The Wizard: Starting with Infinite Part-Time Jobs

Chapter 73 Dean Mephisto, Non-Competition Agreement

Aiden's eyes sparkled with surprise.

After riding for more than 10 seconds, the two arrived in front of a room that looked like a large single-level apartment.

The door to the room was ajar, and you could see the light coming through the crack.

Anne turned to the side, her face tense, and said cautiously, "Junior Brother Aiden, we've arrived. You must be polite later."

Aiden nodded vigorously, thinking to himself, "Dean Mephisto is a veteran first-ring wizard, so I definitely have to be polite."

He instinctively straightened his back.

Soon, the two entered the room one after the other.

There, an elderly man with a white beard, dressed in a white robe, was sitting in a chair, writing something with his head down, the quill pen in his hand moving quickly across the paper.

As if sensing Aiden and Annie's arrival, he stopped what he was doing, slowly raised his head, and looked at Aiden. His eyes were deep and calm, as if they held endless wisdom.

Aiden felt a shiver run through him, and his body involuntarily tensed up.

"This Dean Mephisto is incredibly strong, stronger than any wizard he has ever seen, and much stronger than Sir Richard."

This was Aiden's intuition; he felt his heart beat faster.

"Little one, don't be nervous. Are you the newcomer from the continent of Olivia?" Dean Mephisto spoke up, revealing a kind smile.

Then, his eyes fell on the two chairs on the ground.

The chair seemed to come alive; it wobbled a little, then bounced up to Aiden and Annie's bottoms, playfully poking Aiden's thigh as if urging him to sit down quickly.

Aiden was startled by the sudden movement of the chair and jerked his body away.

He quickly realized what was happening and sat down, feeling flattered. After settling in, he cleared his throat and said earnestly, "Yes, my name is Aiden, and I am honored to join the Rune Courtyard organization."

"Yes, from now on, Rune Courtyard will be your home." Dean Mephisto nodded with a smile, his smile making people feel particularly warm.

Then, he looked at Annie beside him with a hint of approval on his face and said, "Little Annie, well done. Has everything gone smoothly so far? This is your first time guiding a newcomer, but I think it'll be a long time before you can do it again."

Dean Mephisto said, raising his eyebrows slightly as he jokingly remarked.

"Yeah, it went pretty smoothly, hehe." Annie nodded vigorously with a happy smile on her face.

Dean Mephisto then looked at Aiden, his smile fading and his expression turning serious. He said, "Little guy, I've reviewed your information. Although your initial mental strength isn't high, I want to tell you not to be discouraged."

"Our Rune Courtyard doesn't have high requirements for combat strength, so no one will discriminate against you or make things difficult for you because of that."

Aiden nodded seriously, his expression resolute.

He discovered that his initial mental strength was like a stain, always following his records.

However, he didn't care. He had a class panel, and he would definitely pursue a multi-class synergy in the future, not just relying on the wizard class.

Moreover, although his initial mental strength was not high, he had heard that there were drugs in the wizarding world that could improve mental strength.

Although he started from a low point, he believed he would be able to make up for it sooner or later!

Thinking of this, Aiden smiled confidently.

"Well, once you've decided on the meditation method you want to practice, you can go and receive the specific meditation method. Secondly, as a new member, you have the right to stay near the Wizard Tower to cultivate and study until you are 60 years old. If you haven't broken through to become a formal wizard by the time you're 60, then you'll probably have to cultivate in a more distant place. I think Annie has already explained all of this to you." Dean Mephisto placed his hands on the table and emphasized earnestly.

"Of course, I already introduced these things to Junior Brother Aiden on the way here," Annie nodded, her face serious.

Aiden nodded as well.

As a wizard seed, he is entitled to free courses and education as a perk.

If you reach a certain age and haven't made a breakthrough, then if you want to stay in the organization, there's only one way: live in the outer area and do odd jobs for the organization.

Although the hope of becoming a wizard in this lifetime is slim, at least I am living among wizards and wizard apprentices, which is convenient for both safety and the development of future generations.

For example, Anne.

Her parents were wizarding apprentices who, after failing to advance and completely withdrawing from the core area, opened a small shop selling wizarding mediums in the island's shopping street.

Providing some services to wizard seeds is also a way of contributing to the Runeyard organization.

"Well, if there are no problems, sign this. It's a non-compete agreement." Dean Mephisto looked at Aiden.

Then a piece of paper floated over, like a light butterfly, and a quill pen followed, landing steadily in front of Aiden.

The so-called non-compete agreement means that Aiden can only join Rune Courtyard for the next 10 years.

Even if they leave, they cannot join other wizarding organizations, at least not for the next 10 years.

"No problem." Aiden smiled confidently and reached out to firmly grasp the quill pen.

On the way here, he was still somewhat conflicted, worried that the non-compete agreement would limit his career development.

However, after learning about the runes on Annie, he felt it was necessary for him to stay in the organization, especially since the atmosphere there was quite good.

Whether it was the seemingly unfathomable white-bearded dean or the other wizard seeds, they all seemed quite friendly.

At least he could stay put and develop slowly.

Aiden signed the non-compete agreement without hesitation.

Seeing Aiden sign the document without any hesitation, Dean Mephisto's wrinkles smoothed out, and he nodded with a smile.

Anne happily added, "Alright, Junior Brother Aiden, now we're family."

As she spoke, she gently patted Aiden's shoulder.

Aiden smiled and said, "You're right, I hope we're family. By the way, Dean, may I ask you a question?"

He leaned forward, appearing very focused.

"Of course, child, you can ask me anything you want to know. I think with my knowledge, I can most likely give you a satisfactory answer," Dean Mephisto said earnestly.

"Dean, why are we called the Ancient Studies School? Is it because of our runic literature?" Aiden asked curiously, his eyes wide open, full of curiosity.

Dean Mephisto waved his hand gently and said with a smile, "Of course not, child. This Rune Courtyard is just a name."

He paused, then continued, "Among all the schools of thought in the wizarding world, our Ancient Studies School comprises nearly ten wizarding organizations. Our high-ranking members also exchange ideas regularly. Although we are weak, we believe that our Ancient Studies School has a bright future, and please believe that."

His voice was loud and clear, carrying an undeniable firmness.

Aiden listened intently, his ears perked up.

"As everyone knows, our wizarding system is like a glass cannon. Our magic is incredibly powerful, and we can cast spells from a distance, giving us a huge advantage when facing enemies."

"I know, Dean," Aiden nodded.

"The only difficulty lies in the aiming method of witchcraft. No matter how powerful the witchcraft is, if it cannot effectively hit the target, it is all castles in the air. The advancement of all witches is accompanied by an assessment of the accuracy of their witchcraft. Only when the accuracy reaches 80% and at the maximum range can one be called a qualified witch."

"That's true." Aiden nodded.

"Therefore, the most important thing is the method of aiming the magic," Dean Mephisto said earnestly.

"I think you know about the three historical breakthroughs in the wizarding world. The first breakthrough was 20,000 years ago, when a wizarding sage proposed a method of spell aiming guided by sight and hearing. This gave wizards an advantage when dealing with a wide variety of enemies and greatly improved the accuracy of their spellcasting."

Aiden nodded. "Yes, I know that."
