From collapsing rooftop to poverty alleviation village chief
Chapter 45 Spending the Night at Eagle Rock, Sharing a Tent
The weather in Qiongyu Village is like a child's face, unpredictable. Just a moment ago it was sunny and clear, but now it's pouring rain.
Lin Ye and Su Yun walked hand in hand through the mountains with difficulty.
This isn't some ambiguous romance; they're holding hands so they won't get separated in the heavy rain where visibility is poor.
Neither of them had any romantic thoughts in their minds; all they wanted was to find shelter from the rain as quickly as possible.
"Village Chief Lin, the woods to the west are dense and can provide shelter from the rain."
Su Yun gripped Lin Ye's hand tightly and shouted loudly.
The woman's hair was soaked and clung to her face. She held onto Lin Ye with one hand and gripped the mountain wall beside her with the other. Lin Ye reached out and brushed the wet hair that was obscuring her vision from her face, and shouted:
"Okay, let's go over there!"
The two supported each other as they arrived at the dense forest, where there were several large trees that would take several people to encircle. Their canopies were close together, leaving only small gaps, which served as natural rain shelters.
The rain was so heavy that some raindrops kept falling through the gaps in the tree canopy, but it was still much better than being soaked by the downpour earlier.
Lin Ye released Su Yun's hand and looked at her. Her soaked T-shirt clung tightly to her body, vaguely revealing her curvaceous figure. Her jeans were soggy, and water was still dripping from the cuffs.
Just then, Su Yun turned her head and looked at him, her gaze lingering on Lin Ye's clothes that clung tightly to his chest. The two of them tacitly looked away, and Lin Ye said:
"Teacher Su, it's raining so hard now, and it's getting dark. For safety's sake, I suggest we go down the mountain tomorrow. What do you think?"
Su Yun agreed, "Village Chief Lin is right, but we're all soaked now, so it might not be easy for us to get through the night."
Lin Ye put his backpack on a patch of ground that wasn't too wet, took out a makeshift tent, and Su Yun leaned over to take a look.
The backpack also contained bracken cakes, a thin blanket, and even two sets of clothes.
"Village Chief Lin, did you know it was going to rain?" Su Yun was surprised.
Lin Ye said, "I don't know, but things on the mountain are hard to predict, so I've taken precautions."
Su Yun looked at the various items in his backpack, which were almost comparable to those of a professional wilderness survival player. This was more than just an extra layer of preparation.
She looked at Lin Ye again, unable to reconcile the rumored spoiled and helpless superstar with the man in front of her.
The more I look at this person, the less I can understand them.
Lin Ye started setting up the tent, and Su Yun got up to help. Both of them were very capable and quickly set up the tent.
The tent was neither too big nor too small; two people could barely sleep inside. However, the problem was that both of their clothes were soaked through, and they could easily get sick if they didn't change them.
Lin Ye took out a shirt, a pair of trousers, and a towel. "Teacher Su, please go inside and change out of your wet clothes."
"Thank you, Village Chief Lin." Su Yun saw two sets of clean clothes in the backpack, so she didn't stand on ceremony. She took the clothes and towel and went into the tent, zipping it up from the inside.
Lin Ye stood outside with his back turned. After a moment, Su Yun emerged from the tent, already wearing Lin Ye's shirt and pants.
However, the shirt was too long, the hem reaching her thighs, making her appear petite and charming, but less cold and capable.
Su Yun dried her long, wet hair with a towel and said to Lin Ye, "Village Chief Lin, you should go inside and change your clothes too."
Lin Ye pointed to the backpack, "There's food inside. Teacher Su can eat something if she's hungry."
"Okay," Su Yun replied, squatting down to take out a fern cake from her backpack and starting to eat it.
Her high ponytail was undone, and her long, wet hair fell smoothly over her shoulders as she nibbled on a biscuit, like a wet, furry little squirrel.
Lin Ye couldn't help but smile, only then realizing that Su Yun was a girl.
He took another set of clean clothes and crawled into the tent. He took off his soaking wet clothes and used the towel that Su Yun had just used to wipe his body.
The towel carried a faint scent, not the legendary woman's fragrance, but the smell of rain and mud.
In these majestic mountains, everyone, no matter who they are, will be imbued with the spirit of the mountains.
After changing his clothes, Lin Ye saw a woman's T-shirt and jeans neatly folded in the corner of the tent, with a small garment underneath, and a small steel ring on the exposed half of the circular bra.
Lin Ye looked away. His clothes were completely soaked, so he naturally had to take them all off to feel comfortable. He did the same.
He folded the clothes he had taken off, tucked his underwear inside his outer garment, and placed it next to Su Yun's clothes.
The tent wasn't big, so the clothes we took off couldn't take up too much space.
Lin Ye crawled out of the tent and saw Su Yun with half a fern cake in her mouth, using a broken branch as a broom to sweep the ground around the tent clean.
Seeing Lin Ye come out, Su Yun swallowed half a pancake. "If the area is cleaner, there will be fewer bugs. Village Chief Lin, you should eat something too."
Lin Ye said okay, took a piece of fern cake from his backpack, poured water from the lid of his travel bottle, and handed it to Su Yun.
Su Yun asked, "Is there enough water? If the rain doesn't stop, we might have to stay in the mountains for more than one night."
Lin Ye said, "If all else fails, how about we collect some rainwater later?"
Su Yun thought for a moment, "That works too."
The two stopped talking and squatted down together to eat biscuits and drink water, sharing a cup lid and taking sips from each other.
After finishing the simple dinner, Lin Ye filled the kettle with rainwater. By then, it was completely dark. Lin Ye looked around and felt a little worried.
"Won't there be snakes?"
Su Yun broke off another tree branch and handed it to Lin Ye, saying, "It's hard to say, but take it. It'll be good to have a weapon if anything happens."
Lin Ye was speechless. "There really are snakes?"
Su Yun chuckled. "How could there be no snakes in the mountains?"
Her smile was refreshing and natural, sweet and clean, making her look like an innocent and lovely little girl.
Lin Ye laughed too, "So Teacher Su isn't that serious after all."
Su Yun brushed a strand of slightly damp hair from her ear. "This is the first time someone has ever called me serious."
Lin Ye thought to himself, "Maybe you're just being serious with me, though I don't know why."
The two were silent for a moment. After a while, Lin Ye said, "It's getting colder and colder. Let's go into the tent and rest early."
Su Yun nodded and went into the tent with Lin Ye.
The tent wasn't very big, and the two of them inevitably ended up touching as soon as they entered.
Lin Ye's arm brushed against something soft, and he said apologetically, "I'm sorry, Teacher Su, why don't you sleep in the tent and I'll go outside?"
Su Yun stopped him, "The temperature in the mountains is very low at night, you'll freeze. You're the village chief, if anyone should go out to sleep, it should be me."
They were both straightforward people, and after hearing this, they understood that the other person wouldn't mind, so they lay down together.
To avoid excessive physical contact, the two tacitly stood back to back.
Lin Ye only brought a thin blanket, which wasn't enough to cover both of them. It was raining outside, and a chill was rising from the ground.
They only covered half of their bodies with the blankets, and the more they slept, the colder they felt.
Lin Ye turned around, about to speak, when Su Yun also turned around, facing Lin Ye, curling up into a ball, and took the initiative to get closer to Lin Ye's arms.
