One-Punch Man: Boros, the Universe Overlord
Chapter 43: Asura Rhinoceros Beetle, I Hate You for a Lifetime
Sitch quickly picked up the conversation and continued:
"Everyone, please calm down, I have some heavy news."
"The great prophet, Lord Sibabawa, is dead!"
"You mean Shibabawa? Was he killed by someone?"
The S-rank 8th zombie man spoke slowly, his face revealing little emotion, but his voice carried a hint of solemnity. As a near-immortal hero, he had a deeper understanding of "death" than ordinary people.
"No..." Sitch shook her head. "When she was divining the future six months from now, she suddenly panicked, had difficulty breathing, and started coughing violently. Just as she was trying to relieve the symptoms, she grabbed a throat lozenge and stuffed it into her mouth... and then she choked to death."
A brief silence fell over the conference room, as if even the air itself had frozen.
This way of dying is too childish, and too...absurd.
"Heh, sounds like an important person, yet he died so hastily."
Boros tilted his head slightly to look at Sitch, his tone laced with mockery.
"Choked by candy?"
He repeated the cause of death, his tone almost dripping with sarcasm.
"There are countless ways to treat such a basic accident. I really don't know what you guys are doing, discussing a prophet who choked to death? Anyone who knows would think this is a headquarters meeting, but anyone who doesn't would think third-rate entertainers are putting on a terrible stand-up comedy performance."
"These lame jokes, which are only meant to make people feel stupid, are meaningless except to show your incompetence."
In the suffocating silence of the conference room, a faint conversation suddenly broke out in a corner.
"Genos," Saitama nudged his disciple beside him with his elbow, his voice low and tinged with confusion.
"Tell me, what's wrong with Pineapple Head today? Why is he acting like he's on fire, all hot and bothered?"
Genos tilted his head slightly and answered in a low voice, his tone carrying a hint of rational analysis:
"Teacher, I think Professor Boros is indeed angry. After all, it's illogical for a great prophet who can foresee the future to choke to death on a piece of candy. From this perspective, the Hero Association's higher-ups do seem incompetent, unable to protect important talents or handle such a basic accident."
Although the two deliberately lowered their voices, everyone present was a powerful individual with keen senses. Saitama and Genos's "whisper" reached everyone's ears without missing a single word.
Metal Bat's lips twitched, then he burst out laughing without any restraint, pointing at Boros and laughing so hard he almost fell over:
"Pineapple Head? Hahaha, that nickname is so fitting! Baldy, you're so talented! I'm starting to like you!"
Tornado laughed heartily, "Baka pineapple head, alien pineapple head!!!"
Boros, at the eye of the storm, remained expressionless and cold-faced, though tears of humiliation welled up silently in his heart as a surge of grief and indignation rose within him.
"Damn it, bald guy, I shouldn't have brought you along!"
"Everyone knows my nickname 'Pineapple Head' now! I'm absolutely devastated! Asura Rhinoceros Beetle, I'll hate you for life..."
"My image... my lifelong reputation, ruined in an instant. What was the point of all this pretense? Friendship over, this time it's really over! I'm tired, let it all end, I don't want to talk anymore!"
He suppressed his inner breakdown, barely managing to maintain that cold and arrogant expression on his face.
Sitch coughed forcefully, breaking the somewhat strange atmosphere, and quickly switched back to his solemn expression.
"Alright, everyone," Sitch's voice suddenly rose:
"The unexpected death of Lady Sibabawa was indeed a major dereliction of duty on our part, and I apologize to everyone on behalf of the association. However, the core issue now is not her... uh, bizarre cause of death, but the last prophecy she left behind before her death—that future that will one hundred percent come true!"
He took a deep breath, as if trying to shut out all the noise, and then slowly and carefully pulled out a yellowed piece of paper from the bottom of the thick stack of folders in his arms.
"These are the words that Lord Sibabawa wrote with his last breath in the final moments of his life."
Sitch's voice was so low it sounded like he was reciting a eulogy. His hands trembled slightly as he laid the note flat in the center of the conference table.
She predicted that within six months, the Earth would face an unavoidable and utterly devastating catastrophe.
Everyone's eyes immediately focused on that small piece of paper.
On the note, written in a distorted and illegible hand, as if carved with fingernails, were five large, startling characters:
"The Earth is doomed."
"What? This is so boring. I have tutoring classes. Can I go home now?"
Child Emperor, the sixth hero of S-Class, raised his hand with a speechless expression. He shook the lollipop in his hand, his childish face full of impatience.
In his view, the meeting was a complete farce, first discussing a prophet who choked to death on candy, and now pulling out a note that said "The Earth is doomed" to scare people. It was even more boring than his math homework.
