Chapter 97 Bianca's Fear

After a period of time.

Early in the morning, Bianca was almost paralyzed in bed.

"Heavy gift crab—why do you feel like you have more energy again? Did you take some medicine?"

Bianca looked at Levi with a hint of fear.

Li Wei remained silent, looking at his 111 stamina points.

If it exceeds 100 points, it's highly likely that it has broken through the human peak.

It's normal that Bianca couldn't handle it.

"Maybe you're just weak. Eat more to replenish your energy and exercise, okay? I'm going to the police station now."

Li Wei smiled slightly, got up and left Bianca.

Police station.

During this period, Levi did not take any action regarding Frank's matter.

Karen urged him several times, but he refused each time, saying he hadn't found a suitable solution yet.

This girl, all she ever does is take advantage of people.

-

Levi plans to wait until Frank commits another crime before deciding how to handle the situation.

Now I'm back to my normal shifts and patrols.

"Hey, are you happy to be back on the day shift?"

At the door, Nolan ran into Lucy, who had just entered.

"Jesus, of course. I don't know if you've heard, but the night shift—"

Lucy has been suffering terribly from working the night shift lately.

Before Lucy could finish speaking, Nolan opened his coat, revealing a T-shirt underneath with an embarrassing photo of Lucy working the night shift printed on it.

"Tim's custom-made short-sleeved shirt."

"It's definitely him, no doubt about it." Lucy wasn't surprised at all.

Looking at Lucy's blank expression on her T-shirt, who had just woken up and didn't know what had happened.

Li Wei laughed out loud in a very impolite way.

"Stop! Just wait until you experience working the night shift, you won't be any better off than me!"

As they spoke, the three of them walked inside.

They encountered West, who had changed into a police uniform.

"Good morning."

"Wow, why are you here so early?" Nolan was a little surprised to see West.

"Hey, if I don't get up early, I'll definitely be late."

Behind them, Lucy, walking alongside Li Wei, was clearly disgusted by such words: "These kinds of words are pretty boring."

"Why is she unhappy?"

West pointed at Lucy, then looked at Levi and Nolan.

Nolan didn't say anything, but simply opened his coat.

Upon seeing the embarrassing photo of Lucy on his jacket, West immediately understood: "Oh, I'm wearing a short-sleeved shirt too!"

Lucy shook her head: "This has nothing to do with short sleeves! Although it's a annoying thing. I can't find a place to live."

West, a third-generation police officer, didn't hesitate and blurted out, "You can move back home."

"No! It really won't work!" Lucy quickly denied.

"Then you can stay at Nolan's house for a few nights; his house is a mansion."

Currently, Nolan is still living in the home of his wealthy friend Ben.

"Hey, it's not a mansion, just a guest room inside. But if you want to borrow my sofa for a few nights, that's no problem."

Nolan corrected him.

But clearly, Lucy just wants to rent a cheap and comfortable house right now.

"Thanks, but my mind is made up. I'm going to find a comfortable, clean, and reasonably priced place to live, no matter what!"

After changing their clothes, the group arrived at the conference room to prepare for roll call.

Only Nolan was a step behind.

When he got to his seat, he found Superintendent Gray sitting there.

"Oh no, Officer Nolan. You'll be leading the roll call this morning."

Gray pointed to the podium.

"Sir?" Nolan was a little confused, wondering what had happened.

"I've made myself clear enough, now go up and begin your presentation."

Gray looked at Nolan with a serious expression, clearly not joking.

Reluctantly, Nolan had no choice but to bite the bullet and walk onto the podium.

-

The police officers below the stage all let out strange noises.

"and then?"

Nolan stood on the podium, looking somewhat flustered.

From below the stage, Gray reminded them, "Look at the briefing board."

Upon hearing this, Nolan picked up the briefing board and began reading the prepared statement: "Internal circulation document from the Chief to all branch offices."

"Complaints about police misconduct have been increasing daily in recent months —"

At that moment, Gray raised his hand from the audience.

"Sir?"

Nolan stopped reading from his prepared remarks and looked at Gray.

"Do you even know what that means? The authority of a police officer?"

"I'm guessing this statement is related to abusing one's power for personal gain—something like freeloading?"

What is the LAPD's policy regarding gifts?

"Officers are prohibited from accepting any form of gift, favor, or agreed-upon return, or knowingly using influence or bias in exchange for payment, or misleading investigations or the punishment of illegal acts."

Nolan put in a lot of effort in his studies and memorized the regulations perfectly.

But regulations are regulations, and reality is reality.

LAPD officers are not uncommon in their practice of extorting money and favors.

Of course, many of these are done voluntarily by the so-called vendors.

This would allow for more police officers to patrol the area.

However, if we were to strictly investigate this, it would be considered a violation of the regulations.

In most cases, LAPD turns a blind eye.

Police salaries are already low; if these hidden benefits are completely removed, then probably not many people in Los Angeles would want to be police officers. "Well said!"

Gray clapped his hands and looked to the side: "Chen, Li, West, could you join Nolan on the stage?"

A short while later, four rookie officers from the patrol team stood on the podium.

"Have your instructors discussed this policy with you?"

"Yes, sir." ×4

"Tell me about your experience with ordering takeout?"

Before Li Wei and the others could answer, Lopez, who was sitting in the back, raised his hand: "Sir, may I say something?"

"Oh? Sounds like you're desperate to make excuses for the newcomer?" Gray glanced back at Lopez.

"No, sir, I've always kept to myself with the new recruits. But businessmen like it when the police come to their door, even if it's just half price for meals, it's just a matter of maintaining good community relations."

Tim added, "That doesn't mean we police officers will be biased because of this."

"Do you agree with this view, Officer Bishop?"

Gray looked at Bishop, wanting to hear her opinion.

"I can't say I've never accepted free coffee from someone. But that's an exception, not the norm."

"And you, Officer Nolan?"

Gray eventually turned his attention to Nolan.

"I became a police officer to serve the people, not to seek personal gain."

To be fair, there's absolutely no problem with Nolan saying he's lawful good.

Li Wei knew that Chun Chun was a genuinely kind-hearted person.

"That's quite a boast, self-praise."

Gray was amused by these words.

Only Nolan stood there, his face serious: "No, that's not it."

Hearing this, Gray was a little skeptical: "Really? Did you ever pay market price for your beach mansion?"

"No, sir, but when I left home, I checked in as a housekeeper. Strictly speaking, I exchanged services for the house."

"What if one day the other party feels that the effort wasn't worth it? Or what if your good buddy gets a ticket—or something even worse?"
