Reborn in 1970, I thrived in Hong Kong.

Chapter 11 Be Careful on New Year's Eve: A Prophecy Comes True, An Unexpected Encounter with Ch

Phoenix Hardware & Plastics Factory started its holiday just a few days after resuming operations. The reason was simple: February 5th was Lunar New Year's Eve in 1970.

Mr. Li Huai-ren, the generous boss, gave all employees of Phoenix Hardware & Plastics Factory and Phoenix Daily who volunteered to work overtime triple wages, HK$50 each as a "lucky money" for sticking to their posts, a bag of 20 catties of rice, and a bucket of peanut oil.

This small amount of money is nothing to Li Huai-ren, who is now making a fortune every day, but for the employees of the newspaper and the hardware and plastics factory, it is equivalent to receiving almost two months' salary for nothing (they had a ten-day holiday for the Spring Festival this year and resumed work on the ninth day of the Lunar New Year)!

Which employee wouldn't love a boss like that? And which employee would give up such great benefits?

Needless to say, whether it was Phoenix Daily or the hardware and plastics factory, surprisingly no one was unwilling to work overtime. In the end, they all stayed at the newspaper office and the factory as usual, full of enthusiasm.

February 5th was Lunar New Year's Eve.

As the eldest daughter-in-law of the Luo family, Li Yawen, who is now married, is responsible for presiding over the worship of the Luo family's ancestors, so naturally she cannot meet with her only younger brother.

Early in the morning, Li Huai-ren got up and started working. Since there were no female relatives in the family, he had to personally handle the ancestral worship ceremony that should have been handled by female relatives.

Ye San Niang watched Li Huai Ren busy with this and that with heartache, wanting to help but unable to, because her surname was Ye and she was an outsider.

However, when she saw that Li Huai-ren was no longer skin and bones, but instead had a rosy complexion and was full of energy, she smiled happily.

This year, only Li Huai-ren and Ye San-niang ate their New Year's Eve dinner together.

Originally, Ye San Niang was unwilling to sit down at the table, but Li Huai Ren, on the grounds that he had abolished this rule, made her dine with him directly from now on.

After the New Year's Eve dinner, Li Huai-ren took the initiative to call his eldest sister and said a few auspicious words.

This thrilled Li Yawen, who had never received such treatment from Li Huai-ren before, and she almost burst into tears. After hanging up the phone, she praised her husband, Luo Jiazhuang, for finally showing that her younger brother had become sensible.

Just as Li Huai-ren hung up the phone, Guan Jia-hui's voice rang out from outside the villa gate:

"Li the villain, Li the villain, come out quickly! We're going to the observation deck to watch the fireworks!"

"Jiahui, how many times have I told you? I'm not a bad person. I've told you not to call me that anymore, why don't you listen?"

Pushing open the villa door, Li Huai-ren glanced at the future beautiful Guan and said speechlessly.

Guan Jiahui rolled her eyes at him:

"Alright, alright, as long as you come with me to the observation deck to watch the fireworks, I won't call you 'Li the Bad Guy' today, okay?"

Li Huai-ren smiled helplessly, then said to her "fiercely":

"Hmph! You call me 'Bad Guy Li' every day. One day, I'll show you how bad I can be. Are you scared?"

Guan Jiahui glared at him, reached out and grabbed him, pulling him by the sleeve and towards the road, muttering under her breath:

"Hurry up and leave, you big guy, you drool more than you drink tea!"

After saying that, she seemed to remember something and added:

"If you want to be mean to me in the future, that's not impossible."

Li Huai-ren was taken aback, then glared at her:

"Do you even know what it means to be bad to you? If you don't, don't talk nonsense."

Guan Jiahui glanced back at him and said disdainfully:

"Tch, what do you mean? Isn't it just like my parents, you and I sleeping together in each other's arms?"

I heard from my mom that when I was a baby, you even held me while I peed! Humph, you big bad guy!

"Oh, right, my mom also said that you own a big newspaper. If I marry you, I'll enjoy a life of luxury, and she'll enjoy a life of luxury too, hehe."

Li Huai-ren was taken aback, and without thinking, he blurted out:

"No, absolutely not, I will never marry you."

Upon hearing this, Guan Jiahui immediately became so angry that her nose almost twisted out of shape:

"What? Li the Scoundrel, you're saying you absolutely won't marry me? Then who will I marry? Tell me, or I'll bite you to death!"

