Restoring cultural relics: Starting with the crying Tang Dynasty figurines
Chapter 60: Don't Pick Them Randomly
This feeling made him feel at ease!
Su Yuan didn't think too much about it. He put away the sword, tucked the bronze mirror into his pocket, got up and left the office, but this time he locked the door.
As I was going downstairs, I ran into Qian Weidong in the lobby. He was carrying his car keys, and I quickly asked:
"Old Qian, are you going out?"
"Um, I'm going to town to buy some things, do you want to come?"
Su Yuan thought for a moment: "Go!"
The two got into the van, and Qian Weidong started the engine and drove out of the yard.
Qian Weidong didn't talk much today, and Su Yuan was even quieter. The only thing on in the car was the radio, playing a storytelling program.
Upon arriving in town, Qian Weidong parked the car by the roadside, got out and bought a pack of cigarettes, and also bought two bottles of water, giving one to Su Yuan.
He told him not to get out of the car and to just stay there and watch. Su Yuan gave the slip of paper containing the materials to Qian Weidong and told him to buy them. He sat in the car and watched the car waiting.
About twenty minutes later, Qian Weidong returned carrying two more plastic bags, one of which contained the things he needed.
Another item was some daily necessities. As Qian Weidong got into the car, he suddenly said:
"Don't take off that ring unless you have to."
Su Yuan looked at him with a puzzled expression, but Qian Weidong had already started the car and was staring at the road ahead, not looking at him.
"I once heard an older person mention that once you start wearing certain personal items from the Su family, you shouldn't take them off!"
Su Yuan looked at the ring on his hand and said:
"I've already picked them."
"Will it feel the same when you put it back on?"
Su Yuan thought for a moment:
"It's not quite the same, but I don't feel there's anything wrong with it."
Qian Weidong didn't say anything more.
The car drove back to the repair center and parked in the yard. The black sedan was no longer there.
Su Yuan got out of the car, and Qian Weidong went to settle the daily necessities he had bought. When he carried the materials to the second-floor corridor, he heard people talking, which came from Zhang Weiyi's office.
The door was closed, so it was impossible to hear what was being said inside. However, one of the voices could be identified as Zhang Weiyi, and the other voice was deeper and had a slightly official tone.
Su Yuan vaguely heard a sentence that something couldn't be kept... He didn't think much of it or stop listening, and went straight back to his office and closed the door.
Su Yuan took out a bronze mirror, looked at it, and said:
"Is there something you want to tell me?"
The light in the bronze mirror flickered, but there was no shadow. Su Yuan stared at the bronze mirror for a few seconds, but the light only flickered again before slowly dimming and returning to its normal brightness.
That's... nothing else?
Su Yuan rubbed his temples and had no choice but to put away the bronze mirror. He picked up his toolbox and went to the storeroom to organize it, as it was easier to do so there.
There were a few scraps of silk left over from repairing paintings and calligraphy, all of different sizes. Su Yuan neatly folded them and pressed them between the pages of a book, so they could be used again later.
There was still a little bit of the aging agent left, so he added some water and shook it. The color became much lighter!
This bottle will need to be mixed again when it's finished.
Take out all the hammers and other tools, clean the bottom of the box, put all the tools and materials back, and clean the workbench.
After tidying up his tools, Su Yuan stood in front of the worktable for a while, lost in thought.
There's nothing to fix, and no non-human beings are bothering him. Things have been going too smoothly lately, and suddenly having so much free time makes him feel a little uneasy!
Recently, he has been receiving one item after another, from a guqin (a seven-stringed zither) to a porcelain pillow, from a bronze tripod to those four Song Dynasty paintings, which has kept him very busy.
Now that I suddenly have free time, I feel like something is missing.
Su Yuan glanced at A Wu and the surroundings, then picked up his toolbox and left the warehouse, standing in the corridor for a short while.
The door to Zhang Weiyi's office was still closed, and the sounds of people talking inside had stopped!
