the glass with its winged forepaws.

It even had a red formal bow tie around its neck!

Suddenly, it spotted Lynn spying on it, flew over abruptly, baring its teeth and claws and saying something.

Lynn immediately drew the curtains.

"I was probably just too tired, or maybe I was dreaming all along?"

"Tap tap tap!" The knocking on the window became more urgent, like raindrops, carrying a strong sense of dissatisfaction.

Lynn drew back the curtains again, pressed her body against the glass window, and looked down at the strange bat.

With its small mouth open, it took turns kicking the window with its front and hind paws, seemingly trying its best to express its anger.

Lynn pressed his ear against the window to barely make out what it was shouting.

"Damn it! You so-called mage! You saw me and you still didn't open the door! Didn't I already send you a message that I'll come to the Iris Inn to see you when I have time this month!"

Lynn blinked. Was this little guy really here to see him? Could it be that the original owner of this body had arranged for him to come?

He recalled the original owner's inexplicable sudden death, and how he himself had been bedridden in a hotel for a whole week due to his weakened state after transmigrating...

Better safe than sorry.

So he chanted a spell and used a magic wave.

There was no malice intended, just the anger of not being able to get in the door. This little guy has quite a temper!

Lynn had already set the [Shield Spell] to trigger automatically, and with the three Ring-Up Shield Spells given to him by Old Man Barton, he felt quite confident.

He opened the window a crack and immediately asked, "I don't remember making a deal with a bat. Who are you? What do you want with me?"

The little bat seemed about to explode with anger, yelling, "You idiot, you damned bookworm! Can't you even recognize me, so handsome and dashing? Let me in right now, or don't you still want to buy my special potion?!"

Potions? Lynn suddenly remembered that the original owner of this body had bought something at a potion shop on the north side of Colin Town before his death.

He also recalled the young pharmacist's appearance and what he had said to the original owner of the body:

"This is a bottle of miraculous water, simultaneously blessed by angels and cursed by demons. Limited-time discount: only 30 silver coins, no refunds!"

Then, after returning to the inn, the original owner drank the potion, and what happened next...

Lynn tried hard to recall but to no avail. He could only guess that the original owner had fallen into an abnormal state two days later, until he suddenly fainted during the mission, and then Lynn transmigrated into his body.

That potion must be the cause of the original owner's death!

Following the original owner's habits from his memory, he went to the desk, opened the bottom book, "A Compilation of Legends of Witches from Various Places," and found a note inside.

"The deposit has been received. I've been busy lately, so I'll deliver the goods to room 11 of the Iris Hotel within a month."

The signature was a bright red bat seal.

So this is why the original owner insisted on renting a room in Iris Garden for a month?

Did he drink that potion and go insane? He spent all his money in one go...

Lynn turned to look out the window at the fake medicine swindler who was still chattering on and on.

This guy has already caused someone's death, and he still dares to deliver goods so brazenly?

Lynn quickly sketched the spell for the Frost Ring in his mind, opened the window, and grabbed the bat.

"What, what are you going to do?!" the bat screamed in terror. "I already told you I'm here to deliver goods, didn't you understand?!"

Lynn lied without expression, "I gave that bottle of medicine to a friend, but he suddenly died two days later!"

He manipulated the ice ring to approach, appearing as if he were about to rid the people of a scourge.

The bat trembled with fear and immediately shouted:

"How could that be? My potion's side effects couldn't kill! At most, it would make you dizzy, like you're very drunk, or suddenly see some strange things..."

It muttered, "This isn't necessarily a bad thing for a mage; it might even inspire them."

The ice ring continued to approach, its constantly rotating, sharp edges drawing near the bat's neck, which was adorned with a bow tie.

Why should I believe you?

"Why would I lie to you! We noble vampires would never stoop to such fraudulent schemes! When I bought the potion, I clearly stated that it was a 'miracle potion simultaneously blessed by angels and cursed by demons'! There's a one-in-half chance; success means a fortune, and even if I'm unlucky and fail, I'll only be sick for a few days!"
