The Last Sentinel

Chapter 77 John Darwin

On the deck of a futuristic space carrier, rows of ancient wooden sailboats are neatly arranged, creating an indescribable sense of déjà vu.

This same scene was also captured on camera by the senior members of the Human Alliance.

In the underground bunker, a familiar-looking, obese, dark figure was staring at the eight hundred wooden boats neatly arranged on the deck of the Kunpeng space carrier.

A virtual projection stood beside him with its hands behind its back, watching the eight hundred wooden boats together with the shadowy figure.

The phantom was two meters tall, with hands that reached past its knees. It had a human body and a gorilla's face. If Ye Feng were here, he would definitely blush like a teenager.

Charles Darwin.

The dark figure standing next to Charlie was none other than Hughes Thompson, the Speaker of the Human Alliance.

Dr. Hughes looked at the wooden boats on the deck, his expression undisguised mockery. "The Sentinels have been driven mad. They've created this bunch of wooden boats and divided their 8,000-strong combat force into 800 squads, assigning 800 complete laymen who don't even know what warfare is to command them. Does he think this is child's play? They'll probably be surrounded and annihilated by the Neanderthal army the moment they cross the Gate of Origin!"

Unlike Dr. Hughes's nonchalant demeanor, Charlie Darwin stared at the screen with a serious expression and said, "Don't underestimate the Sentinels, especially when you don't understand their tactics. You should pay more attention to them. Whether it's a wooden boat, eight thousand men divided into eight hundred teams, or an amateur commanding an expert, these could all be smokescreens put out by the Sentinels."

"A smoke bomb?" Dr. Hughes chuckled. "Young Master, I don't quite understand what you mean. Sentinel has already revealed almost all of his trump cards. Perfect City has directly disabled his mechs, psychic powers, and Earthshatter summons. What does he have left? He has nothing!"

Charlie stared intently into Dr. Hughes's eyes, the crimson flames burning intensely, piercing straight into Hughes's heart.

Dr. Hughes realized he had misspoke and quickly said, "Young Master is right, it's always good to be cautious. Or, how about we place some of our own people on these ships and have them kill those so-called player captains directly, thus preventing the Sentinels' plan from taking place?"

Charlie closed his eyes. "You don't think that killing these eight hundred ordinary people will ruin the Sentinels' plan, do you? I've already told you, until we figure out the Sentinels' true purpose, everything they do is a smokescreen. We can't trust them or target them."

Dr. Hughes said, "Then, then we'll do nothing?"

Charlie said, "The more you do, the more mistakes you make, and the more mistakes you make, the more you do. When you're facing a top player like Sentinel, you can't be proactive. You have to be passive, let him make the first move and get into the game first. You have to be patient."

Dr. Hughes looked at Charlie, who was completely different from his usual arrogant and domineering self, and felt a little uncomfortable, but he didn't dare to say a word against it.

From a human perspective, in the Battle of Tokyo, Charles Darwin lost to the Sentinels.

However, from the perspective of the Perfect City, they believe that Charlie did not lose because the battle took place on the surface, which is the home ground of the original will of Homo sapiens. If the Sentinels could not kill Charlie on their home ground and even let Charlie escape, then the Sentinels lost!

If it were on their home turf in Perfect City, the Neanderthals firmly believed that Charlie could kill the Sentinel on the spot!

Charles Darwin was not neglected or ignored upon his return to the Perfect City.

On the contrary, Charlie ushered in his moment of glory. Because of his bravery and outstanding performance in the battle against the Sentinels, Charlie has now become the front-line commander-in-chief against the Homo sapiens alliance. He is one of the few Neanderthals who has real power and controls the armed forces.

Dr. Hughes poured himself a cup of coffee and said calmly, "Speaking of which, young master Charlie, we absolutely cannot lose this battle against Perfect City!"

"The Neanderthals lost; they will lose their homeland and face extinction."

"And if I lose, I will face investigation and trial."

"The contradictions within the Human Alliance are very sharp right now. The younger generation is becoming increasingly radical, especially with Zhao Donglai, the captain of the Kunpeng, this time. That kid poses a great threat to me."

Charlie glanced at Dr. Hughes. "A big threat? What threat could a junior like him pose to you?"

Hughes took out a photograph and handed it to Charlie. "Take a look at this."

The photo is an old-fashioned color photograph, in which a huge warship sails across the starry sky, and a family of three is celebrating on the deck.

A middle-aged man in a white captain's uniform is holding a boy with a broad smile, while a woman beside him looks on with happiness.

Charlie said, "I recognize this man in military uniform. He's Lin Qilin, the captain of the Kirin, a traitor from Star Wars 1999."

Dr. Hughes said, "That's right. I investigated the boy Lin Qilin was holding after Star Wars ended in 1999. Lin Qilin's wife had died, but his son seemed to have vanished into thin air without a trace."

Charlie raised an eyebrow. "The fact that the Human Alliance's powerful dominance on the surface couldn't investigate a child is strange."

"That's right," Dr. Hughes said. "There's only one answer: there are high-ranking figures within the Human Alliance protecting this child. Only interference among the higher-ups could have prevented my investigation from yielding any results."

"Later, after careful observation, I found Zhao Donglai's appearance to be very suspicious."

"Before the Sentinels appeared, Zhao Donglai was arguably the fastest-rising Eastern superhuman."

"He first went on a polar adventure by chance, accidentally rescued combat personnel and joined the Human Alliance. Later, he met the captain of the hero-level containment team [Great Wall Watch], the Watcher Elder, and became the Watcher's disciple. He quickly accumulated experience in various positions and was promoted continuously. Everyone who met Zhao Donglai said that he was an outstanding genius of the Human Alliance. Apart from his six-dimensional attributes being slightly lower than A-level, his emotional intelligence was top-notch."

"By chance, I had someone collect a hair from Zhao Donglai and conducted a genetic comparison."

"And guess what I found?"

Charlie held up the photo. "Zhao Donglai is this boy."

Hughes nodded. "That's right, his surname isn't Zhao at all. His surname should be Lin. He's the only son of the captain of the Qilin!"

Charlie laughed. "The son of my enemy has come to seek revenge. Ten years of grudges have been settled today! This is very much in line with the revenge culture of the Great Xia Dynasty in the East."

Hughes looked at Charlie earnestly, "So, sir, we absolutely cannot lose this time. If Perfect City fails to kill the Sentinel and lets him return to the ground, our fate will be annihilation. We must kill the Sentinel completely in this battle and cut off Zhao Donglai's most powerful hand. Next, I will use Perfect City's defeat to put pressure on Zhao Donglai and eventually kill him."

Charlie Darwin said calmly, "Whether or not to kill the Sentinels is not up to me. I am only responsible for the front-line command to deal with the first wave of the Sentinels' invasion. The main rhythm of the subsequent battle will be handled by John Darwin, the next successor of the Lord of Perfect City."

Hughes was taken aback. "John Darwin? He's your...?"

"My brother." Charlie lowered his head, revealing sharp, thick teeth. "The true master of Perfect City is not like me, a hybrid of ape and human. He is a perfect and powerful being with both Neanderthal and Sabitian bloodlines. You can't imagine the humility I felt the moment I saw my brother. It was indescribable. Even when I was defeated by the Sentinels, I never felt like that..."

Hughes wanted to say something more, but Charlie seemed to have lost interest in the conversation. He turned and walked a few steps away, disappearing without a trace.
