0047, Deadly Threat
"Viper, that's the Hong Kong Island Police!"
"What are you afraid of? The boss has already cleared our identities; we are now law-abiding citizens."
Viper straightened his collar, looked at Ma Jun and his group striding towards him, and said in a low voice, "Don't say a word or make any rash moves later."
"Understood, boss!"
Ma Jun walked up to Viper, looked him up and down, and then showed his badge: "Police officers, please show your identification and cooperate with the investigation."
Viper chuckled, took out his identification, and waved a finger. The remaining thirty-odd people, as if receiving a signal, simultaneously pulled out their own identification.
Ma Jun's pupils constricted slightly at the sight.
"Officer, we're all law-abiding citizens," Viper said with a chuckle. "We're here on Hong Kong Island to do business. Hong Kong Island has a rather unique way of welcoming business people."
Ma Jun looked at the document in his hand. He couldn't make heads or tails of it, but tracing its origins revealed that everything was legal and compliant.
The documents show that Viper is a Hong Kong Island resident living in Australia. His education and life story are those of an ordinary person, with nothing particularly special about him.
The other officers also checked the identities of the other people and got similar results.
On the surface, this group of people appears to be just ordinary people, and everything they do is traceable, legal, and compliant.
But the more this was the outcome, the more somber Ma Jun's mood became.
On his way here, he had already investigated the identities of Viper and several other leaders. He knew very well that Viper was a ruthless killer in Africa and was proficient in many military skills such as firearms, demolition, and assault.
This group of people went to great lengths to abandon their original identities and legally launder their identities.
What kind of background would allow someone to do something like this?
Given such a large background, how could it be that a hundred mercenaries entering Hong Kong Island at once was just for business?
"You don't mind if we take photos for our records, do you?" Ma Jun handed the documents back to Viper.
"Is this standard procedure?" Viper asked with a chuckle.
This is certainly not a standard procedure, and it's even illegal.
Ma Jun frowned slightly, about to make his point clear and warn Viper.
To his surprise, Viper waved his hand before he could even speak, saying, "It doesn't matter! We're perfectly aboveboard and willing to cooperate with the police."
"Everyone, please cooperate with the officers for the photo!"
"Yes!" the crowd shouted in unison, their voices loud and clear.
Ma Jun's expression froze again.
He was prepared for the viper to be arrogant, provocative, and even insulting, but to his surprise, the viper cooperated completely.
But it wasn't a passive compliance; the resounding "Yes!" in unison was a silent protest.
Both sides knew what the other wanted to do, but neither revealed their intentions.
This viper was even more difficult to deal with than Ma Jun had imagined.
He took a deep breath and said, "Very good, thank you for your cooperation."
Next, the police started taking photos of everyone, and everyone smiled brightly at the photos, showing no sign of displeasure whatsoever.
"Where are the others who entered the country with you?" Ma Jun suddenly asked.
Viper put on an innocent look: "Officer, I have no obligation to tell you this. I only speak for myself."
Ma Jun looked at him intently: "If you're truly here in Hong Kong to do legitimate business, I welcome you. But if not... I'll be keeping a close eye on you!"
Viper flashed a harmless smile: "Officer, once my company opens, I'll register it with the police station. I'm also planning to apply for a police-community cooperation license. We're practically acquaintances now, so can I come see you then?"
Ma Jun asked in surprise, "You want to start a company? Could you tell me what industry you'll be in?"
"A security company," Viper said frankly. "We're not very capable; we're just here to guard the place for our bosses. By the way, if we're applying for a gun license, do we have to go through the police process?"
Ma Jun remained silent for a while, then said, "I'll leave you my number. If you really want to do this, call me anytime."
"Alright," Viper laughed. "I'll definitely trouble you, sir, then."
Viper and the others quickly passed the inspection and walked out of the dock together.
Ma Jun watched these people leave, his expression shifting between anger and uncertainty.
"Officer Ma, could they really be here on Hong Kong Island to do business?" one policeman couldn't help but ask. "Maybe they're just tired of fighting and killing and are coming to Hong Kong Island to retire."
Ma Jun said, "You believe wolves don't eat meat? They must have another purpose! Tell the brothers to keep a close eye on them! Also, what about the others who came with them?"
"I was just about to report to you," the policeman said. "Most of the remaining people dispersed after leaving the dock. Our men followed them for a while, but then lost track of them."
"These people are all soldiers; they have strong counter-surveillance capabilities. It's not surprising that we lost track of them," Ma Jun said gravely. "Such a pack of wolves lurking in the shadows... if they're really plotting something, this could be a disaster!"
