America, starting as a trainee police officer
Chapter 20 Human Nature
Nolan gripped his gun tightly, nervously patrolling the area around the rooftop.
"7-A-07, calling for air support. An armed suspect is suspected of stealing the emergency helicopter from the rooftop of St. Gregory Hospital. Request immediate dispatch to intercept."
Li Wei's voice came through the radio.
Hearing that the suspect had left the hospital, Nolan breathed a sigh of relief and was about to put the gun back in the butt.
The next second, a cold, hard gun barrel was pressed against the back of his head.
"Don't move. Drop your gun."
Nolan took a deep breath and refused the other party's request: "No, but I will put the gun aside."
After saying that, he put the gun back into the buttstock.
Seeing that the other party did not make any extreme moves, Kay de Villa did not react.
Having holstered his gun, Nolan slowly raised his hands: "Okay, now what's your plan?"
It would be a lie to say I wasn't nervous.
Nolan had been trained not to panic, but he was still very nervous.
"I'll shoot you, then wait until the police in the hospital clear out to chase the helicopter, and then find a chance to leave."
"Could I have another suggestion?"
Before Nolan could finish speaking, Kay de Villa shook his head immediately: "No..."
But even after she refused, Nolan didn't stop: "Listen, we're complete strangers, right? I only learned about you from an internal wanted poster."
"Wounded on the battlefield during two terms of service."
"You are a true American hero!"
Hearing Nolan's words, Kay de Villa felt only immense irony.
She scoffed, "I'm about to blast a hole in your head, and you still think I'm a hero?"
"Yes!"
After Nolan finished speaking, he took a deep breath.
Kay de Villa was also stunned. She tried to convince herself that the other party was just lying to her, but Nolan's tone was so sincere that it didn't sound like a lie.
As for whether it's true or not, only Nolan himself probably knows.
"Yes, you wouldn't do that."
"My internship supervisor once said that no one is perfect. People only become kind when everything is going smoothly. But once things get tough, people make the wrong decisions."
"Once and again, soon you will find no trace of humanity left in your body."
She said that once the bottom line is crossed, there is no turning back.
Feeling the gun barrel press forward against his head, Nolan's voice trembled with nervousness: "But... I don't... believe in this stuff. I... I think you can turn back."
"When things get to a critical point in our bureau's affairs, truly good people will always make the right choice."
"Listen, if I'm wrong, then kill me."
After saying that, Nolan slowly turned around.
When he was halfway through his turn, he said, "But if I'm right, please don't cross the line and stop here."
Just as Kay de Villa was moved by Nolan's speech and was hesitating...
Li Wei's voice rang out: "A good speech."
The voices of the third party distracted Kay de Villar; she momentarily lost her focus and instinctively turned to look at the voices of support.
boom!
A gunshot rang out, and Kay de Villar's hand, which was gripping the gun, was pierced by Levi's Glock 17, leaving a bloody hole.
Blood splattered all over her and Nolan's faces.
If [First Strike Guaranteed] hadn't been on cooldown, Li Wei wouldn't have needed to spend so much time slowly approaching the prisoner.
(The Glock 17's accurate firing range is only 50 meters.)
Taking advantage of Kay de Villa's pain, Levi rushed forward and slammed her against the wall.
With a loud thud, Kay de Villa's head slammed heavily against the concrete wall, and he immediately lost consciousness.
Li Wei took out handcuffs and, with two clicks, cuffed her.
Mission Completed: Arrest Kay de Villa. Reward: Medium Red Bottle x1
"Do you really believe what you just said?"
As he pulled the suspect up, Li Wei looked at Nolan with curiosity.
The main problem is that his remarks sounded too much like that of a pushover; such a personality isn't suitable for being a police officer.
"Uh, mostly, I guess." Nolan breathed a sigh of relief after seeing the criminal arrested, and stood aside panting heavily.
"Really? Do you think such a vicious person would have any conscience hidden deep inside?"
Li Wei was somewhat dismissive of it.
"Nolan! Are you alright?!" Bishop rushed over at that moment.
Seeing that Nolan was alright, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. She had been terrified when Nolan went silent on the radio.
In the current patrol team, only she and Angela are preparing for the exam to be promoted to detective. If the rookie she is leading were to die in the line of duty at this point, it would be a major blunder on her resume and would directly affect her promotion to detective.
"I'm fine, sir."
He continued to breathe heavily, and after a long while, he looked at Li Wei: "Regarding that question, I think my answer is: Yes, I think they still have a conscience."
Back in police academy, Nolan knew that Levi wasn't the type to believe Kay de Villa still had humanity; he was saying this more to himself.
He's the type who believes in the inherent goodness of human nature.
Upon hearing this, Li Wei glanced at Nolan, then at Bishop beside him, but said nothing.
After all, Nolan's TO is Bishop, so it's not his place to say these things.
"What problem?" Bishop looked at Nolan with some curiosity.
...
Central Wilshire Precinct.
After changing out of his police uniform, Li Wei stretched. It was time to deal with that scumbag Frank.
"Hey, Li Wei. Want to grab a drink?"
Upon hearing this, Li Wei looked toward the source of the sound and saw Lucy Chen, Wade West, and John Nolan standing there.
The four of them were classmates at the police academy.
"Sure. I know a new place, I'll take you there."
Since we're going to find Frank anyway, it won't hurt to take them to Allebai while we're at it.
...
Aleba.
"Wow, I didn't expect there to be a place like this. It's a bit run-down, but the atmosphere is nice."
When Lucy came in, she looked at the somewhat outdated decorations of Alaba.
The four of them chose a table and sat down.
A moment later, Kate, another bartender besides Kevin, came over: "Hey, good evening, what would you like to drink?"
She did not know Li Wei.
"Give me a beer."
After ordering, Li Wei looked around the bar.
Sure enough, Frank's figure was spotted not far away.
Frank and Karen's father, Eddie, were sitting together.
"Frank, I don't know what you're thinking, but I've realized we're both victims. We work so hard, raise our children, and what's the result?"
Li Wei and his group were not far from the two, and since Eddie was speaking quite loudly, they could hear everything clearly.
"I was just kicked out of my house like that, and that bitch Sheila wants a divorce! God!"
"She's obsessed with sex and cooking shows every day, trying every possible way to get the maximum benefits from the government, and now she wants to squeeze child support out of me. Jesus."
Frank was only sitting there because Eddie was offering him free drinks.
He showed absolutely no concern for Eddie's life.
But he was very concerned about how to exploit the government.
"What benefits?"
