Chapter 77 The Troublesome Hell's Kitchen.
Chapter 77 The Troublesome Hell's Kitchen.
Mark found an abandoned, unmanned factory, put the Demon Clown into hibernation, and then woke up.
Mark found himself feeling like he was playing a game when he controlled the Demon Clown.
Whether it's due to shadow energy or not, Mark noticed that his sleep seemed to be getting shorter; he only needed to sleep three hours a day to stay energetic.
"I hope it won't affect my development," Mark thought to himself.
There are no mutants in Hell's Kitchen, at least they haven't found any.
Feeling somewhat heavy-hearted, the four mutants decided to leave and go find the Arklay Genetics Corporation that Mark had mentioned.
As soon as the four left Hell's Kitchen, a Chevrolet pulled up in front of them, and a middle-aged man got out.
"Gentlemen, this is information about Aclair Genetics Corporation, as well as their secret laboratories around the world. My master asked me to pass it on to you."
Charles didn't ask who the owner was, because he already knew.
He quickly took the document, and before he could even examine it, the middle-aged man opposite him began to chant a slogan devoutly: "The world belongs to—"
"To the Lord of Shadows!"
The mutant quartet: "???"
Seeing that the other party did not respond, the middle-aged man's face instantly turned cold.
The investigation is complete; these individuals are not our own people.
The middle-aged man, looking gloomy, turned and got into the Chevrolet, then drove off.
Logan, a cigar dangling from his lips, stared blankly at the departing Chevrolet and asked, "Charles, have we joined some evil organization?"
"No, it was Eric and me. This has nothing to do with you," Charles quickly distanced himself.
Logan:
'
Now that you've said that, I'm even more annoyed.
Logan, speechless, turned his head away, clearly not wanting to talk to Charles.
Eric watched the Chevrolet gradually disappear into the distance, lost in thought.
Eric said, "That guy seems to be quite wealthy."
Caliban said meaningfully, "He's not just rich; that guy is a New York State legislator. While he might not be considered extremely powerful in New York, he's still a very influential figure."
"Regardless of whether the Illuminati is an evil organization, the stronger the Illuminati is, the greater the benefits to us," Charles explained.
Having abandoned his moral fastidiousness, he has now begun to accept the darkness.
Eric nodded in agreement, and sneered, "As long as mutants can be great again, I don't care whether the light of day is evil or good."
Caliban opened his mouth, seemingly wanting to say something, but then stopped himself. He wanted to ask this young Magneto, "When have mutants ever been great?"
However, considering the other party's volatile temper, Caliban decisively chose to keep quiet.
In the Chevrolet, the state legislator respectfully reported via cell phone: "Master, those documents have been delivered to them."
"Just have someone keep an eye on them, but don't have any obvious contact with them," Mark ordered.
He doesn't want to confront Mr. Sinister now, otherwise he wouldn't have pushed the mutant quartet to cause trouble for the Essex Corporation.
"Yes, sir." The state legislator hung up the phone.
As the saying goes, those in the same trade are enemies. His character is not a supervillain but a behind-the-scenes boss, which means that his enemies are not just those "righteous people".
Mark is more concerned about threats from his own kind, after all, even when "righteous people" are held at gunpoint, they still have a moral bottom line.
But his peers were different; each one had no bottom line, forcing him to follow suit and constantly lower his own standards.
Mark's life was relatively peaceful for the next three days.
He occasionally controls the Joker to tease Batman, then remotely manages the political arena, and at night he sets targets for Hit-Girl and the others.
There were no problems with Batman, and there were no problems with politics, but Hell's Kitchen ran into trouble.
Mark's assessment of this was: This crappy place is full of trouble.
"Mark! We've encountered a superhuman. It's the red-clad assassin who tried to kill Obadiah before, and it seems like we're her target this time." Jessica briefly explained the situation to him via communicator.
After she finished speaking, Jessica asked, "Should we hold back?"
"The female assassin in red? You guys hold her off for now."
Mark suddenly became interested; the red-clad assassin Jessica mentioned must undoubtedly be Erica.
-
In this world where everything depends on technology or mutation, very few people are willing to cultivate themselves in a down-to-earth manner.
After all, there are generally only two sources of supernatural abilities in the West: either they are achieved through technological advancements or they are derived from mutations.
Mark instantly teleported from the window to the rooftop of the building opposite, and then continued to teleport short distances towards Jessica and the others.
Meanwhile, at the headquarters of a certain gang.
Erica accepted the stares of Jessica and Hit-Girl with a blank expression.
She received orders from above to kill the two guys in front of her. Although Hit-Girl was just a little girl, she felt a little reluctant to kill a little girl herself.
But once she arrived at the scene, Erica completely forgot about her reluctance.
Among all the corpses around, those who died from gunshot wounds were mostly killed by that little girl.
As an assassin, Erica knew how deadly her pity at this moment could be.
Jessica and Hit-Girl both stared coldly at the female assassin who had suddenly launched a sneak attack.
The goddess looked at Erica nervously, then lowered her voice and asked, "Knight, what did they say from above?"
