The Wizard: Starting with Infinite Part-Time Jobs

Chapter 17 Special Talents and Strange Phenomena

"Aiden, is this your special talent? How did you do it?" Ms. Ollie asked, her eyes fixed on Aiden and the Mist Deer.

She had also raised this deer for many years. However, she could never have the same close contact and communication with it as Aiden; their relationship was more that of a feeder and a caretaker.

Aiden's heart skipped a beat, and a fine layer of sweat instantly appeared on his forehead.

He then realized that his talent for taming beasts was indeed somewhat extraordinary.

He put on a simple, honest smile and said, "Ms. Ollie, I've always had a natural affinity for small animals. I haven't thought about it too much, but I can generally sense their behavior and what they're trying to express."

"Is this a special talent? What is a special talent?" Aiden blinked and asked, feigning curiosity.

He knew that being vague was pointless and would only make him seem like he had some huge secret, so it was better to tell the whole story to make it seem real.

Ms. Ollie raised an eyebrow slightly, a faint smile playing on her lips, and said, "Then you might have a special talent for communicating with living beings."

She paused slightly, her gaze sweeping over Aiden, before adding, "Do you know the Elven race? They are the race that lives in the Elven plane. Their special talent—the Elven Heart—allows them to have an extremely high affinity with living beings."

"I've heard a little about it," Aiden nodded quickly.

"This kind of talent wouldn't be anything special for an elf, but it's quite remarkable for a human. I think it will be of great help to your path as a wizard, something you'll need to think about in the future," Ms. Ollie said calmly.

Clearly, she had confirmed that Aiden was the bearer of the special talent.

"As for special talents, strictly speaking, they are a kind of rune, a kind of branding rune."

"Your special talent leans towards support and doesn't directly increase combat power. Some people's talents might be biased towards a certain attribute, increasing the power of their spells or allowing them to unleash spells beyond their own limits."

"Special talents come in many forms; you can think of them as innate auxiliary means," Ms. Ollie continued. "However, for us wizards, the mastery of knowledge is more important. Branding runes can be done later in life based on one's own knowledge, and it won't be inferior to those who are born with special talents."

Aiden pondered for a moment, then said, "I understand, Ms. Ollie. This special talent is a gift from heaven. Without further development, it's nothing special. Only by arming oneself with knowledge can one go further."

"That's right, that's exactly what I mean. But since you have a special talent, would you like me to report it for you?" Ms. Ollie's smile disappeared, replaced by a serious expression. She continued, "As a holder of a special talent, you will receive more attention when you enter the wizard ship and go to the wizarding world. Perhaps a wizard will be willing to guide you."

"However, there are also some risks. There are some cunning wizards in the wizarding world who will target those wizarding seeds with special talents and try to brand and strip away their talents." Ms. Ollie's face showed a worried expression.

"Thank you for letting me know. Please keep this a secret, Ms. Ollie," Aiden said, shaking his head.

He leaned forward slightly, performed a wizard's salute, and crossed his hands in front of his chest as a gesture of thanks.

Aiden knew the importance of keeping a low profile; the one who survives to the end is the winner.

He's too weak right now. His cheat ability is his professional skill panel, which needs to be developed. It's best to be careful in everything.

"Then I'll keep it a secret for you, and pretend I don't know anything," Ms. Ollie waved her hand.

She walked to the door, glanced back at Aiden, then pushed the door open and left.

For the next week, Aiden studied anatomy.

A faint stench of decay permeated the laboratory; it was the smell emanating from the carcass of the fog-walking deer.

Aiden's hands were covered in deer blood, and his fingers had turned white and wrinkled from being soaked in blood and tissue fluid for a long time.

It took him several days to dissect the deer and learn about the anatomy of deer.

Although these are all recorded in books and one can determine the location of a deer's organs based on common sense, they are all just theoretical compared to practical application.

"Ms. Ollie, I need to go home and digest my work. I've finished all the other tasks," Aiden said goodbye to Ms. Ollie as he packed up his dissection tools.

He was exhausted. He had been having some trouble processing his emotions these past few days.

"I can only take better care of its children," Aiden murmured to himself, as if speaking to himself or making a promise to the dead Mist Deer.

On his way home, as darkness fell, Aiden's state of mind underwent some subtle changes.

"Everything serves knowledge. Like my 'Encyclopedia of Continental Biology' and 'Basic Animal Behavior,' they are all knowledge I possess. Because of this knowledge, I can become the best acrobat and find excellent part-time work in this experimental area." Aiden's steps were somewhat heavy. He paused, then continued, "Anatomy will also be my knowledge in the future; it's something I must master."

He was very glad that he had come to work in Ms. Ollie's laboratory.

According to her, this "Anatomy" is a course.

Once you join a wizarding organization, you need to spend points and resources to learn. Now that someone is willing to guide you step by step without charging extra, it's already very good.

"At the very least, even Bondi and Galatea haven't been able to access 'Anatomy' yet," Aiden thought to himself, his steps becoming lighter.

"Brother Aiden, wait for me." Quillins' voice came from behind, sounding particularly clear in the quiet night.

Aiden stopped, turned around, and waved at him. "Quillins, it's been a while. How have you been?"

He sized up the freckled Quillins.

They noticed that the latter was thinner than before, and his clothes hung loosely on his body.

Aiden couldn't help but feel a little strange, his eyes filled with doubt.

Aiden patted Quillins on the shoulder, his hand lingering on it for a moment. "Haven't you gotten used to Mr. Ironbeard's workload yet?"

"I've analyzed all the organisms in his lab with you in detail. Just follow my instructions, and you'll definitely be able to handle this job."

Aiden knew that Quillins was a hardworking, down-to-earth guy who also believed in himself.

"I'm doing well lately. Thanks to you, Brother Aiden, I've been taking good care of the 30 creatures in Mr. Ironbeard's lab," Quillins said with a grin, his smile a little shy.

However, Quillins seemed to want to say something but stopped himself; his lips moved, but he didn't say anything.

"But what?" Aiden asked, puzzled, his brows furrowing slightly.

He noticed that as Quillins spoke, he pulled his sleeves flat, completely covering his bare arms, his movements somewhat flustered, as if afraid of having some secret discovered.
