Starting from the destruction of the Land of Light
Chapter 1: Mysterious Men and Women
The piercing alarm shattered the peaceful afternoon, followed by a terrifying, earth-shaking roar.
In the urban-rural fringe, the sturdy asphalt road bursts and bulges like a fragile biscuit, accompanied by clouds of dust and gravel. Two huge and ferocious figures emerge from the ground one after another, standing on the edge of the city.
The first monster resembled an upright centipede, its body covered in a thick carapace reflecting a cold light in the sunlight, its two pairs of enormous tentacles opening and closing restlessly, emitting a sickening metallic scraping sound.
Not far from it, an even more ferocious monster raised its spiked head, its blood-red compound eyes scanning the chaotic crowd of refugees. Each stomp of its thick legs made the ground tremble, and its two long, whip-like arms lashed and lashed the air dangerously, producing a sharp, whistling sound.
"A monster! It's a monster!"
"Run! Get out of here!"
"How could this be? How could a monster be here?!"
Screams, the sound of shattering glass, and car sirens instantly filled the entire block.
The crowd, like a swarm of startled ants, fled frantically in the direction away from the monster, and the streets were instantly filled with panic and chaos.
However, amidst this surging, fleeing tide, two people remained steadfast as a rock.
A man and a woman stood side by side in the middle of the sidewalk.
The man was tall and straight, dressed in simple dark casual wear. His face was young but had a calmness beyond his years. His eyes were sharp as an eagle's, fixed on the roaring, rampaging two-tailed monster in the distance.
His hands hung naturally at his sides without trembling, as if what was approaching was not a catastrophe, but a game of chess that required careful observation.
The woman stood slightly behind him, her long hair fluttering slightly in the gale whipped up by the monster. She wore a well-fitting off-white trench coat, her posture elegant and resolute.
Compared to the man's sharp gaze, her eyes were deeper and calmer, like a still ancient well reflecting the massive figure of the ancient mound, yet without stirring the slightest ripple.
There was even a faint smile on her lips, not a mockery, but a knowing indifference.
The fleeing crowd rushed past them in a panic, some even bumping into the man's shoulder. He merely turned slightly to deflect the impact, his eyes never leaving the monster. Some shouted "Run!" to them, but they ignored them.
The presence of this man and woman seemed out of place amidst the torrent of panic, yet they were also remarkably conspicuous, like two observers standing apart from the clamor.
Just then, a sharp engine roar came from afar, drowning out some of the chaotic noise.
Two streaks of silver lightning ripped across the sky, carrying an undeniable force, and hurtled low overhead, the powerful airflow ruffling the woman's long hair and the man's clothes.
"It's Watchman One!" Someone in the crowd recognized their savior and shouted excitedly.
Two advanced fighter jets, painted with the Earth Defense Force's "Watchmen" insignia—Watchmen One and Two—dive down at an extremely high speed, the lights of activated weapons flashing beneath their wings.
"Watcher One has locked onto target A, codename: Twin-Tailed Monster. Prepare to launch the special armor-piercing missile!"
"Watcher II locks onto target B, codename: Ancient Dune, high-energy laser cannon charging!"
The driver's calm and professional report came through the communication channel, tinged with a hint of tension as if on the verge of battle.
Like falcons swooping down on a giant beast, the two fighter jets circled and swooped down above the monster, searching for the best angle to deliver a fatal blow.
The machine gun fired first, tracer rounds weaving a dense net of fire that struck the two-tailed monster's carapace and Gudun's rough skin, scattering sparks and debris, temporarily attracting the attention of the two monsters.
The two-tailed monster let out an angry screech, and a blue energy blasted towards the hovering fighter jet. Gudun was even more enraged, whipping his long whip at Watcher II, forcing it to make a dangerous emergency evasive maneuver, leaving a messy trail in the air.
Intense aerial battles unfolded overhead, with explosions and monster roars mingling as stray bullets and debris and shockwaves from monster attacks continuously pounded the ground.
However, the couple on the sidewalk remained motionless.
The man's gaze followed every maneuver of the fighter jets, seemingly assessing their tactics and the monsters' reaction patterns. The woman tilted her head slightly, her gaze passing through the flames of the explosions and landing on Gudun's pair of violent red eyes, a hint of seriousness flashing in her eyes.
"Sigh..." The man finally spoke, his voice deep and clear, standing out even amidst the surrounding noise, carrying a hint of barely perceptible indifference. "With these weapons, we can't break through the Twin-Tailed Monster's hard armor, nor can we keep up with Gudun's speed."
"But at least they have commendable courage, don't they?" The woman's voice was clear and melodious, like a mountain stream.
The man chuckled, then turned to the woman beside him: "It seems these monsters are becoming more active lately. Before this, no monster had ever appeared so close to the city..."
After a pause, the man spoke again.
"...Luo Xi, after all this time, haven't you found anything useful on your end?"
Upon hearing this, the woman called Luo Xi slowly took out her phone from her pocket and pulled up a photo. "Of course I can't ignore the matter you asked me to do, Zhang Chen, take a look at this first."
Zhang Chen took the phone. The photo showed a star chart, clearly taken from an angle outside Earth, with an arc drawn on it, seemingly recording some kind of trajectory.
