Chapter 22 Life, Oh Life
Richard, who was generous with other people's money, accepted West Germany's praise without any psychological burden.
"Don't worry about food. We're not so poor that you need to worry about that yet." Richard then took out the hundred or so gold coins he had just gotten from Prince Anduin and handed them to Sid: "Go and buy some. Remember to check the bookstalls for any currently popular books and bring me back a few."
"Yes, sir."
Richard's generosity was genuine; although he was penniless, the Rommel family was one of the wealthiest families in the Kingdom of Empe.
He believed that Prince Anduin, who had already sunk his costs, would never stand by and watch him become destitute and unable to even support his followers.
If you can give away five thousand gold coins without hesitation and marry off your daughter without a second thought, would you really hesitate to invest a little more money?
Richard certainly knew that there's no such thing as a free lunch, and that good or bad things don't happen without a reason.
Prince Anduin certainly had designs on him, but often the use of each other is mutual.
He is actually the one in control until the other party achieves its goal.
These past two days, he mainly let the panda warriors recuperate, as their long years of slavery had secretly depleted their robust physiques.
Logically speaking, it would take at least a few months to recover to its previous state, but thanks to the fact that all the panda warriors joined the team and received the system's blessing, its body recovered almost completely in just two days.
On the other hand, Prince Anduin was instructed to prepare ships to travel from Beringburg to High Cliffs.
It's worth mentioning that the advancement path for the Panta Pandaren starts from the lowest-ranking Panta Royal Guard, and progresses up the line through the ranks of Panta Drunkard, Panta Warrior, Panta Berserker, Panta War Dancer, and finally, Panta Drunk Dragon Warrior.
There is a unique route leading up from the Panta Warriors – the Panta Wandering Monks.
The route is monotonous, but it's definitely full of potential.
These Panta warriors were all recognized by the system as Tier 3 Panta warriors, while Sid was a hero unit like Sylvie, with an SSR rarity.
Before leaving, Richard wanted to go to a tavern, a step that no veteran Mount & Blade player can avoid.
What if the tavern also regularly refreshes with fresh Yamira?
All told, he only has two hero units by his side now, which is really too meager.
So, as evening approached, Richard changed into casual clothes and went out. Actually, Sylvie and several attendants originally wanted to come along, but he casually dismissed them, only taking Sid, this towering man, with him.
In this world, entertainment options are scarce for ordinary people, and pubs, which are open to the public, are extremely popular places where people can chat, gossip, and grab a shot of strong liquor.
So at night, Baiya's tavern is packed with people. The tavern is surrounded by mercenaries, rangers, and female adventurers with round buttocks wrapped in leather pants, all reeking of sour smells.
Richard even spotted a half-elf like Sylvie, who looked to be only about fifteen or sixteen years old, wearing faded leather armor and carrying a jungle bow.
He was talking to two equally inexperienced and embarrassed partners.
Richard's excellent hearing allowed him to see everything clearly.
"This mission to rescue the stray cats in the village is worth fifty copper coins. Lillian can get a maximum of twenty coins for her efforts, and we'll split the rest between us."
"Yay, I can have a big glass of iced ale later."
"Waite, you're so extravagant! What if you don't get a mission tomorrow? You'll go hungry!"
"We should worry about tomorrow tomorrow and enjoy life while we can, don't you agree, Lillian?"
"I'm going to save this money, take on a few more quests, and then I can get a new jungle bow," the half-elf girl said shyly, putting the copper coins into her cute green purse and carefully tucking it into a lining of her clothes.
Adventurers aren't as romantic as depicted in chivalric novels; on the contrary, it's a particularly arduous form of freelance work.
Adventurers are often composed of a group of young people with no status and weak strength, who take on all sorts of odd jobs in order to support their families.
This includes things like finding cats and rescuing children who have fallen into the water.
Clearing out goblin bandits roaming around villages is a rare task, usually only available to highly skilled adventurer teams.
Adventurers like those in novels who casually form teams to slay dragons and save the world only exist in daydreams.
Because those who are capable of slaying dragons would never bother with such childish games.
Of course, it cannot be ruled out that there are some idle people who would pretend to be weak to take advantage of others.
"Sid, what is your dream?" Richard, touched by this youthful naiveté, couldn't help but ask the panda warrior beside him.
"I once dreamed of becoming the greatest brewer in the Panta tribe, but in the end I only reached the level of an apprentice." Sid recalled and couldn't help but sigh.
"Because of a banquet, all the tribesmen who drank the wine I brewed got drunk."
"Doesn't this just prove your superior skills?" Richard asked, looking puzzled.
"They slept for three days and three nights! And the Panta people never get drunk; strong liquor only makes us more clear-headed, and the strongest in the tribe can even enter a state of drunken berserk state, an ability that only a very few Pandaren warriors can master."
Richard fell silent. So you brewed a whole jar of sleeping potion, huh?
"Sir, what about yours?" Sid asked curiously.
"I used to plan to be a folk human anatomy researcher, but now I'm a prince. To be honest, life doesn't feel right." Richard raised his hand, looking at the Augustus Dragon Ring on his hand that proved his identity, his expression complicated.
"A toast to this mismatched life!"
So the two went into a treehouse bar, where the prince ordered two large glasses of iced rye and they clinked glasses.
After a few drinks of low-alcohol beverages, Sid only burped once. The Panta people never get drunk, but to his surprise, the seemingly frail prince didn't change at all, just like after drinking a few glasses of water.
This made West Germany admire him even more.
The tavern was filled with ordinary mercenaries and rangers, just a group of young adventurers; there was no one Richard was looking for.
Hero units that are recognized by the system are often outstanding individuals like West Germany, whose unique qualities can be easily spotted in a crowd.
The other party was like a firefly in the night sky, shining with its own light, and was not someone that some lowlife could impersonate.
Richard wasn't exactly disappointed; it was more like it was expected.
If a hero could be found so easily, then heroes would be beneath their dignity.
