Rise of the Wasteland in Cultivation

Chapter 045 A Narrow Escape

--roar

A low, drawn-out roar echoed from the depths of the dark subway tunnel, sounding like a long sigh, but to Leng San and the others, it sent chills down their spines. Everyone sprinted away, wishing they could sprout wings and escape this place.

Fortunately, the thousands of zombies seemed to be under a spell that immobilized them, and did not hinder Leng San and the others from escaping, so the five of them were able to reach the basement level smoothly.

However, before everyone could even feel relieved, the low growl sounded again, still deep and drawn out, but this time the sound was very close, as if it were a soft sigh right next to their ears, which was incredibly terrifying.

Zhou Chen and the fat man looked back in surprise, but there was no one behind them. Bi Lang shouted angrily, "Idiot, don't stop, run!"

next second!

With a deafening roar, the concrete and steel floor beneath Zhou Chen and the fat man's feet suddenly shattered, the violent energy throwing them high into the air and slamming them hard against the ceiling, causing them to spit out blood.

Bi Lang and Ye Wenrou gasped in surprise.

At the same time, a huge head emerged from under the shattered floor, its eyes flashing an eerie red light in the darkness. Then, a giant bone hand reached out, braced itself against the ground, and half of its body squeezed out from under the floor.

It's obvious that this monster smashed through the ceiling and crawled up from the second basement level. Keep in mind that each level of a subway station is made of reinforced concrete, far thicker than ordinary buildings. This thing actually smashed through the floor slab; just imagine how terrifying its strength and the hardness of its bones must be!

At this moment, Zhou Chen and the fat man had already fallen from the sky, crashing heavily to the ground, almost fainting and temporarily losing their ability to move. Just then, the monster's other bony hand reached up, and with a forceful push, part of its body was exposed again.

"Damn it!" Bi Lang raised his submachine gun and unleashed a hail of bullets at the monster, but the bullets only scattered sparks when they hit it, barely scratching it.

Ye Wenrou's laser gun continuously emitted energy beams, but when it hit the monster, it only left some slight spots and could not cause any damage to the monster. It only temporarily slowed down the monster's speed of crawling out of the floor.

"Run!" Ye Wenrou and Bi Lang shouted anxiously. Fatty and Zhou Chen finally got up and ran towards the escalator at the exit, enduring the intense pain and dizziness.

Leng San, who was running in the lead, had already rushed out of the subway station with the nuclear battery on his back. Hearing the shouts behind him, he quickly put down the nuclear battery and turned around to rush back.

By this time, most of the monster's body had emerged, with only two legs still stuck under the floor slab, presumably caught on the steel bars. Even so, its enormous size was already clearly visible.

This is a giant zombie, estimated to be about three meters tall. Its body has been completely ossified, as if it were wearing a layer of armor. Moreover, its eyes are dark red, completely different from the pale, dead fish eyes of other zombies.

Look at its angry and ferocious eyes; it's clear that it's intelligent, capable of thinking, and quite clever at that.

"Armor...Armor Corpse!" Bi Lang uttered the two words tremblingly, even dropping his miniature submachine gun to the ground, showing just how panicked this seasoned veteran was.

Ye Wenrou's face turned pale, and she almost collapsed to the ground. It wasn't entirely out of fear, but rather because she couldn't withstand the aura emanating from the armored corpse.

Just as the terrifying armored corpse was about to completely emerge from the floor, a figure leaped down from above the exit escalator—it was Leng San, who had returned.

Leng San snatched the overclocking oscillation blade from Ye Wenrou's hand, grabbed her shoulder with his left hand, and shoved her upwards forcefully, shouting, "Run!"

Ye Wenrou was suddenly thrown away by a tremendous force, landing in the middle of the exit escalator.

At this moment, Ye Wenrou, who had escaped the oppressive aura of the armored corpse, finally regained her mobility and hurriedly ran towards the subway exit. She understood that with her strength, staying would not only be of no help but would also be a burden to the team.

Bi Lang, Zhou Chen, and the fat man were alright; they were all at the second level of enhanced strength, so they weren't rendered unable to move under the pressure of the armored corpse.

At this moment, the armored corpse slammed its palms against the ground, trying to use the force to break free. Leng San pounced like lightning, unleashing his full spiritual power with the Overclock Vibration Blade, slashing down on its head.

The armored corpse's eyes flashed red light, and it hurriedly raised its palms to block its head!

Clang! Clang! Clang...

Leng San slashed ten times in one go, and the armored corpse blocked ten blows as well, its pair of bone hands remaining unharmed.

Although he already knew that the armored corpse's defense was terrifying, Leng San was still extremely shocked. Even with his overclocked oscillation blade infused with all his spiritual power, he still couldn't break through the armored corpse's defense. Its hardness was too abnormal. No wonder it takes 100,000 zombies to evolve into one armored corpse.