"Mark will be here soon, but we can finish the fight beforehand," Jessica replied.
Upon hearing this, HitGirl decisively took action, breaking the deadlock first.
The twin flames of the submachine gun flashed rapidly in the darkness, the bullet trajectories forming a deadly web. Erica rolled to dodge the bullets, but those following closely behind always caught up with her previous point of impact.
After Erica hid in the shadows, Hit-Girl disappeared from sight.
"Watch out! That guy's got some ninja tricks." As soon as HitGirl finished speaking, Erica emerged from the shadows behind Jessica, attacking with both forks simultaneously—her left fork aimed at the posterior cervical plexus, while her right fork stabbed at the kidney area on the side of the lumbar spine.
The moment she heard the noise behind her, Jessica turned around and threw a punch. When Erica saw that Jessica had reacted, she didn't retreat but advanced instead. She quickly flipped in the air and used the tips of her forks to lightly touch Jessica's forearm to gain momentum, so that she could pass over Jessica's head at an even faster speed.
After Erica landed, her center of gravity instantly shifted, and she delivered a low sweeping kick to Jessica's back of the knee.
Jessica was subjected to lateral force on her knee joint, and when she knelt on one knee, her knee smashed through the concrete slab.
She reached back and grabbed, but only grasped emptiness.
Erica had already moved to the left side, her two forks converging as she chiseled towards the carotid sinus above the clavicle.
Mindy reacted quickly, sheathing her two pistols and throwing a stun grenade.
The stun grenade exploded in mid-air, the shockwave spreading out and precisely covering the area where the two were located. Jessica remained motionless, but Erica's vestibular system was thrown off balance, her balance collapsing in an instant, and she only stopped when her shoulder blade slammed into the wall next to her.
Immediately afterwards, Mindy fired three bursts of fire: the first blocked his path as he rolled forward, the second grazed his shoulder and tore through his uniform, and the third went straight for his chest.
Erica quickly used her left hand to deflect the third deadly bullet. The tungsten steel bullet struck the fork blade, and the impact traveled along her arm.
Erica groaned as she blocked the fatal blow, but the skin on her hand was ripped open, and warm blood flowed down the handle of the fork.
Jessica got up and stepped into a shallow pit.
Mindy reloaded the magazine, the crisp sound of it snapping into the gun echoing through the factory.
The two began to advance. Mindy fired as he moved, changing the angle of his shot with each step, creating layers of bullet trajectories—high, low, left, right, each shot cutting off a path of retreat.
Jessica leaped forward, crashing into Erica's area like a cannonball. With each landing, she shattered a patch of ground, sending shards of glass and metal fragments bouncing around her.
She spread her arms to block off a three-meter-wide area, gradually shrinking the living space. The northeast corner was a dead end, with walls on three sides and the ceiling completely blocked off.
Before being cornered, Erica gritted her teeth and made a quick decision.
She leaped up quickly, plunged her twin forks into the joint of the pipe above her head, and pried it off with all her might, tearing the entire rusted pipe apart by the force of the lever. The rust and cooling water exploded into a silvery mist, obscuring Mindy's vision and causing a gap of a fraction of a second in her trajectory.
Having successfully seized a sliver of an opportunity, Erica turned her head through the mist, pointing directly at the tip of her finger.
Instead of charging straight ahead, she took advantage of every possible terrain feature, approaching from four directions in alternating waves. Footsteps simultaneously reached Mindy's ears from above, left, and behind.
The dense sound of footsteps made it impossible for Mindy to locate the target by the repeated refraction of the echoes. She could only fire on instinct, the bullets drawing clear trajectories in the water mist, but each one was followed by nothing.
Mindy's tracking was always 0.1 seconds slower.
Erica suddenly plummeted vertically from the shadows directly above, her legs wrapping around Mindy's neck.
Mindy quickly rolled backward to avoid the strangulation attack. After Erica landed, she continued to chop down with her right fork. Mindy used the gun to block the fatal blow.
Mindy knew the difference in strength between the two sides, so she quickly released the gun, took out a butterfly knife from the outside of her thigh with her right hand, and stabbed Erica in the abdomen from a tricky angle with the blade turned half a circle between her fingers.
Seeing this, Erica quickly pulled back and tucked in her stomach, but Mindy's knife tip still tore through her uniform, leaving a thin, long bloodstain on the left side of her lower abdomen.
The brief exchange also made Erica realize the strength of her opponent.
Knowing that continuing the fight would only result in mission failure at best, Erica threw out a few smoke bombs.
The strength of the target of this mission exceeded our expectations, and we must find a better opportunity.
Just as Erica was trying to escape using a smoke bomb, a golden energy chain suddenly emerged from the smoke.
Erica's pupils contracted as she leaped through the air. She abruptly changed position mid-air, barely dodging the chain.
The chain seemed to have a life of its own, and it turned again, coiling around her waist like a nimble snake.
A tremendous pressure came from the chains, and Erica was slammed to the floor while in mid-air. Just as Erica was trying to break the chains wrapped around her waist, a strange feeling of weakness suddenly surged from her waist throughout her body.