After saying that, she actually picked up Li Huai Ren's right hand and, like a tigress, bit down on the soft flesh of his tiger's mouth, ready to bite down at any moment!

Li Huai-ren immediately glared at her:

"I'll give you a piece of my mind! Are you a dog? Let go of me first, open your mouth first!"

"Um, I, I won't let go. If you don't say you'll marry me, I, I won't give in."

"Alright, alright, I'll marry you, but you can only be my thirteenth concubine!"

"Why, why am I the thirteenth concubine? Who are the tenth and twelfth women in line ahead of me?"

"I don't know either, don't worry about it. Anyway, if you want to marry me in the future, no matter who came before you, or how many, you can only be the thirteenth concubine."

"Li, Li, you're a bad person! You're being unreasonable! I'm going to get angry!"

"You'd better give me a straight answer, or you won't even have a thirteenth concubine anymore, and I'll make you the twenty-third concubine..."

"Ah, how did you become the twenty-third concubine? Li, you scoundrel, I'll fight you to the death! Take this, the Eighteen Subduing Dragon Palms: Regretful Dragon Ascension!"

"Ouch, are you serious? Why does it hurt so much when you hit me? Forget it, you should just stay as the thirteenth concubine and stop hitting me..."

"Alright, then it'll be Thirteenth Concubine."

Li, you bad guy, I'll let you off the hook for today.

However, you have to take me to the flower market and shopping tomorrow, and buy me pretty clothes to appease me…”

The two walked towards the mountain viewing platform under the bright streetlights, their voices growing fainter and fainter as they went.

Faintly, one could hear Li Huai-ren say with annoyance:

"Holy crap, I've just unleashed a shopaholic on my own..."

Some things and some words should not be said casually, especially on New Year's Eve, as they can easily become prophetic.

Take, for example, Li Huai-ren and Guan Jia-hui, an adult and a child, holding hands as they went up to the observation deck to watch the fireworks display in Victoria Harbour. They talked a lot that night, and who knows which of their words will become a prophecy in the future?

The next day, because Guan's father went to another woman's house, Guan's mother handed Guan Jia Hui over to Li Huai Ren and then angrily drove off to catch them in the act of adultery.

Li Huai-ren had no choice but to comply with Guan Jia-hui's wishes and take her to the flower market at MacPherson Stadium in Mong Kok.

For some reason, the flower market was exceptionally popular this year, with huge crowds and a high population density, with about four people standing in just one square meter!

Li Huai-ren, holding Guan Jia-hui's hand, squeezed through the crowds for several hundred meters. Seeing that they were still several hundred meters away from the ballpark flower market, and with pickpockets swarming along the way, Li Huai-ren decided to give up and suggest they go shopping instead.

"Jiahui, it's so crowded. It looks like we won't be able to get into the flower market even in another hour. Let's skip the flower market and go shopping instead, okay?"

The crowd was too large and the air was not fresh. Guan Jiahui had long wanted to leave, but when she heard him say that, she immediately agreed.

The two had just escaped the human torrent and had only walked a few steps back when they encountered a little boy sitting by the roadside, wailing and shouting:

"Big sister, I'm here, where are you? Waaaaah..."

Li Huai-ren was kind-hearted and knew that if no one paid attention to the child, the people in Kowloon Walled City who specialized in begging would soon appear, kidnap him, and break his arms, legs, or spine to make him a beggar.

He quickly took Guan Jiahui's hand and walked over to the little boy, saying:

"Don't cry, don't cry. We'll stay with you and wait for your eldest sister to come find you. If she hasn't come after half an hour, tell us where you live, and we'll take you home."

"Mmm, thank you, brother. My name is Zhong..."

The little boy was quite clever. Seeing that Li Huai-ren and Guan Jia-hui's clothes seemed to be better than the most expensive ones in his father's clothing store, he introduced himself.

"What are you two trying to do? Are you trying to kidnap my little brother?"

Just then, a slightly childish female voice shouted loudly from several meters behind Li Huai-ren and the other two, interrupting the little boy's words.

Being mistaken for a human trafficker, Li Huai-ren cursed inwardly, "Damn it!" and immediately stood up to look behind him.

Then, he froze:

Even if this little girl of eleven or twelve years old in front of him turned to ashes, he would still recognize her with her big eyes and her distinctive square face.

If it wasn't Cherie Chung, one of my favorite actresses from my past life, then who else could it be?
