The Last Mr. Dongguo

Chapter 36 The Impossible Disappearance

Having not seen the sun for several days, Cheng Luan felt somewhat disoriented as he emerged from inside. He raised his handcuffed hands to shield some of the glare from his eyes, and golden sunlight streamed through his fingers onto his haggard face.

"Let's go, Captain Cheng, everyone's waiting, don't make things difficult for the brothers."

Cheng Luan turned to look at his two subordinates beside him; their faces were both familiar and unfamiliar. He sighed helplessly, turned, and got into the car. With a clatter, the car door slammed shut, and the armored truck sped away into the distance.

The car was familiar, the people were familiar, but the road ahead stretched into the distance, a vast and desolate expanse. Cheng Luan tapped his knee repeatedly with his fingers, trying to memorize the route. Because they were acquaintances, and Bai Xin had given specific instructions, the four men in the car seemed less serious, even loosening Cheng Luan's handcuffs. This gesture, however, made Cheng Luan feel somewhat guilty about his next plan.

"Captain Cheng, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

From the moment he got into the car, Cheng Luan closed his eyes slightly, his brows furrowed. Perhaps thinking of the days when he and Cheng Luan solved cases together, the person next to him couldn't help but ask.

"It's alright, don't call me captain anymore, just do your jobs."

Cheng Luan did not open his eyes, but continued to keep the rhythm and record the route.

As time went by, the once flat road became rugged and gradually turned into a mountain path, and the car began to bump along.

Suddenly, the car braked sharply and stopped halfway up the mountain. A landslide ahead had blocked the road.

"What happened?"

Unaware of what was happening, Xiao Li's head slammed into the back railing due to inertia. Before he could react, Cheng Luan beside him instantly knocked out the two people in the back. A short knife pierced through the iron railing and was pressed against the driver's lower back.

"Don't move, I don't want to hurt you."

"Chengdui, put down your knife. Don't make another mistake."

Old Zhang in the passenger seat drew his pistol from his waist.

"Old Zhang, we've worked together for so many years, I know your habits all too well. Every time you receive your weapon after a mission, you never check your bullets. When you were unlocking my handcuffs, I removed your bullets."

A fine sheen of sweat had already formed on Old Zhang's forehead. At this moment, he no longer had time to verify whether Cheng Luan's words were true or false. However, his own habits were already making him increasingly flustered. His mind instantly recalled the scene with Cheng Luan before he got into the car, and in a hazy state, it seemed that Cheng Luan was right. At this moment, he already felt that the pistol in his hand was indeed out of bullets.

"I have other things to do. After I'm done, I'll turn myself in. What you need to do now is take out your phone and call for help, because these three people need a doctor."

Before Cheng Luan could finish speaking, the dagger in his hand had already pierced the driver's back, but Cheng Luan controlled the force perfectly. By the time Old Zhang reacted, Cheng Luan had already disappeared into the vast mountains.

The string bar is a place where people unleash their wild side; the cool colored lights and energetic music make people forget everything.

Fei Li and Li Mengying found a secluded spot to sit down and waved for a waiter.

"Call your manager here."

Before the waiter could speak, Fei Li's sudden words left the waiter somewhat confused.

"Sir, is there anything about our service that has dissatisfied you?"

"No, I'm here to cause trouble."

"Sir, you probably don't know where you are, do you?"

As soon as the waitress finished speaking, seven or eight men in suits walked towards them from different directions.

"Wait a moment."

A blinding white light made the waitress turn her head to look away. When she looked back, Li Mengying had already turned her phone screen towards her.

"This is your bar's revenue statement for this year, and there are some shady dealings in it. Your asset records are also here, with huge sums involved. With just a flick of my finger, the money could vanish and disappear into any account. Your bar's accounts have such a huge loophole; doesn't the manager know? We're kindly pointing this out, and this is hardly the courtesy you're showing?"

Li Mengying's attire today was also quite different. Her deliberately heavy makeup, accentuated by the colorful lights, highlighted her vibrant red lips. Her slim-fitting denim jacket and white sneakers gave her the look of a SWAT officer ready for action. When facing several security guards, she simultaneously displayed her pre-prepared search records and went into combat mode.

Seconds later, Fei and Li were surrounded by bodyguards. Behind the bodyguards' sunglasses, several pairs of eyes were watching the beautiful waitress in front of them, waiting for her to give orders.

The waitress was clearly stunned by the data Li Mengying presented. After looking at it carefully, she raised her hand to signal the bodyguard to leave.

"Gentlemen, regardless of whether the information you provided is true or false, you are not leaving here today."

The waitress took half a step back, making way for them.

"Please come with me."

At that moment, on the other end of the bar's surveillance camera, a man dressed in a martial arts uniform was watching everything unfold.

The waitress led the two to the door of a room on the third floor, around the corner. She carefully knocked three times, gently turned the lock, and gestured for them to enter. After they entered the room, she carefully closed the door and went back downstairs.

The walls of the room were covered with a dozen or so surveillance cameras of various sizes. A man dressed in a martial arts uniform was looking at the screens in front of him with his hands behind his back.

"It's really not easy for you guys to find this place."

The man turned around and politely smiled at Fei Li and her companion. Fei Li also politely nodded and bowed to the man, a confident smile returning to her face.

"Yes, Li Feng, we're really destined to meet."

At 123 Kulu Street, in a private club, Shui Mingyue sat alone in a private room, looking slightly anxious. She kept glancing at her watch; two hours had passed since the transaction was scheduled to take place, but no one had arrived. Bai Xin, who was keeping watch outside the club, already sensed that things were not going well.

"White Team, why haven't they arrived yet?"

The police officers standing nearby also sensed something was wrong and looked at Bai Xin with puzzled and anxious eyes.

"Don't rush, wait a little longer, maybe they're nearby."

Bai Xin's words made the police officer nervously swallow and look around.

Inside the private room, Shui Mingyue paced back and forth, reflecting on everything she had done. She recalled every detail and examined every loophole.

"arctic fox?"

Shui Mingyue suddenly looked up; "White Fox" was her code name.

"Who?"

"Haven't you been waiting for me?"

Hearing only their voice but not seeing them, a strange tension welled up inside me.

"Lone Shadow? Since you're here, show yourself."

"Meet me? We'll see if you're the person I need to meet. Shui Mingyue, an undercover police officer, is there any need to meet you?"

The sound reached Bai Xin's ears through the wireless earpiece; the seriousness of the situation left him no time to think. With a command, Bai Xin led his men quickly toward the target room.

"Bang!"

Bai Xin kicked open the door to the room, and what appeared before everyone was a disfigured person lying in the center of the room, with bright red blood spreading around. Shui Mingyue was nowhere to be seen.