Luo Xi continued, "This is the migration route of the monsters Balu from last time. They were originally just passing by Earth, but they changed their course at the last minute. Although these guys weren't very strong, they still caused quite a bit of trouble at the time."
"I've heard about it; it's been reported in the news for several days." Zhang Chen nodded slightly.
"If even migrating monsters can be affected, I suspect that someone on Earth has built some kind of device that can summon or attract monsters. This device would not only awaken the original monsters on Earth, but also attract alien monsters."
"I'm afraid this is something that Earth's technology can't achieve, is it?" Zhang Chen handed his phone to Luo Xi.
"I didn't say that the person who built this device was an Earthling." Luo Xi put his phone in his pocket.
Just as Luo Xi finished speaking—
Boom!
A beam of light burning with crimson flames, like a falling meteor, descended from the sky with overwhelming force, striking the ancient dummy's raised chin as it prepared to launch itself.
"Roar—!" Gudun's huge head was slammed back by this terrifying force, and his entire body fell to the ground.
The crimson beam of light continued unabated, drawing a brilliant arc of fire in the air with its violent impact. Its right leg, like a red-hot steel pillar, slammed into the incredibly thick side armor of the twin-tailed monster, which was about to attack another fighter jet.
Boom!
A dull, resounding crash, like the pounding of a giant bell, echoed throughout the entire block. The massive body of the two-tailed monster was kicked off the ground, letting out a shrill, painful howl. Like an out-of-control mountain, it tumbled and crashed into the abandoned factory in the distance, creating a deafening roar that sent up clouds of dust and debris that blotted out the sky.
The whole world seemed to fall into a deathly silence in an instant.
The fleeing crowd suddenly stopped, staring in disbelief at the enormous figure that stood proudly amidst the smoke and fire.
His body was predominantly red, with silver patterns outlining his strong, explosive physique. His head had a streamlined blade, just like the original Ultraman and Ultraman Jack. His slightly upturned, milky-white oval eyes were now burning with a wild and majestic light, firmly locking onto the two-tailed monster struggling in the ruins.
Upon seeing him, the crowd erupted in an incredulous gasp, their fear overshadowed by awe and ecstasy.
Before everyone could recover from the shock—
A clear, pure blue light appeared silently in front of Gudun, who was about to get up and give chase in a fit of rage. It had no earth-shattering power, but it carried a chilling aura that could freeze the soul and spread out instantly.
The blue light quickly condensed, transforming into another equally tall giant.
Her entire body was a deep, serene blue, with silver armor covering the key areas of her shoulders, chest, arms, and legs, like a finely forged star armor, exuding a cold metallic luster and a sense of holiness.
With perfect body proportions, elegant and smooth lines, and a simple yet sacred head design, a pair of bright, calm diamond-shaped eyes gaze serenely at the ancient mound emitting a threatening growl. The invisible pressure makes the irritable ancient mound stiffen its movements.
One red and one blue, two giants of light with vastly different styles yet equally powerful and radiating a new aura, descended together in a breathtaking manner at the center of the battlefield.
"Ultraman Eggers, and... Ultraman Phyllis?"
Upon seeing the two giants appear, Luo Xi adjusted her glasses slightly. From her tone, it was clear that she wasn't surprised by the red giant, but she was quite interested in the blue one.
Zhang Chen also turned his gaze to the location of the giant.
"Aegis, the Ultraman who has joined the Earth Defense Force, is also the Ultraman whose human form has been exposed. I heard that he is a guy who is being monitored 24 hours a day."
"It's both surveillance and protection. Don't forget, the last human host whose identity was exposed abroad met a terrible end." Luo Xi said, then looked at the blue figure. "But this Phyllis... his origins are quite mysterious."
"yes."
Zhang Chen nodded: "It's been almost a year since she first appeared, and it's truly unbelievable that the Earth Defense Force hasn't been able to find her human form despite their capabilities."
"Should I investigate?" A faint blue light flashed in Luo Xi's eyes. "Finding a human who inherited Ultraman's power shouldn't be too difficult."
Upon hearing this, Zhang Chen's lips curled into a smile.
After pondering for a moment, he shook his head. "Forget it, she's not my target, and I'm not that curious. Besides... the Earth Defense Force isn't just sitting around doing nothing."
Luo Xi was taken aback, then pondered for a moment: "...You mean, they actually know Ultraman Phyllis's identity, but just haven't revealed it?"
Zhang Chen remained silent.
"Impossible." Luo Xi frowned slightly. "Since the destruction of the Land of Light, there are only a handful of people who have inherited Ultraman's power. Wouldn't the humans in the Earth Defense Force keep such power firmly in their hands? Aren't they afraid that Ultraman Phyllis's human form will be assassinated by aliens?"
"Who knows?" Zhang Chen glanced at the four enormous creatures locked in fierce combat in the distance, then slowly withdrew his gaze. "Anyway, it's none of our business. Just focus on what's in front of you."
"That's true..." Luo Xi nodded slightly, then looked at Zhang Chen, her tone slightly teasing. "But aren't you going to lend a hand?"
Upon hearing this, Zhang Chen turned his head and said, "There's no need. It's just the Twin-Tailed Monster and Gudun. It might be a little difficult for them to fight two at once, but they can handle two against two."
Then he patted his waist.
"Besides, this guy is full, so he's not too hungry."
