You are a cat demon

Chapter 17 The Gears of Fate Begin to Turn

"Aww!"

The moment you sense the chill behind you, before you can even turn around, a sharp pain shoots through your buttocks.

It turned out to be that defeated male cat demon. It hadn't gone far, and seeing you nearby, it attacked you. Perhaps it was out of aversion to other cats during its heat cycle, perhaps it saw you as a rival, or maybe it was furious because it missed a chance to bond with a "beautiful" woman. Seeing you leisurely strolling around, it was looking for a place to vent its anger, so it used you as a punching bag. Whatever the reason, you've really had a run of bad luck this time.

You instinctively retaliate, but when you meet the gaze of this adult male, you can't help but feel a chill.

Those eyes were filled with a chilling killing intent. Just one glance was enough to make you gasp for breath, as if an invisible hand were gripping your heart. In that instant, what stood before you was no longer your own kind, but a raging flood—no, a bottomless abyss. You instantly lost all will to fight, gripped by terror that could barely breathe. Only one word remained in your mind: Run!

Forced to activate your survival instincts, you unleashed a terrifying potential. Your running speed left the adult male far behind. Fortunately, it had just gone through a fierce battle and suffered a significant injury to its abdomen. It was exhausted both physically and mentally and couldn't catch up with you at all. Perhaps it didn't want to waste too much time on you. In the end, it just swung its paw fiercely in the direction you fled and gave up the chase.

Thankfully, it was a close call.

You don't know how long you ran or how far you ran, but you got tired and came to rest under a spruce tree.

You're panting and looking around, afraid that guy might jump out of some bush and give you a good beating.

You haven't run this hard in a long time. You feel dizzy and heavy-headed, and your stomach hurts so much that you almost threw up your dinner from the night before. You can only take a few deep breaths to calm your heartbeat as much as possible.

When it rains, it pours; when a cat is stranded on the plains, it is bullied by birds.

A puddle of white excrement landed on your head, instantly making you furious. You even pressed your forehead against the grass and rubbed it vigorously, but it still felt like it wasn't clean enough.

Even a tiny magpie can poop on your head, that's outrageous!

You look up and glare angrily at that blind magpie, wishing you had wings, otherwise you would definitely fly up to catch it. Or if it flew just a little lower, you could leap up and catch it with lightning speed, then pluck out its feathers one by one, turning it into a bare-chested bird.

But that was ultimately just an unrealistic idea; you could only watch helplessly as the magpies soared freely in the sky...

Maybe not.

Suddenly, an idea struck you, and you quietly followed them.

In temperate regions, magpies typically begin nesting and breeding in early March, continuing until July. Now is the peak season for magpies to incubate their eggs and raise their chicks. You might not be able to catch those high-flying magpies, but the eggs and chicks are like meat on a chopping board—a free treat. If you're feeling a bit hungry, give it a try.

You followed along the way.

A few ugly goblins were sunbathing out of their burrows by the roadside, but as soon as they saw you approaching, they all scurried back into the ground. Goblin meat is tough and has a foul, muddy smell; you wouldn't even want to eat it if it were given to you.

You will soon find the magpie's nest.

Inside the nearly spherical nest, all the eggs had hatched. Several pink chicks hadn't even opened their eyes yet, their legs were weak and powerless. They could only lie on the bottom of the nest, which was covered with downy feathers, pecking at the air with their mouths wide open and chirping hungryly.

This is simply a mouthwatering dish.

Young creatures don't evoke the cat demon's compassion. The cat demon won't spare its prey just because it's newborn, much less repent and become a saint. On the contrary, the cat demon loves to eat young creatures, the younger the better, as the younger the meat, the more tender it is. Just two weeks ago, you were foraging when you suddenly smelled a sweet, pungent aroma of sheep's blood in the air. You immediately became alert. Following the scent, you found a mother goat in the midst of a difficult labor. Half of the lamb's body was exposed, the other half still inside its mother. Seeing this, you immediately pounced, drooling, and tore at the exposed half of the lamb's body. The poor mother goat couldn't get up, couldn't escape, and could only watch helplessly as you devoured her unborn child, eventually bleeding to death…

The baby birds melt in your mouth, incredibly tender. You eat them one after another, completely satisfied, and all the anger you felt earlier almost disappears. The magpie parents are calling pitifully from another tree, but their cries sound like heavenly music to you—a truly high-level psychological enjoyment.

Then a rustling sound came from the tree canopy.
