Why is my territory in a 2D anime art style?

Chapter 12 The Weakness of the Elemental Statues

For two days in a row, Sui An slept soundly every night, with only the occasional thunder and explosions being somewhat jarring.

As usual, Sui An went to bed tonight, but in the middle of the night, a sudden, urgent warning sound rang out from the core of the territory, waking Sui An from his sleep.

"What's going on?"

Sui An's first thought upon waking was, "A beast tide has arrived?"

Otherwise, why would the energy defense shield emit a warning sound?

But suddenly, he found it was very quiet outside, without a sound at all.

"Wait, why isn't my elemental statue making any sound?"

Thinking of this, Sui An quickly dressed, grabbed his spear and crossbow, and rushed out.

He looked around and found that his elemental statue was still in the courtyard, without any problems.

"What's going on?"

Before the alarm in the core of the territory had even stopped, Sui An hurriedly looked around in the courtyard, and what he saw almost scared him to death.

A huge beast was clinging to its wall in the moonlight. It stood upright, its body was black, and it was at least three meters tall, looking like a giant brown bear.

Most of its body was leaning against its energy shield, and its huge claws were violently slapping against the shield.

The energy shield, which could withstand the attacks of many wire wolves at the same time, was now trembling violently, with ripples spreading across it, clearly indicating its extraordinary power.

"What the hell is this thing?"

Sui An seemed to have never seen such a source beast before, but now was not the time to investigate. He raised his crossbow and fired an arrow at it.

"when!"

The sharp arrowhead struck steel, producing a metallic clang.

"Hiss~"

Sui An's eyes narrowed slightly: "Although my crossbow is only of white quality, is it really necessary to be this exaggerated?"

However, the sound allowed Sui An to make a slight confirmation of what the surface of this source beast was.

"A colossal beast covered in scales, why isn't my elemental statue attacking it automatically?"

"Could it be able to block the elemental statues' detection?"

The thought immediately brought Sui An back to his senses. He quickly summoned his territory projection and clicked on one of the elemental statues.

Electricity began to flicker on the elemental statue. Sui An chose to personally control the attack, and a new projection appeared before his eyes—a solitary projection of the elemental statue.

"As expected, the behemoth cannot be seen from the elemental statue's special perspective!"

"Thankfully, I can lock onto the direction myself!"

As he connected his thoughts to the elemental statue, the statue finally activated, and a bright and dazzling lightning magic bullet quickly gathered and shot towards Sui An's locked-on direction.

"boom!"

The invincible lightning ball struck the chest of the unknown source beast and exploded violently. A flash of light passed by, and the violent shockwave of the explosion only caused the scaled behemoth to fall backward, and the originally black scales on its chest became dull.

"roar!"

It seemed that the power of the exploding lightning ball had slightly injured it. A muffled roar came out, and the black scales all over its body suddenly began to fade, slowly turning silver-white.

However, its thick limbs shone with an extremely dense black energy glow, as dark as ink under the moonlight.

The behemoth did not attempt to flee. Instead, it suddenly stood up again and, taking advantage of the time interval during which the elemental statues were charging up their energy, raised its enormous claw, which was brimming with black source energy, and slammed it toward Sui An.

Faced with such a powerful attack, Sui An's expression changed drastically. He had a premonition that if he were hit by this attack, his energy shield would definitely not be able to withstand it and would be forcibly disabled.

But even with the behemoth's actions, the elemental statues on the other side of the territory suddenly lit up automatically, and another lightning ball shot out, striking the behemoth again before its claws could fall.

This time, the lightning ball struck the massive head of the source beast. The powerful force immediately made it dizzy and disoriented, causing it to stagger and fall to the ground again, kicking up a cloud of dust.

"That was close!"

Cold sweat dripped silently down Sui An's forehead. If he had been any slower, his shield would have been gone.

Both elemental statues were able to automatically lock onto the unknown behemoth, as if its method of gathering dark energy in its claws had rendered it unable to hide itself, thus exposing it to the elemental statues' vision.

The two stone statues alternately released lightning orbs, perfectly staggering their cooldown intervals. One lightning magic bullet after another blasted the giant beast, causing it to howl in agony.

Its incredibly strong limbs tried several times to prop itself up, but were blasted down by the alternating impacts of the lightning balls.

Taking advantage of this time, Sui An had already climbed to the top of the watchtower.

His own crossbow was too weak, but the large crossbow on the watchtower was a different story.

Seemingly paralyzed by the power of lightning, the giant beast trembled all over, its stance becoming increasingly weak, as if it could no longer muster any strength in its limbs.

"Boom!"

The bowstring trembled, and at a distance of only about ten meters, the crossbow bolt struck the back of the giant beast in an instant. The silvery-white scales had already been baptized by lightning and turned red, like iron armor scorched by high temperatures.

The reddish scales were shattered, but the crossbow bolts lost most of their power, barely penetrating the arrowhead before stopping.

"Such powerful defense! This can't possibly be a level one Origin Beast!"

"It took three buildings attacking simultaneously to shatter the scales. If my blue building hadn't been a lightning element statue, this guy probably would have just taken the damage and run away."

Sui An had participated in the defense of the city many times and had seen many strange and wonderful source beasts, but he had never seen the source beast in front of him before.

"Boom!"

The bowstring trembled again, the sound drowned out by the thunderous explosion below.

This time, the arrow struck another spot on its back. It seemed to have been bombarded by lightning orbs too many times, which had significantly reduced its defenses. The arrow pierced halfway into its back before stopping.

However, the elemental statues on both sides continued to attack even after firing more than a dozen lightning balls, indicating that the source beast's vitality was still normal.

Sui An dared not be careless. Taking advantage of the fact that the giant beast was unable to move, he aimed at its huge head.

However, this arrow seemed far less effective than the previous two. Perhaps because its head hadn't been properly exposed to the lightning, this powerful crossbow bolt seemed to slip, striking the ground with a string of sparks.

"Fine, let's just shoot him in the back. Anyway, the wound will bleed profusely after the crossbow bolt dissipates. Even if he doesn't die from the wound, he'll bleed to death."

One arrow, two arrows... When Sui An fired the fifth arrow with the crossbow, the elemental statues on both sides suddenly fell silent.

Under the moonlight, the giant beast lay motionless on the ground. Its scales, shattered by the six crossbow bolts, had been broken in pieces. Without the protection of those terrifying scales, the powerful impact of the lightning ball would have been enough to shatter its internal organs.

But Sui An didn't dare to go down directly. He stood on the watchtower for a while before confirming that the giant beast was really dead.

"How did I get this guy in here...?"

Sui An had a headache. The beast, which stood more than three meters tall and had a burly build, was almost a giant polar bear. Moreover, the creature was covered in scales, so you could imagine how heavy it was. He estimated it weighed more than a ton.

Looking up at my surroundings, I saw that the sky was already starting to lighten. In another hour or so, it should be dawn.

"Let's wait until dawn and see. Hopefully, there will be a surprise for me, otherwise I'll lose out big time tonight."

Sui An glanced at his energy reserves. After these few days of recovery, his core energy had stabilized at 90%, but now it was only 65%.

These two elemental statues consumed about 16% of their power; the rest was consumed by the behemoth attacking their shields.

This means that this guy used up 15 of my Originium. If he had only mined out one low-level Originium and that was it, I really don't know whether it was a loss or a gain.

There haven't been any blood moons lately, so I've only earned 10 source stones in the last three days. These were mostly from a few source beasts passing by my doorstep, which were then killed by the elemental statues.

"I'm too poor..."
