You are a cat demon

Chapter 7 The Flower Blooming in Bones

Since losing a child, the mother's vigilance has increased to an unprecedented level. She would even wake up from time to time while sleeping, and then nervously breathe out half a breath of air.

One night, you couldn't sleep. Listening to the chirping of insects outside the cave, you tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep. Just as you were starting to drift off, a sudden jolt jolted you awake. You saw your mother's eyes wide open in the darkness, staring intently at the cave entrance, as if an unseen figure stood there. Your shudder startled your fourth cat, who was sleeping next to you. The fourth cat, a little timid, cried out in fright, "Meow meow!" The other two cat demons were also awakened…

It's not that your mother will stop you from going out to play. After all, these childhood games are the beginning of your journey into the harsh natural world as adults. These experiences will affect you for a long time, even your entire life. We can't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

Mother can't and shouldn't stop you naughty little devils. The only thing she can do is make sure that the four of you are safe and sound under her watchful eye at all times, even when hunting. Mother will only move within her sight of you. If you run off and disappear, Mother will call out a few times, and you must respond in order. Sometimes you stare at the sky, lost in thought, making Mother worry terribly. In the end, Mother has no choice but to come looking for you herself, and before you can even react, she'll give you a slap on the head.

Life is unpredictable; no one knows whether tomorrow or an accident will come first. Everything your mother does is for your own good.

Knowing you were in the wrong, you lowered your head and followed closely behind your mother, not daring to fall behind even a step.

Just then, you saw a dark shadow swiftly dart across the ground. This shadow was strange; sometimes it would linger on you for a moment, sometimes it would move about erratically, like a giant beetle, its color varying from dark to light. Sometimes it would disappear into the grass and vanish in an instant. You found it extremely amusing.

But Mother looked alarmed and shouted for everyone to gather around quickly.

You were closest to your mother, so you quickly slipped under her belly. Meanwhile, the eldest brother, who was hiding in the grass doing something, the second brother, who was playing with leaves, and the fourth brother, who was squatting and watching ants, also quickly ran back and squeezed under you.

Because the space was too cramped, your little head peeked out from between your mother's two front legs, and when you looked up, you saw a big bird flying in the sky.

The bird's feathers were brown all over, but the feathers on the back of its head were surprisingly golden, making it look very handsome.

You later learned that the big bird was called a golden eagle, a very fierce carnivorous bird of prey that can reach a height of one meter and a wingspan of two meters. Its maximum diving speed is 320 kilometers per hour, second only to the peregrine falcon. Sometimes it can break the neck of a red deer with a single flap of its wing. Some golden eagles can even prey on adult wolves and foxes. You cat demon cubs were undoubtedly on its menu.

The mother will spread her limbs as wide as possible, like a giant protective umbrella, covering you tightly. Once the golden eagle is only two or three meters away from the ground, the mother will bar her teeth and claws, her breath spraying saliva everywhere, as if to say, "If you dare to come down, you'll regret it."

The golden eagle circled overhead, occasionally swooping down as if to engage in a life-or-death struggle with its mother, but just before reaching the ground, it would quickly raise its chest, flap its wings, and fly high again, never actually doing so.

The tender flesh of kittens, three or four months old, is a rare delicacy for golden eagles. Even in the early summer when food is plentiful, kittens still rank high on the menus of many carnivores. However, golden eagles are wary of adult cat demons. Cat demons are not like the wild or domestic cats that can be found everywhere. Their speed and aggression are far beyond the reach of a golden eagle, and it might even be killed, becoming its meal. There have been many cases of hungry golden eagles attempting to hunt kittens only to be bitten and killed by adult cat demons. The young golden eagle before it clearly knows this, but it doesn't want to give up completely and is looking for the right opportunity.

The mother would certainly not let it have its way, and she mobilized all her nerves to guard against the threat from the sky.