He put his toolbox in the office and went downstairs. As he stepped out of the automatic door, the sunshine outside was lovely and warm.
Su Yuan found a place to light a cigarette. When he was halfway through smoking, the black sedan drove towards his workplace from outside and stopped in the yard.
Han Zhengming got out of the car!
He didn't see Su Yuan and went straight through the automatic door. Su Yuan, standing outside, saw him walk towards the stairwell and go upstairs through the glass door.
Su Yuan stubbed out his cigarette and threw it in the trash can, without following him inside.
He didn't want to go upstairs right now, so he stood outside for a while longer.
Seeing Qian Weidong's bread truck still parked there, with a crack in the window, Su Yuan walked over and glanced inside. There was nothing on the seats!
He remembered the old piece of paper he had found under his seat, but Su Yuan couldn't figure out what it depicted.
I went back into the building and went up to the second floor.
Han Zhengming went to some office, but Zhang Weiyi's door was still closed.
Su Yuan returned to his office, closed the door, took out his phone, and sent a message to his mother:
"Mom, besides the bronze mirror and the three keys, did Great-Grandpa leave anything else behind? Like a piece of paper with a drawing on it?"
After waiting for about ten minutes, his mother replied:
"Never heard of it, and your dad doesn't remember it either. What's wrong?"
Su Yuan typed a few words and then deleted them, finally replying with only one sentence:
"It's nothing, just asking casually."
Someone knocked on the door. Su Yuan opened the door and saw Lin Xi standing at the door, holding a document in her hand.
"Su Yuan, the repair report for this month is due. Please fill in any missing parts."
"Okay, I'll write it today."
Lin Xi didn't leave; she stood hesitating at the door. Su Yuan didn't dare ask, but just glanced at her.
"Director Han just contacted me and asked me for the old warehouse's... register."
After listening to Lin Xi's explanation, Su Yuan asked in a low voice:
"Did you...give it to me?"
"Director Zhang said it was okay to give it to me, so I did. Han Zhengming looked through it for a while and then asked several questions..."
"What did you ask?"
"Ask about the wooden box in the third section... some of your restoration reports, and also ask who usually goes into the Tang Dynasty figurine warehouse."
Su Yuan didn't reply.
"I told him the truth, that you were the one who did the repairs, and that you often go to see the Tang Dynasty terracotta warriors."
Lin Xi stared at him worriedly and said, "Is everything alright?"
"No, I'll give it to you as soon as I finish writing the report."
Lin Xi hummed in agreement, closed the door, and left. Su Yuan sat in the chair, touching the jade ring on his finger.
Han Zhengming inquired about these things one by one; he was truly a patient person!
Su Yuan took out the bronze mirror and placed it on the table, looking at the points of light inside. The old man's shadow didn't appear today; it stayed with the other shadows.
Su Yuan stared at the mirror for a long time, feeling dejected, when he suddenly realized something!
The mirror reflected not only his own face but also the wall behind him.
There was an old calendar hanging on the wall, which was given to him when he first came to the company. More than half a year has passed, and it hasn't been changed yet.
The calendar has a photo printed on it, which is a bronze artifact display case in a museum!
Su Yuan looked at the calendar, and a thought flashed through his mind.
That pattern, circles within circles, with dotted patterns forming a ring, and the character "苏" in the center, is not a symbol.
That's a lock!
Su Yuan stared at the calendar for more than ten seconds, then suppressed the thought. Without evidence or proof, it's best not to dwell on it.
He opened the drawer, took out a report sheet, and began writing a repair report. Twenty minutes later, he finished writing it and sent it to Lin Xi.
When Su Yuan returned, he went to the bathroom to wash his hands. When he came out, he ran into Chen Xiaohe, who was holding an envelope.
"This is yours."
Chen Xiaohe handed over the envelope:
"This was sent from the provincial government, I don't even know what it is..."
