Warhammer 40: Saviors Emerging from the Bottom
Chapter 44 Reading Memories
The psychic energy emanating from Xiao Yi caused the temperature in the entire bedroom to drop several degrees. Gavin, who was already terrified, was covered in goosebumps. Just thinking about the various terrifying stories about psychics he had heard as a child made him tremble uncontrollably.
Gavin didn't know what awaited him next, and this unknown was what was most frightening.
The defiant expression on his face began to waver. Just as he hesitated whether to give in and beg for mercy, a sharp, piercing pain pierced through his skull and drilled deep into his brain.
"Ah, what are you going to do?!"
The instinct for survival made Gavin start to struggle, but it was all in vain; the rope, which was almost digging into his flesh, gave him no room to move his hands and feet.
He could only helplessly feel the increasingly intense throbbing pain in his brain, and wail helplessly.
The power of psychic energy turned Xiao Yi's pupils pure white. At this moment, he had invaded Gavin's soul and begun to try to read the other's memories.
The mice descending from their nests, the hunger of childhood, the pain of injury—countless fragments of memory flashed before Xiao Yi's eyes, utterly illogical. Finding what he wanted from this complex information was somewhat difficult.
Therefore, he could only increase his psionic energy output, attempting to break through the defenses outside the soul, reach the depths, and seize control of the memories.
Xiao Yi took a deep breath, and a dazzling light burst forth from his white pupils. The whites of his eyes gradually became covered with glowing net-like patterns, and countless spiritual energies transformed into probes that pierced through the chaotic surface and penetrated Gavin's core consciousness.
The surrounding fragments began to coalesce, forming a complete picture that stretched from childhood to the moment Xiao Yi reached out and touched his forehead. With the timeline, everything became simpler.
With a thought, Xiao Yi caused the scene in front of him to rewind, eventually settling on a corner at the edge of the camp.
Does it really work?
"What benefit would I get from cheating you with counterfeit goods?" An officer in military uniform, who looked quite aristocratic, took out a small trap device that Gavin had thrown away earlier from the box in his hand and examined it carefully.
"The miniature recognition system inside can select the best time to attack based on the target's condition, and this perfect potion is enough to kill thousands of Grookes."
The noble officer seemed to have thought of something; a strange smile appeared on his lips, his face flushed, and he showed an expression of ecstasy.
Gavin didn't dare interrupt the other person, and could only watch quietly as the guy in front of him went crazy.
The young nobleman sniffed the potion bottle before reluctantly placing it in Gavin's palm.
"If you successfully complete this mission, the Griffin family will grant you noble status and allow you and your family to reside in the Upper Nest. Remember, our only goal is survival!"
"Rest assured, Lord Byron, I will certainly not let you and Lord Lancelot down."
The noble officer nodded in satisfaction. "Go."
The scene shifts, and the already tragically dead Lester and Philip appear before Xiao Yi, along with two unfamiliar figures.
"Boss, is it really possible to succeed?"
"Don't worry, I've already tested it. A bucket of water with just one drop of this stuff is enough to keep us brothers lying on the ground for days."
Gavin took out a worn-out water jug and handed it to Lester beside him.
"Just a whiff is enough; don't get too close. Last time, I was so confused it took almost half a day to recover. This stuff smells fucking amazing. Now I finally understand why that arrogant pretty boy is so attached to it."
After taking a sniff, Lester's face lit up with a look of fascination.
"How about we keep some?"
"No, if the dosage isn't enough, you, me, and the three of you will all die. You should know how strong that guy is!"
"It's a pity that the flavor is too strong to mix into the food, otherwise we wouldn't have to go through all this trouble."
Gavin's face showed a hint of disappointment, but he quickly recovered and pointed to his two unfamiliar companions, saying, "Tomorrow, you two will be responsible for setting fire to the armory to attract attention."
"Don't linger too long. Once you see the armory on fire, leave immediately. The vehicle is ready and hidden in an abandoned building near the west gate of the camp."
"Once we succeed, we will immediately meet up with the two of you and give them no chance to react."
The two nodded to indicate that they understood the mission. Just as Gavin was about to continue explaining, Lester suddenly interrupted.
"Boss, why do you think the brigadier kidnapped that outsider? Could it be that he's taken a liking to him? I've heard that some nobles have peculiar tastes, preferring men who make them feel safe?"
Gavin glared fiercely at his subordinate, whose face was full of curiosity.
"Who cares? We just need to do our own jobs. Besides, how would I possibly know about this kind of thing?"
"What if they renege on their payment after the work is done?..."
"Why do you have so many questions? If it's none of your business, get the hell out of here."
The roar abruptly stopped, and the scene shifted to Gavin and two henchmen secretly sneaking into Xiao Yi's bedroom to set a trap.
When he saw the other party preparing to tamper with the seat under his buttocks, Xiao Yi's already gloomy face darkened even more.
He raised his hand to disconnect and punched Gavin in the face; Gavin's fragile nasal cavity couldn't withstand the violent impact and began to bleed.
Contrary to expectations, the other party did not scream in pain; instead, he simply lay on the ground and grinned foolishly.
When Xiao Yi used his psychic powers to forcibly read Gavin's memories, he caused some damage to Gavin's brain.
Gavin is now nothing but a shell clinging to life, which can be seen as punishment for his betrayal.
"Lancelot, what happened to that old man? Did he get corrupted by Chaos?"
Xiao Yi held up the bottle containing the pink potion and muttered to himself. He could clearly feel the subspace energy contained within it. It was like the whisper of a demon, constantly tempting creatures in the real universe to submit to it.
Even if Lancelot wasn't corrupted by the warp, the people around him might not be.
"I didn't expect the opportunity to come so quickly. I originally wanted to wait until the nest was completely stable before looking for an opportunity to make a move."
Xiao Yi got up, picked up Gavin who was lying on the ground grinning foolishly, and walked outside. B-59 followed behind him without saying a word, just like a real Casterland mech.
"Oh, right, I almost forgot about those two guys who were there to meet me. Keep an eye on them, I'll be back in a bit."
Xiao Yi dropped the traitor in his hand and disappeared from the spot. Not long after, two screams, which sounded like they were about to burst out of a corner of the camp, rang out.
