The lotus root is stewed until it's soft and tender, melting in your mouth; the pork ribs are tender and flavorful, bursting with meaty aroma.

Chen Hao added a suitable amount of salt and a little white pepper to the pot to enhance the flavor. After stirring well, he sprinkled on some chopped green onions, and a delicious pot of pork rib soup was ready.

Once all the dishes were finished, Chen Hao placed the steamed sea bass, braised pork ribs, garlic broccoli, and pork rib and lotus root soup on the table and arranged them neatly.

A steaming bowl of three dishes and a soup, a perfect balance of meat and vegetables, with appealing colors, aromas, and flavors, filling the table with the warm taste of home cooking.

Sisi was already irresistibly drawn in by the aroma and had been waiting at the kitchen door to watch.

At this moment, all the dishes were served, and she immediately ran over, lay down by the table, and slightly raised her little head.

Her little nose twitched as she greedily inhaled the aromas wafting from the table, her eyes sparkling with longing.

"It smells so good! Daddy, Sisi wants to eat it right now!"

The little guy couldn't help but swallow, his soft voice carrying a hint of urgency.

Chen Hao reached out and gently stroked her little nose, soothing her tenderly:

"Sweetie, wait a little longer. When Mom comes back, our whole family will eat together."

Upon hearing this, Sisi pouted slightly, a hint of disappointment on her face, but she was very sensible.

Knowing that she had to wait for her mother to come home so they could eat together, she nodded obediently and stood quietly by the table, no longer making a fuss about wanting to eat.

Time passed slowly, and soon it was three o'clock in the afternoon.

Chen Hao's phone, which was in the living room, suddenly vibrated. He picked it up and saw that it was a message from Lin Caiwei.

The message was very simple:

"I've landed. Siqi came to pick me up, let's go straight home."

Upon seeing the message, Chen Hao felt much more at ease and quickly replied with two words:

"it is good."

He put down his phone, turned around and went into the bedroom, changed out of his slightly oily-smelling pajamas, and put on a clean and fresh set of clothes.

Sisi couldn't wait any longer. She had already moved her little stool and sat upright at the entrance, her eyes fixed on the door, never leaving it for a moment, her heart and eyes filled with anticipation to see her mother.

Seeing Chen Hao come out, she immediately looked up and asked:

"Dad, has Mom arrived yet? Is she almost home?"

Chen Hao walked over, squatted down, looked at her, and said with a smile:

"We've arrived, we've landed, we'll be right back, just wait a little longer."

Sisi became even more excited after hearing this. She immediately stood up from the stool, stood on tiptoe, and tried to peer through the peephole in the door.

The little body stood on tiptoe, its neck stretched out, straining to look outside, trying to catch a glimpse of its mother as soon as possible.

I looked for a long time, but the hallway was quiet and there wasn't a single person in sight.

Undeterred, she obediently sat back on the small stool and continued to wait patiently, unwilling to leave the doorway for even a moment.

Seeing his daughter's determined look, Chen Hao felt a warmth in his heart. He didn't go up to disturb her and turned to walk back to the kitchen.

The food on the table had gone cold after sitting for a while, so he turned on the gas stove and reheated the pork rib soup until it boiled.

The remaining dishes were also reheated slightly to ensure that every bite Lin Caiwei ate when she returned would be hot and delicious.

About forty minutes later, the doorbell rang clearly.

Sisi jumped up from the stool like a spring, extremely excited. She stretched her little hand upwards and just reached the doorknob, then pulled it down with all her might.

The door opened with a click.

Lin Caiwei, whom we hadn't seen in a long time, was standing prominently at the entrance.

She was dressed simply and casually, in a clean white T-shirt and jeans, with a baseball cap on her head and a mask covering most of her face, revealing only a pair of clear and gentle eyes.

She carried a small suitcase in her hand and a handbag slung over her shoulder, looking travel-worn yet still gentle and graceful.

Chen Siqi, standing behind her, smiled and waved to Chen Hao, then turned and left without lingering.

The moment the door opened, Sisi was stunned. Her small body froze on the spot, her big eyes staring unblinkingly at the person at the door for two seconds.

Even though her mother covered most of her face, she still recognized the person she had been longing for day and night at a glance.

The next second, she couldn't hold back any longer, and suddenly pounced on him, shouting loudly:

"Mother!"

Lin Caiwei immediately squatted down, opened her arms, and tightly hugged her daughter who was rushing towards her.

Sisi wrapped her little arms tightly around her neck, burying her face in her shoulder, refusing to let go, as if afraid that her mother would disappear if she let go.

The little one's voice was filled with deep grievance and longing, soft and tinged with a sob:

"Mom, I miss you so much. I think about you every day, and I almost cry. I miss you so much..."

A few simple words instantly touched the softest spot in Lin Caiwei's heart.

Her eyes instantly reddened, her nose tingled slightly, and she tightened her arms, holding her daughter even closer.

His chin rested gently on Sisi's little head, his voice trembling with a distinct sob, both tender and hoarse:

"Mommy misses Sisi too. Mommy thinks about you every day, every moment."

The mother and daughter embraced tightly at the door and remained together for a long time.

The long-suppressed feelings finally burst forth at this moment, filling the quiet doorway with warmth.

After a while, Sisi slowly lifted her head from her mother's arms, her little hands carefully touching Lin Caiwei's cheeks.

She gently smoothed the hair behind her ear and carefully looked at her mother, whom she hadn't seen for a long time.

After scrutinizing her for a while, she frowned slightly and said earnestly:

"Mom, you've lost so much weight."

Lin Caiwei felt a warmth in her heart, a bittersweet feeling washing over her. She smiled and shook her head, but tears welled up in her eyes and streamed down her face.

"Mom hasn't lost weight, Sisi must be mistaken."

"I didn't see wrong! Absolutely not!" Sisi immediately shook her head vigorously, her tone exceptionally firm.

"Mom's face has gotten smaller, she's lost weight, Sisi can see it clearly!"

Just then, Chen Hao came out of the kitchen.

He wiped his hands, looked at the mother and daughter embracing at the door, and saw their expressions full of longing and tenderness. A gentle smile unconsciously appeared on his lips.

He spoke softly, "You're back?"

Lin Caiwei raised her reddened eyes and looked up at him.

Chen Hao was dressed in clean clothes, with an upright posture. He had just come out of the kitchen and still carried a faint smell of cooking.

The soft light fell on him, making his features appear exceptionally gentle, and giving people a sense of peace.

Her heart softened instantly, and all the fatigue from her journey seemed to vanish in that moment.

"Mmm." She nodded gently, her voice soft and docile. "You're back."

"You must be hungry after traveling all this way. Let's eat first. The food has just been heated up and is still warm."
