My older sister is a villainous rich girl.

Chapter 2 The Glory of the Young Lady

Wayne repeated, "Just the most energy-efficient approach?"

Battery? Or something else?

Eric, just as he had expected, took over the conversation and automatically explained the trick: "Like this... put in a little bit of magic... and then the value will appear."

Wayne was bewildered and amazed; had he really been transported to a magical world?

Speaking of which, when that maid grabbed me earlier, a faint green light flashed by, so it seems it wasn't just my imagination!

"Oh...I see."

Actually, he didn't know what was going on either, but he just nodded first.

He tentatively asked, "Mr. Eric, could I borrow this... detector for a while? I'd like my maids to be able to check on my health at any time until I recover."

Clever! I'm so incredibly clever!

This would allow them to observe how to use the magic-powered instruments while the chief physician instructs the other maids.

"Huh?" The chief physician looked bewildered for a moment. "There shouldn't be any magical talents among your personal maids."

Perhaps this young master hasn't gotten used to life in the capital yet. How can a magician's tools be given to commoners so casually? It's far too impolite.

Magic is not something commonplace; it is the cornerstone of the kingdom's survival. Even among the nobility, not everyone possesses magical talent. Among the commoners, if anyone is found to have the aptitude for any type of magic, even the lowest-ranking "commoner" can immediately achieve a leap in social class.

Although only one in a thousand commoners possesses this ability, and nine out of ten of them are descendants of nobles.

In war, powerful mages can easily turn the tide of battle and destroy seemingly invincible armies.

The kingdom's greatest victory in nearly a century was the Battle of Fog Moon thirty years ago, led by the previous Duke Winchester, which destroyed the neighboring Duchy of Milistan in just one month.

It is said that the battle turned the entire lower reaches of the Gres River red, and the corpses of Milstein soldiers piled up on the road leading to the enemy capital.

With this victory, the Kingdom of Saint Loens established itself as the most powerful nation in the Western Continent.

The reason the kingdom was able to so easily annihilate its enemies was entirely due to the extremely powerful combat capabilities of the previous Duke Winchester and his retinue of magic lords; the Duchy of Milstein was virtually invincible.

Upon returning home with such a remarkable victory, the previous Duke of Winder was immediately promoted to the highest rank of nobility by the king, his fiefdom was increased, and he was bestowed with countless treasures of gold and silver.

Indeed, military merit is the best path to advancement.

Thinking of this, he became even more respectful.

"If Master Wayne needs it, he may summon the family doctors at any time. I will arrange for my apprentice to come and examine you every morning until you are fully recovered."

Wayne waved him away, slightly annoyed.

We still need to find another way to find out the situation. This chief physician is too stingy; he won't even lend us a prop.

After Eric left, he was left alone in the room.

Wayne immediately got out of bed, stepped on the shoes placed beside the bed, and rummaged through drawers and cabinets to look for any clues left by his predecessor.

For example, things like diaries.

He also tried calling out in various gestures: "System!" "Grandpa!" "Grandma?" "Artificial intelligence?"

There was no response.

In the end, he only found a few travelogues on the bookshelf, with crooked and messy drawings on them, clearly children's books.

"Luckily, I have built-in writing and language, otherwise I would be doomed."

Still feeling a bit dizzy, Wayne picked up the travelogues and shuffled back under the covers, leaning against the headboard to read them.

The morning light streamed in through the enormous stained-glass window, casting its magnificent patterns on the carpet. A boy, like an angel, was reading with his eyes lowered, creating a beautiful and peaceful scene.

But this beautiful illusion was only fleeting and was soon shattered, returning us to a reality full of imperfections.

After reading for a while, Wayne snapped the travelogue shut.

"I'm so hungry, I can't watch anymore," Wayne complained, rubbing his uncomfortable stomach.

What's going on? Has no one thought to prepare their own breakfast?

He hesitated for a moment, but decided to go out and ask someone.

However, as Wayne approached the door and placed his hand on the handle, he heard conversations coming from outside through the crack in the door.

A strange female voice rang out from not far from the door: "What good luck! A bastard who appeared out of nowhere can get a place in Duke Wincher's mansion."

The two middle characters were emphasized, and the words were full of disdain and contempt.

Another female voice chimed in, "If he had any self-awareness, he should know to be ashamed of his status and not appear in front of others, lest he tarnish the reputation of the Wencher family."

Without hesitation, Wayne suddenly opened the door and saw the scene in the hallway.

Two short maids stood outside the door, carrying cleaning supplies, seemingly having just finished cleaning and passing by.

When Wayne caught them in the act, the slightly younger woman immediately became uneasy, while her middle-aged maid looked completely unconcerned.

"Young Master Wayne, why don't you rest a little longer? The Duke's mansion is so big, you might get lost," the older maid said with a forced smile.

Wayne frowned and said, "I'm hungry. Get some food over here."

It seems there's something wrong with the identity of this body; he's not an ordinary young nobleman, otherwise ordinary servants would never dare to speak to him like this.

"You haven't had breakfast yet?" the older maid asked with concern. "But it's already past breakfast time. Eating at the wrong time is probably not in accordance with aristocratic etiquette..."

She deliberately emphasized the word "etiquette," as if afraid Wayne wouldn't understand her implied meaning.

Wayne clicked his tongue. An ordinary maid had no reason to make things difficult for him, a noble young master... no, perhaps she represented the will of another master.

"There might be people in this mansion who don't like my presence," Wayne realized.

This is truly a sinister fact.

After assessing the situation, Wayne decisively decided to keep a low profile.

"Oh, I see..." He sighed, making a perfectly timed expression that was slightly dissatisfied yet couldn't hide his self-pity, and with his head down, he prepared to return to his room.

"Wayne!"

A clear shout suddenly rang out from around the corner.

The two maids' expressions changed, and before they could do anything else, they immediately bowed ninety degrees to the other end of the corridor: "Good morning, Miss."

At the end of the red carpet, a slender figure came into view.

The morning sunlight slanted into the mansion, and after being refracted by the glass and metal decorations, it diffused into every part of the interior, making the corridor space very bright.

Fine dust motes danced in the air, yet bathed in light, the person's beauty shone even brighter than the sun.