However, although Leng San's ten slashes could not break through the defense, they still smashed the lower half of the armored corpse back into the floor, buying Fatty and Zhou Chen precious time to escape.

"Ha!" Leng San took a deep breath and slashed out with all his might with his last strike. The armored corpse seemed to be having trouble with its hands, so this time it didn't use its hands to block, but instead tilted its head and used its shoulder to block Leng San's strike.

--when!

With a loud bang, the armored corpse sank another half foot, while the overclocked oscillation blade started smoking, presumably rendered useless.

Leng San unleashed eleven powerful strikes, but was now somewhat exhausted. Seeing that Zhou Chen and Fatty had already run up the escalator, he threw away the overclocking oscillation blade and quickly retreated towards the exit escalator, simultaneously drawing his Desert Eagle and firing as he retreated.

bang bang bang...

Every shot hit the armored corpse's head precisely. Although it failed to break through its defenses, the power of the Desert Eagle caused the corpse's head to involuntarily tilt back with each hit.

When all the bullets in the Desert Eagle were used up, Leng San had already escaped to the escalator entrance and immediately rushed upwards at top speed.

Before the armored corpse could even unleash its full power, it was hit head-on by two waves of attacks from Leng San, clearly enraged. Just as Leng San ran out of bullets, it slammed its paws on the ground and burst out from under the floorboards, the immense force causing the floor to shatter and crack.

--roar

The armored corpse roared and, like a cannonball, crashed into the escalator with earth-shattering force, causing the escalator to collapse on the spot.

Leng San happened to reach the top of the escalator at that moment, and quickly grabbed the handrail to propel himself upwards, thus avoiding collapsing with the escalator.

—Bang!

The armored corpse suddenly pushed off the ground and leaped high into the air like a cannonball. Its pair of bone claws went straight for Leng San's back. Tsk tsk, if this claw hit, Leng San would probably be torn to pieces in an instant.

Fortunately, Leng San was prepared; while still in mid-air, he threw two grenades back.

—Boom!

The two grenades exploded the moment they made contact with the armored corpse. Instantly, flames billowed and the violent shockwave propelled Leng San out of the subway station entrance. He landed with a smooth roll, escaping unharmed.

"Mistress!" Ye Wenrou rushed over in surprise, but Leng San's expression changed drastically, and he hurriedly shouted, "Don't come any closer, run!"

No sooner had he finished speaking than the armored corpse pounced up from below, its body still engulfed in flames and smoke, clearly indicating that the two grenades had caused it some damage.

Just when Leng San thought he was doomed, the setting sun shone directly on the armored corpse, and the corpse's head began to hiss and emit blue smoke. He hurriedly retreated in terror to a place inside the subway station where the sun did not shine.

Bi Lang exclaimed with delight, "This armored corpse hasn't finished evolving yet; its head is afraid of sunlight!"

"Boss, is this for real?" Zhou Chen was skeptical, so he took out a mirror from his backpack and reflected the sunlight onto the armored corpse. But the armored corpse was hiding in the shadows, its dark red eyes fixed on Leng San, without any reaction.

Bilang reminded him, "Shoot it on the head!"

Zhou Chen quickly adjusted the angle to shine the light on the armored corpse's head, and this time the armored corpse indeed raised a pair of bone hands to block the sunlight.

"Hahaha, this ferocious creature really is afraid of sunlight!" Zhou Chen, seeing that the armored corpse was afraid of sunlight, immediately became smug and actually walked up to it, taunting, "Come out and fight me one-on-one if you dare!"

The corpse's dark red eyes, which had been staring fiercely at Leng San, slowly shifted to Zhou Chen, who immediately felt a chill run down his spine.

Leng San frowned and warned, "Brother Chen, this thing is conscious and quite intelligent. It probably has a good memory too. Be careful it doesn't come looking for you after dark!"

Holy crap, how could I forget this!

Zhou Chen shivered violently, filled with regret, and hurriedly backed away.

Ye Wenrou glanced at the mountain-sized armored corpse, walked to Leng San's side, and whispered, "Xiao San, are you alright?"

Leng San shook his head slightly and said, "I'm fine. Let's hurry up and go before the sun goes down."

Leng San knew very well that his escape was purely by luck; if he had faced the monster head-on, he would have surely died.

The group immediately put the subway train's nuclear battery into the trunk of the SUV and drove away quickly.

The armored corpse hid in the shadows inside the subway entrance, watching Leng San and the others leave with resentment, its dark red eyes filled with hatred and malice.

With the sun setting in about an hour and a half, Leng San and his companions dared not linger. They drove for over a hundred kilometers before finally finding a nearby camp for scavengers to stay overnight.

This was Bi Lang's idea. He was worried that the armored corpse might be intelligent and come looking for revenge, so instead of going straight back to Camp C-361, he went to another camp to spend the night, wandered around the next day, and finally went back to his lair.

He really is a cunning old fox!
