Chapter 45 Black Rhino Knight, Hunting the Earth Dragon Beast
Chapter 45 [Black Rhino Knight], Hunting the Earth Dragon Beast! (3rd update! Please continue reading!)
"Isn't this just a coincidence?"
This bounty commission is practically tailor-made for me.
Li Wei even began to suspect that this task was a trap, designed to lure him in.
This task was posted seven days ago.
Logically speaking, given how rare ambergris is, this task should have been taken on long ago.
However, the fact that the task was still available seven days later only shows that the person who issued the task had very high requirements for archery skills.
Although he didn't know what he was supposed to do, Li Wei decided to accept the commission since it was his only source of ambergris. If things didn't work out, he could just abandon the mission and pay a penalty.
Not long after, the person who issued the task contacted Li Wei.
Li Wei was delighted when he saw that the man was the knight who had sold him ambergris earlier.
In the end, it was this knight who was able to provide the ambergris.
Fate is truly a mysterious thing, Li Wei couldn't help but sigh.
However, this also shows that this person did indeed have access to ambergris.
The knight didn't seem to recognize Li Wei. He asked in a serious tone, "Sir, have you read the mission requirements carefully? The archery skills required for this mission are exceptionally high."
The knight looked skeptical. After all, no fewer than ten people claiming to be archers had approached him recently, only to find, after testing them, that they were all frauds and couldn't meet his requirements at all.
"Whether my archery skills are good or not, why don't you try it and you'll know?" Li Wei said calmly when he saw that the man doubted his archery skills.
"Alright, come with me." After saying that, the knight left the Shining Tavern. Li Wei thought for a moment and then followed him.
In the wilderness outside Icewind City, the knight found a clearing and bought three snow hares from a hunter. These snow hares were lively and energetic.
"To confirm whether your archery skills meet my requirements, I need to conduct the necessary tests on you," the knight said.
"no problem."
The knight nodded, and then he opened the cage.
The three snow hares ran swiftly across the wilderness in three different directions.
Before long, he had run nearly 100 meters.
"You may now shoot arrows. If you can hit both, you will pass," the knight said, though he clearly didn't have much hope.
If shooting down a snow rabbit is only considered difficult, then shooting down a second one quickly after shooting down one would be considered extremely difficult for most knights.
Snow hares run too fast. If you don't have the instant-shooting technique, the second one will have already disappeared by the time you've shot the first one.
But the next moment, he saw that Li Wei did not spend any time aiming. He casually shot an arrow at a snow hare that was about to disappear into the bushes. He didn't even look at the result of the arrow. He immediately drew his bow again and shot another arrow.
The arrow was aimed at a snow hare running to the left, which was already over a hundred meters away.
Then, to the knight's astonishment, both snow rabbits were instantly killed by arrows that pierced their heads.
As for the third one, Li Wei did not shoot it. Although he was confident that he could kill the third one, there was no need. Passing the test was enough. Killing more would only expose too much of his strength.
He believed that this result was enough to convince the knight.
As expected, the knight realized what was happening and exclaimed in praise: "Your archery skills are indeed superb. You have met my requirements. Now I will tell you about our mission."
"I am Graf, a bounty hunter. May I ask your name?" the knight introduced himself.
"You can call me White Wolf, a free knight," Li Wei said.
Free Knights, to put it simply, are wandering knights.
However, some wandering knights without fiefdoms prefer to use the more emotionally intelligent term "freedom" instead of the less emotionally intelligent term "wandering," similar to how some unemployed people in my previous life called themselves freelancers or authors.
Graf didn't say anything. This man who called himself White Wolf obviously didn't want to reveal his identity. Judging from White Wolf's demeanor and attire, he should be a noble knight, not a wandering knight.
However, he wasn't interested in the white wolf's identity; he only needed the white wolf's superb archery skills to help him accomplish something important.
Graf led Levi to a mansion he had purchased in Icewind City.
When Li Wei arrived, he found that there were already three knights in the mansion. One of the knights was over two meters tall and was obviously practicing a power-type breathing technique. He had an exaggeratedly long shield next to him, which was estimated to weigh over a hundred pounds.
The other two include a rare female knight. In this world, men are superior to women, and generally, neither noble families nor royalty allow women to learn breathing techniques, so true female knights are rare.
This female knight was much smaller in stature. She wore a light leather armor that covered her petite but curvaceous figure, and her curly blonde hair and long, beautiful legs made her truly eye-catching.
The last one was a middle-aged man who was using a spear and was feeding his horse at the stable.
These three men, all official knights, were gathered at Graf's mansion, clearly there for Graf's bounty mission.
"Lord White Wolf, allow me to introduce you to our other three teammates for this mission. This strong man, as solid as a mountain, is the Black Rhino Knight; this beautiful and elegant lady is the Red Spider Knight; and that gentleman feeding the horse is the Blue Falcon Knight."
"We've assembled a full five official knights for this operation to ensure its complete success," Graf said with a smile, appearing confident.
"What is the objective of our operation?" Levi asked. Up until now, Graf still hadn't said what he wanted to do.
Graf shook his head. He went to a storeroom in the mansion, then opened the door. Inside, there was a rather large machine.
Upon seeing this, Li Wei's expression changed slightly. This was a military armor-piercing crossbow used in large-scale wars, which was said to be able to tear through plate armor and even destroy weak city walls.
"Our target this time is an earth dragon beast," Graf said.
Upon hearing this, Li Wei turned around and left.
Thank you to Square Root Party for the 100-yuan reward.
