Chapter 20 The Dwarf with a Story

Under the command of the dwarves, the minotaur apprentices chanted in unison and carried out heavy, hardwood boxes one after another.

Soon the ground was covered with a pile of brown boxes. The dwarf used a crowbar to pry off the rivets one by one, opened the lids, and revealed the weapons buried in the dry straw.

These boxes were full of brand-new, gleaming silver spears. The protective wax applied to them showed that the dwarves had taken great care of these weapons; this was definitely not the treatment that defective products would receive.

The old dwarf jumped down from the stool at the front desk, picked up a prism spear from the box, and proudly introduced it: "This is a new type of javelin we have developed, also called a prism spear. The spearhead is specially made of high-quality steel into a three-sided cone. When it is stuck in the flesh, it will form a prism-shaped cavity that is very difficult to heal."

"What a sinister intention!" Richard was somewhat surprised. The spearhead of this prismatic spear was similar to the triangular bayonet of his previous life, except that the spearhead was not twisted to form a spiral.

"This was specially designed for those huge enemies. Even ogres, known for their defense and regeneration, won't have a good ending if they get shot."

"Although this is only the first batch and has not yet been tested on the battlefield, esteemed guest, believe me, the Kingdom of Empe has no better javelins than these."

The old dwarf gently thrust the spear forward, and it embedded itself into the chest of the scarecrow clad in leather armor without the slightest hesitation, as if slicing a bean curd.

"Such an excellent weapon should theoretically cost at least ten gold coins, but considering that it hasn't seen much combat, and that the dwarves firmly believe that a weapon with a unique spirit will eventually find its most suitable master, I'll take the liberty of charging you five gold coins per weapon for the sake of your followers."

The old dwarf glanced at the panda warriors who were idly picking their butts and said this.

For dwarven blacksmiths, the real fear isn't unsold weapons, but weapons ending up in the hands of penniless scoundrels.

These Behemoths are all muscle-bound; anyone in the know can tell at a glance that they are all formidable characters.

Only in their hands can the spear unleash its true power, and perhaps even gain them great fame.

With just a few words, I saved nearly a thousand gold coins in an instant.

Richard would be the first to disagree if anyone said that dwarves were greedy.

Anyway, Richard now found the short, stocky man quite pleasing to the eye: "How should I address this elder?"

Dwarves have extremely long lifespans, usually living for over four hundred years. Some dwarves who still look like little kids might be Richard's grandfather by now, while the short, stocky guy in front of me is clearly showing signs of aging and is quite old.

"Nite Goldbeard," the long-bearded old dwarf said calmly.

Upon hearing the name, Sylvie, standing beside her, was the first to express her surprise: "I never imagined that our respected elder was actually of dwarven royal lineage!"

Thanks to his predecessor's interest in studying the culture and history of each race, Richard also has memories related to dwarf surnames.

Dwarves are divided into many clans. Generally, powerful clans establish their own kingdoms, while slightly weaker clans live together in a single kingdom.

The Longbeard Clan was undoubtedly one of the three major dwarf clans, and these short, stout people were absolutely loyal to their clan and traditions.

Therefore, surnames are also very important. People with the surname Goldbeard are royalty in the Longbeard clan, while those with the surname Bronzebeard are nobles, and those with the surname Ironbeard are ordinary dwarf families.

"Three hundred years ago, the dwarves fought a war against a dragon kingdom. I heard that the Longbeard Clan dwarves displayed great prowess in that war, and their brave and fearless Ironfoot Army shattered the dragon's courage. It was truly an epic battle that swept through the land." Richard did not hold back his praise.

The old dwarf, Nate, who was busy calculating the number of weapons, suddenly looked up and stared intently at the prince upon hearing this.

"You've shattered the dragon's courage? Ha, our Longbeard Clan... never mind, never mind, what do you know, you're just a kid who's not even ten generations older than my great-great-grandson." Nite waved his hand dismissively, sighed, and went through the back door, leaving only a few young dwarves to entertain the guests.

Before long, a pungent smell of smoke wafted into the hall from the back door.

Could it be that this dwarf king once had a beloved?

Then the young, bald dwarf opened the remaining wooden crates.

Richard pulled a nearly 1.5-meter-long waist knife from the box and weighed it in his hand.

It was heavier than he had imagined, and the handle was made of hard birch wood with a smooth, rounded surface.

However, the hilt was noticeably several sizes too thick for Richard, clearly a model specially chosen for the Panda Warriors, a group of burly men who were all over 2.1 meters tall.

A dark bronze iron ring, engraved with the cloud-patterned symbols unique to dwarves, was wrapped around the joint between the blade and the hilt. This served both to reinforce the blade and to avoid looking out of place.

He tried to twirl the knife a few times, and the center of gravity of the waist knife was perfectly balanced. With a flick of his wrist, the knife seemed to come alive, and the hall was filled with dazzling flashes of its blade.

The dwarfs were terrified, and it was only because of their height that they escaped unharmed.

Richard abruptly stopped the knife, leaving it suspended in mid-air. An innocent fly was crawling on the blade, its transparent wings neatly cut at the edge.

The dwarves stared wide-eyed, their mouths agape, as if they could fit a shooting star inside.

They had no idea that this young man in front of them possessed such sharp swordsmanship; it was simply too amazing!

This flashy display was absolutely brilliant, and the panda warriors instantly erupted in thunderous applause and cheers.

The quality of the waist knife is absolutely superb; it truly lives up to its reputation as a dwarf product.

"Honorable guests, do you still need the leather armor?" The young dwarf's heart was pounding with fear, and it took him a while to calm down.

"Of course." Richard nodded.

Even in the regular army of the Kingdom of Empe, few troops are equipped with heavy plate armor for all their soldiers. The high cost is secondary; the most important thing is that each piece of plate armor is made to individual dimensions, which is extremely time-consuming.

Even the best craftsmen can only produce one or two sets of plate armor per month at most.

Therefore, leather armor, which is loved by both mercenaries and adventurers, is another cost-effective option.

So the dwarves brought out 181 sets of swamp lizard leather armor, decorated with iron mortises.

"Dear guest, the swamp lizard leather armor costs thirty gold coins, plus a waist knife and a spear, totaling nine thousand and fifty gold coins. I'll round it down to nine thousand gold coins."

The young dwarf spoke cautiously.

Richard's smile vanished instantly.

That's five thousand gold coins! Enough for him to buy several elven girls and orc girls and live a decadent life of debauchery.