The police officer said, "However, there are three more, the ones you previously asked us to keep a close eye on. They got into a car together, and our men are still following them. They seem to have noticed us, but they don't seem to be trying to shake off our paparazzi."
"Which three?" Ma Jun asked.
"Rose, wasps, and bread," the policeman said. "There was another person in the car with them, someone you know well—Ah Bao, the Vietnamese gangster who caused a ruckus at Johnny's Club last night."
Ma Jun froze, his expression blank.
He seemed to hear a name he shouldn't have heard at this moment.
"Who did you say?" he asked again.
"Ah Bao, a member of the Vietnamese gang," the police officer repeated. "His real name is Yu Li, and his original address was in Tai Hing Village, Tuen Mun. He now lives in a luxury apartment in Imperial Garden. He bought this house a year ago. The funds came from legitimate income from the stock market."
After a pause, the police officer said with some disbelief, "Speaking of which, this guy is quite extraordinary. Besides a property, he also owns three shops in Central, making his net worth over 100 million. He's made so much in just two years; no wonder everyone calls him a little stock market genius!"
"Why would someone like that decide to join a gang?"
Ma Jun's heart was filled with a tremendous surge of emotions.
"You said he has assets worth over 100 million?" Ma Jun's voice changed.
If his subordinate hadn't explained it so clearly, he would have even suspected that the Yu Li he knew and this Yu Li were two completely different people!
He was from the Major Crimes Unit. After recruiting Yu Li as an informant, he never investigated Yu Li's information again, since such an investigation had already been conducted before their first meeting.
The investigation at the time showed that Yu Li was just an ordinary Hong Kong hoodlum.
My father was a gambler, my mother ran a dessert shop, my younger sister was in secondary school, and we lived in a public housing estate.
This kind of person is a reflection of most of the lower-class youths on Hong Kong Island; otherwise, they wouldn't have joined the gang and been recruited as informants.
But now, the newly established investigation team is at a higher level and can directly access deep internal files.
The police officer who spoke to him was from the police intelligence investigation department. After learning that Yu Li was in the same car as Qiangwei and the others, he immediately conducted a comprehensive investigation into his background information and came to this conclusion.
"I need to see all the information about Li now!" Ma Jun said urgently. "Right now!"
"Okay, I'll arrange for someone to bring it over right away," the policeman said.
"Also, find out where Yu Li and the others are!" Ma Jun added.
Soon after, news arrived that Yu Li and his group had entered the Dijingyuan residential area.
"Let's go to Imperial Garden now!" Ma Jun said in a deep voice. "Have the person delivering the files meet us there!"
"Officer Ma..." the policeman hesitated for a moment before saying, "We can't go into Imperial Garden. The people living there are all very rich and powerful. Unless someone calls the police, or we have a search warrant or an arrest warrant, we don't have the right to go in."
Ma Jun took a deep breath and said, "It's okay, let's go first."
What he didn't say was that he would arrange to meet Yu Li.
He couldn't understand why he would become an informant if Yu Lizhen's identity was so complicated.
Why would he know this group of newly arrived mercenaries?
What kind of conspiracy does Yu Li have?
The more I thought about it, the more confused I became, feeling like I was shrouded in a thick fog.
Meanwhile, on the top floor of an office building in Tsuen Wan, three Vietnamese brothers and four other people, including Hua Sheng, are facing unusual negotiations.
Sitting opposite them were two other leaders of the Number Gang, Four-Eyes and Baldy, along with their trusted subordinates.
"Ah Zha, you should all understand why I called you brothers here today." Four-Eyes' expression was serious. "We've watched you three brothers grow up since you were little. The Great Hero is, after all, your uncle. And now, that Ah Bao under your command dares to treat him like this?"
"That freak blasted the hero's back door and even dared to team up with the cops to take him down!" the bald man roared. "Martial arts matters should be settled within the martial arts world. What kind of gangster is this? I seriously suspect that this Ah Bao is a ghost planted by the cops! You have to give me an explanation for this!"
"And the casino money!" Four-Eyes said through gritted teeth, his face contorted with hatred. "I have connections in the cops. They say the cops took a few million from one shipment, but what about the rest? There's a share of that money for us, and a share for the big fish in the cops. You can't swallow it all! Ah Zha, I'm giving you a piece of advice: you have to spit that money out!"
Ah Zha and Tony exchanged a glance, and the former chuckled and said, "Uncle Baldy, Uncle Four-Eyes, don't be so angry. To be honest, this is all your fault. You were the ones who smashed up my Brilliant Club first, and you even colluded with an inside man to persuade Boss Huang to drive us out of business."