"A child is still a child, isn't he?"
Looking at Child Emperor's nonchalant attitude, Sitch shook his head helplessly, secretly wondering if there was something wrong with the Hero Association's talent selection process, that a primary school student could be sitting in an S-class position.
He took a deep breath, straightened his face again, and his tone became more serious than ever before:
"Listen carefully, Child Emperor. Lady Sibabawa's prophecies are 100% accurate. She has predicted countless earthquakes, tsunamis, and monster attacks, and every single one of them has come true without fail."
Sitch tapped the note lightly with his fingers, as if emphasizing its weight.
"However, until now, she has never used such an absolute word as 'completely destroyed' to describe any disaster. Even when facing disasters of dragon level or above, she only said that 'it will cause huge casualties' or 'the city will be destroyed.' It is clear that what is about to happen is so terrible that it has exceeded all of our understanding."
He looked around at each hero in the conference room, his eyes filled with earnestness and solemnity.
"Therefore, please prepare for a major war within six months. This is no longer a joke, but the ultimate battle concerning the survival of all of us, and even the entire planet."
"So what? What's the countermeasure? What's the plan?" Boros's cold voice rang out.
There are no plans yet.
Sitch's voice was somewhat hoarse. Faced with a "complete disaster" that even the greatest prophet could not predict, any plan seemed pale and powerless.
"Then what's the point of holding this meeting?"
Boros stood up. "I think everyone here, as an S-class hero, is always ready for battle. If a disaster occurs, we will definitely be there immediately. It's our duty, and it's our instinct."
His gaze swept over every S-class hero present, finally settling on Sitch's disheveled appearance.
"There's no plan whatsoever. Is this meeting just about preparing us for battle? Isn't that a bit unnecessary?"
His words were like sharp blades. A deathly silence fell over the conference room; everyone remained silent. They knew Boros was right; this meeting was indeed pointless.
But they also knew that Sitch might have convened this meeting simply to give himself some psychological comfort, or rather, to have an excuse to shirk responsibility when disaster struck.
"I really don't mean to say anything about your association's higher-ups, unless I really can't help it. Everyone's time is precious. Some are training, some are playing games, and some are even attending tutoring classes."
Are they really serious about playing video games and attending tutoring classes? The heroes silently grumbled...
Borough paused for a moment, then continued:
"You gathered us here, and I thought you could at least come up with some decent strategic plans. But what happened? A meeting, a prediction, a 'we're finished,' and that was it?"
"I don't understand what your association's management is doing; it's a real waste of time."
Boros was truly speechless. He had originally intended to maintain his cool image, but at this moment, faced with this utterly absurd meeting process, he simply couldn't keep up the act any longer. He had to rant and rave, otherwise he would be driven to internal injury by these idiots.
Even if he didn't become Boros, the Dark Matter Pirates just happened to attack City A right now in the original story, which was just a coincidence, and it still wouldn't change the fact that this meeting was boring and unnecessary.
Why hold an emergency meeting and tell the S-class heroes to prepare for battle within six months? Are you out of your mind? You don't know when, where, or what kind of disaster it will be, so you can't make any targeted deployments. You're just spouting a bunch of nonsense, a complete waste of time.
"Hmph, you're right."
Metal Bat broke the silence first, slamming the bat down on his shoulder with a dull thud. He glanced sideways at Sicchi, his eyes full of displeasure.
"I thought it was some earth-shattering crisis, but it's just this? I stood my sister up to come here, you know. If you come to the next S-class emergency meeting, I'm an idiot."
"It's such a waste of time."
Child Emperor chimed in, jumping off his chair and kicking the table leg in frustration. "I haven't finished my tutoring homework yet. If I get scolded by the teacher tomorrow, are you going to take responsibility, Sitch?"
"Exactly, this kind of baseless intimidation..."
Metal Bat was about to reply and vent his frustration when his words were suddenly interrupted.
"boom--!!"
A sudden tremor struck without warning, causing the entire conference room to shake.
The immense inertia caused Tong Di to stumble and nearly fall to the ground. He hurriedly grabbed the corner of the table to steady himself, and the childishness on his face was instantly replaced by astonishment.
"Has this building been attacked?"
Genos, who was sitting not far away, reacted quickly. His mechanical eye instantly switched to thermal sensing mode, and the data on the screen jumped wildly. He stood up abruptly and stared at the turbulent sky outside the window.
"Impossible! This is the association headquarters!"
A dark figure also stood up in surprise; it was none other than Super Alloy Darkshine, ranked twelfth among S-class warriors…
