Greece: I am the master of destiny!
Chapter 64 The Curse Obtained Through Great Effort
As we all know, a dog that bites doesn't bark.
Although comparing the king of gods to a dog is somewhat inappropriate, that's truly how Prometheus felt at that moment.
Three hundred years have passed, and Cronus has somehow come to control most of the power of creation. Yet, he is now able to cater to the gods as if he had nothing before.
It's as if He is still as weak as ever, only able to live by the whims of the gods.
For this ability to endure, Cronus can be considered the best among the twelve Titans.
Unfortunately, the gods of this era were too naive; none of these Titans, except for Prometheus, could see that Cronus was feigning weakness.
They were completely unaware of any problem and simply felt that it was the proper way.
After greeting the gods, Cronus smiled and spoke:
"Thank you all for taking the time out of your busy schedules to attend this banquet celebrating the birth of Hestia. This is the first time we twelve Titans have gathered since we overthrew the tyrannical Lord of the skies, Uranus."
"Over the past three hundred years, thanks to everyone's hard work and dedication, the world has developed better and better."
"I, Cronus, the second-generation God-King, thank you all."
Cronus adopted a humble posture, even expressing gratitude in his tone, but the gods were not impressed.
The proud and radiant Hyperion even impatiently interrupted Him: "Cronus, let's get down to business. There are still many things in the endless starry sky that I need to decide. I can't be away for too long."
This is a typical example of someone who still thinks they are from the past. Not only did they completely disregard Cronus, the king of the gods, but they also treated the starry sky as their own property.
Prometheus watched Cronus's expression with great interest, and saw a fleeting shadow of gloom in the eyes of the god-king, which quickly disappeared.
He maintained his composed expression, and even the smile on his face remained unchanged. He nodded and then looked directly at Prometheus.
"God of Prophecy, did you mention three hundred years ago that the tyrannical Lord of the Heavens, Uranus, cursed you before his consciousness faded?"
"That's true," Prometheus nodded, acknowledging it.
"Then are you hiding the fact that Uranus's curse wasn't just on you, but also on other Titans?"
Kronos's gaze sharpened, and the other Titans' expressions also turned sour upon hearing this.
Especially the eight Titans who had already died once.
They were already dissatisfied with Prometheus, but because they had died once, a fear arose in their hearts that they themselves were unwilling to admit, so they did not dare to cause him any more trouble.
But now, under the fear of the curse, even if they didn't want to cause trouble for Him, they had no choice but to do so.
This is precisely why Cronus gathered them all here; he had anticipated this very psychology of theirs.
In Cronus's view, more than three hundred years had passed, and Prometheus had not revealed even a trace of the curse, which meant that He must be very reluctant to reveal it, or He had some other, greater motive.
Cronus could only obtain the contents of the curse by getting the gods to join him in pressuring the gods.
He even considered many versions of this story and was prepared to confront Prometheus head-on today.
But what He never expected was...
He had barely uttered his opening remarks, and before he could even launch into his prepared discourse, Prometheus spoke:
"Uranus, the Lord of the Heavens, did indeed leave behind a curse, and it was indeed a curse upon me, but He thought I would become the King of the Gods, so the curse did not fall upon me..."
He didn't finish speaking, but the meaning was already quite clear, and the Titans looked at each other in bewilderment.
Although Cronus was surprised that Prometheus had said it so easily, his suspicions were finally confirmed.
Sure enough, it's related to the position of God-King.
Upon hearing this, Cronus, the god of the heavens, looked directly at Cronus and asked without any politeness, "Cronus, is that so?"
"I can certainly feel the curse upon me, but I'm not sure if it's only affecting me," said Cronus. "I invited my brothers here because I feared I wasn't the only one cursed."
As He spoke, He looked at Prometheus once more: "But I wonder, God of Prophecy, are you willing to reveal the contents of this curse?"
Upon hearing this, the gods immediately turned their attention to Prometheus.
They felt that Cronus was right. Whether the curse was only aimed at the King of Gods or at all the Titans, they still needed to know the contents of the curse.
But facing the oppressive gazes of the gods, Prometheus simply smiled and casually said, "I swear, this curse applies only to the King of Gods and has nothing to do with the other gods."
Before he could finish speaking, the laws of the world responded to Prometheus.
The oath was made, and what He said was true.
Seeing this, the gods breathed a sigh of relief. Even the most impatient Titans were no longer in a hurry and instead showed expressions of anticipation for the show.
Although he could no longer use the gods as a pretext, Cronus was not angry, or rather, he had expected this to happen.
So He used the words He had prepared beforehand.
"Since this curse is directed at the God-King, then as the God-King, I must ask you, God of Prophecy, could you please reveal the contents of this curse?"
By asking this question openly and honestly in front of the gods, Cronus felt he could seize the initiative.
After all, He was the god-king chosen by the gods, representing their face and being key to protecting the interests of the Titans. If Prometheus still refused to tell Him about the curse, it would be considered an infringement on the interests of the Titans.
However, to show his generosity, Cronus still politely said, "God of Prophecy, if you are willing to tell me the contents of the curse, I can swear here and now, as the king of gods, that I will grant you one request that is not excessive."
Uranus (the heavens) is my witness that Cronus was just being polite; he felt that his relationship with Prometheus was so bad that there was no way Prometheus would agree to it.
In the end, they will definitely have to join forces with the gods to forcibly extract the contents of the curse; no amount of benefits will help.
But something completely unexpected happened again.
Prometheus nodded decisively, as if afraid that the curse might change its mind, and said, "Alright, it's a deal then. You grant me one reasonable request, and I'll tell you the contents of the curse."
Kronos: "?"
Cronus froze on the spot, momentarily at a loss for words.
Prometheus couldn't help but feel pity for this fellow who was so eager to use benefits to secure his own demise.
The thought of how much he could achieve with this casual, small request made Prometheus...
I feel even more sorry for Cronus.
