Chapter 3 Contract with the Initial Spirit

As soon as Luo Xing entered, he saw Bai Qiuxue leaning back in her chair, fiddling with a gulu ball in her hand.

"Luo Xing, do you need any advice from your older sister?"

"Thank you, teacher! No need."

"Tch." She handed the ball in her hand to Luo Xing.

"Each student will receive a standard Gulu Ball, which will be used to contract the Pokémon you choose. Your homeroom teacher has already explained the rules. Once you've chosen, just come out and register."

Luo Xing took the Gulu Ball and, not daring to linger any longer, headed straight for the first incubation room.

According to his understanding, the number of Sparklings should be the largest, at least one or two hundred. Judging from their mental state, you can tell that they have been bred exceptionally well.

Luo Xing glanced around and activated his All-Knowing Eye.

A densely packed information panel appeared before his eyes.

[Sprite: Spark / Quality: Common / Talent: Average]

A quick scan revealed only ordinary quality items.

Luo Xing's gaze did not linger; he continued to look deeper into the distance.

The seventeenth.

[Sprite: Spark / Quality: Rare / Talent: Excellent / Nature: Timid]

"It's a pity her personality is so bad!"

Ultimately, out of more than a hundred sparks, only four had rare bloodlines, and none of them had good personalities.

Luo Xing decisively abandoned the spark option and headed towards the azure area.

There were fewer of the Water Blues than Sparks, about sixty or seventy in number. The little blue creatures were floating in the water, bubbling, and were much quieter than Sparks.

Luo Xing's gaze swept methodically over each of the aquamarine birds, and when it reached the third row on the right, her pupils contracted slightly.

In the corner, a blue-eyed creature was huddled at the very edge of the water tank, its body curled up in a ball, its little head buried between its two front paws. Every now and then, it would peek up at its surroundings before quickly retreating back inside.

【Sprite: Water Blue】

[Quality: Rare]

[Talent: Perfect]

Personality: Timid

【Trait: Intimacy - Greatly increases the speed at which you form a bond with your contractor】

Luo Xing stopped in his tracks.

Perfect talent, rare quality, and comes with an extra trait.

Luo Xing memorized his number as one of his targets.

Then he went to the last area and found that there were only a pitiful twenty or so cats.

The reason is simple: Meowth's battle ability is the weakest among the three starter Pokémon. Its Grass-type has a narrow type advantage, making it difficult to fight in the early stages of the game, so few people would choose Meowth as their starter Pokémon.

Luo Xing looked at them one by one.

Ordinary. Ordinary. Still ordinary.

Suddenly, he noticed a small creature in the corner that was noticeably smaller than the other cats and had some wounds on its body.

Unlike other cats, this one didn't sleep in. Its eyes were fixed on Luo Xing warily, its ears were perked up, and its body was tense, ready to attack at any moment.

【Sprite: Meow Meow】

[Quality: Epic]

Talent: Terrible

[Type: Grass/Fighting]

[Personality: Stubborn]

[Special Note: Hidden Evolution Route - Martial Arts Cool Cat]

Luo Xing stared at the word "Epic" for a full three seconds.

An epic bloodline.

Dual attributes.

It can evolve into Fighting Cool Cat.

It's absolutely perfect, the only pity is that the talent is relatively lacking.

But he has the King Ball, so this is not a problem for him at all!

The little kitten seemed to realize that Luo Xing had been watching it for too long. Its fur stood on end, revealing its little tiger teeth, and it let out a low growl.

It's not even as big as Luo Xing's palm, but its bark is quite fierce.

Luo Xing's lips curled up slightly.

I've decided on you.

He crouched down and reached into the kitten's nest. The kitten scratched him without hesitation, leaving three claw marks on the back of Luo Xing's hand instantly.

"Hey, you've got quite a temper."

Luo Xing didn't back down. He took the cat out, held it in his arms, and turned to walk towards the registration desk.

Bai Qiuxue was organizing the roster backstage.

Seeing Luo Xing come out carrying a cat, she paused in her hand, raised her head, and moved her gaze from Luo Xing's face to the thin cat, then back to Luo Xing.

"You choose this one?"

"Um."

Bai Qiuxue put down the roster, leaned back in her chair, and crossed her arms in front of her chest.

"This Pokémon is problematic; it's extremely aggressive, completely unlike the typical Meowth personality."

She paused, her gaze falling on the wounds on Miaomiao's body.

I advise you to think carefully.

"No need, this is fine."

Luo Xing interrupted her.

Bai Qiuxue raised an eyebrow at his confident look, but didn't say anything more.

"Okay. Sign it, and once you sign, you can't change it."

Luo Xing picked up the pen and neatly wrote his name in the signature column.

The little kitten in his arms was still struggling and scratched his arm twice more.

After registration, Luo Xing was led to a small contract room next door.

The room was small, with a standard magic circle drawn in the middle and an instruction diagram on the wall—"Apprentice Mage Contract Process (Seventh Edition)".

Before forming a contract with a spirit, one must first complete the mage's awakening ritual.

To put it simply, it's about activating the beast-taming space within the body.

Luo Xing stood in the center of the magic circle, followed the steps on the instruction diagram, closed his eyes, and concentrated his mental energy at the center of his forehead.

At first, I didn't feel anything.

Luo Xing felt his consciousness being pulled into a pitch-black void.

The next instant, the void lit up.

A ball of light the size of a fist appeared in the center of his consciousness, its interior space like a small, transparent, empty room.

"Isn't this just an elf box?" Luo Xing thought to himself.

They look different, but are essentially the same: containers for storing, carrying, and switching between Pokémon.

He exited the space of consciousness and opened his eyes.

The magic circle beneath my feet emitted its last glimmer of light before slowly fading away.

[Awakening successful. Mage Rank: Apprentice.]

Luo Xing took out the King Ball from his backpack.

Luo Xing placed the little kitten in the center of the magic circle on the ground.

The little guy looked around, bared its teeth at Luo Xing, and held its tail straight up, as if to say, "Come here."

"Alright, alright, follow me, and I'll take you to fight every day from now on."

Luo Xing lifted the King Ball with one hand and gently tossed it towards Little Meow Meow.

The King Ball bounced in mid-air, and a golden light engulfed the little kitten completely.

The ball landed on the ground and wobbled from side to side.

Ding

Capture successful.

[King Ball effect triggered: Talent greatly increased.]

【Sprite: Meow Meow】

[Quality: Epic]

[Talent: Terrible → Outstanding]

[Type: Grass/Fighting]

Luo Xing looked at the talent rating on the panel, which jumped from "terrible" to "amazing," and his mouth almost stretched to his ears in a grin.

This start has far exceeded expectations.

Luo Xing put the ball back into the box and came out.

Su Mumu was standing in line, tiptoeing to look around. When she saw Luo Xing come out, she immediately waved to him.

"Luo Xing! Which sprite did you choose? Spark or Water Blue?"

"Meow meow".

Su Mumu's expression froze for a second.

"...Meow?"

She looked at Luo Xing as if he were an idiot.

"You chose a cat as your first pick?"

"What's wrong?"

"Are you crazy?!" Su Mumu stomped her feet in frustration, her voice almost rising in her throat.

"Next, Su Mumu!" Bai Qiuxue's voice came from inside.

Su Mumu stormed off towards the incubation room, fuming, "You wait, I'll pick a spark and beat you up."

"Trust me, choose number 35, Water Blue." Luo Xing didn't explain why, she just kindly reminded her, and it's unclear whether she heard it.

The thought of having to go to the infirmary later gave Luo Xing a headache.