After a pause, Ah Zha raised an eyebrow and said, "If you want to hit me, of course I'll fight back. Otherwise, would I just stand there and let you hit me? Now that you can't beat me up and are getting beaten, you're blaming me for hitting you too hard. That doesn't make sense! Do you think we brothers are easy to bully? No way!"
By the end, his expression had become incredibly sinister, and his eyes flashed with murderous intent as he glared fiercely at the two people in front of him.
In the past, Baldy and Four-Eyes would have been genuinely afraid that these thugs would flip the table and turn on them, but today was different.
That sum of money was too much, so much that it pained them. How could they just let it go like that?
"In the world of martial arts, everyone uses their own methods; there's nothing more to say!" Four-Eyes said with a stern face. "The hero and Baldy's men smashed up Brilliant, and your men smashed up Johnny's. We've taken the loss; you've got guts! Brilliant will still be yours from now on; we won't touch it again!"
"But Ah Bao has to return the money he took! There's no room for negotiation!" He glared at Ah Zha. "That casino has shares held by more than a dozen people, and half a month's worth of turnover is stored in the warehouse. Ah Zha, over forty million, you dared to take it? Aren't you afraid you won't live to spend it?"
"That's right!" the bald man roared angrily. "That freak under your command blew up the big shot, causing his complete downfall! That's bad enough, but how dare he run off with so much money? Ah Zha, don't you respect us? Don't you respect the big fish behind our Number Gang? Aren't you afraid of getting burned by that money? If you really push the bosses too far, and they put a bounty on your heads, will you still be able to stand on Hong Kong Island?"
"I advise you to think carefully!" Four-Eyes continued, "This money is too hot to handle; you can't swallow it! If you dare take it, our number gang will keep a close eye on you from now on! Those big bosses will never let you off the hook either, Ah Zha. When that happens, you won't survive!"
These words made the three Vietnamese brothers' expressions turn serious.
Ah Zha's expression was the most interesting, switching between black and white.
He counted the money Yu Li gave him last night; it was over 11 million.
But now the four-eyed guy and the bald guy say they lost forty million!
With such a large discrepancy, who is lying?
Did Baldy and his gang lie? Or did Ah Bao pocket the rest of the money?
Tony's eyes flickered. He knew the whole story, because he and Ah Zha counted the money Ah Zha brought back together.
"Did you really lose over forty million?" Tony asked.
"Including what the cops took, it's over forty million!" Four-Eyes said. "But the cops only have a few million. What did you mean by asking that? Don't tell me you haven't seen this money!"
"We really haven't seen him," Tony said. "We haven't been able to contact Ah Bao since what happened last night."
"Tch, you're not going to say he ran off with the money, are you?" The bald man sneered, completely disbelieving. "Does he have the guts? Does he have the ability? We have people all over Hong Kong Island by sea! He can't escape!"
"Ah Zha, enough with the nonsense!" Four-Eyes said. "I don't care if what you're saying is true or false, this was done by your Vietnamese gang. I don't care who has the money, I'm coming after you! Forty million, return every last penny! Also, Ah Bao, that guy, three cuts and six holes, I don't want to see him still alive!"
"These are our demands! I'm giving you three days. After three days, the money must be in place, and the person must die. If you fail to meet either of these conditions, we'll start fighting! I've already contacted the big bosses, and they're all furious. I don't need to elaborate on the consequences, do I?"
Honestly, Ah Zha oversimplified things.
He was too greedy last night. As soon as he heard there was so much money, he thought about swallowing it and then blaming Yu Li.
But to his surprise, the four-eyed man and the bald man didn't care whose fault it was; they only wanted money and an explanation from him.
Moreover, their attitude was very firm, and the consequences were severe.
In the original storyline, Ah Zha and his gang turned against Si Yan and his group when they had become powerful enough to handle the situation. By then, they had already swallowed Ah Shan's 80 million worth of goods and were recruiting heavily, so they were no longer afraid of the Number Gang.
But right now, their team has only just started, with a mere few hundred people. What makes them think they can challenge others?
Desperately?
Don't be ridiculous. Daring to risk their lives is indeed their trademark, and it's what makes the Number Gang wary of them.
But now they're making it clear to him that if he doesn't give an explanation, they'll fight him to the death!
Are we really going to fight to the death?
Once the relationship breaks down, no matter what the outcome, they definitely won't be able to stay in Hong Kong. How can they be willing to do that when they are just about to make great strides?
