Chapter 113 I Say the Professor's Insights are Brilliant
Actually, quite a few girls in Slytherin also liked Lockhart.
But to be honest, Lockhart is no different from those popular celebrities. At least Slytherin doesn't have that kind of obsessive love for Gilderoy that makes them want to die.
Of course, Lockhart didn't deserve such punishment; at least he didn't leak feces.
Compared to Lockhart, Louise was actually more popular with them.
With formidable strength, handsome appearance, and extraordinary background, if it weren't for his fear of Queen Slytherin's fiery temper, he would have confessed his love to Louis long ago, day and night.
Which girl doesn't dream of her Prince Charming?
The male students, needless to say, would not have liked Lockhart even without Louis's involvement.
As for why... well, how many men do you see who like groping? Is it just because of something else?
Ron thought to himself, "Cool!" He nudged Harry with his elbow, signaling him to look over at Slytherin.
Then that big idiot Harry threw his pen on the table and stopped answering the questions.
Lockhart, of course, didn't see Louis lead the way; he only saw that the Slytherin students hadn't answered the questions. He was fairly good-natured, simply smiling politely: "It seems not all of you have previewed my lesson. Well, well, it's alright if you don't answer."
After a while, the papers were collected. Lockhart frowned as he looked at the papers with the answers, and said with disdain, "Ugh, tsk, almost no one remembers that my favorite color is lilac—I mentioned it in 'A Year with the Eastern Snowman.' A few students need to read it a few more times."
Then he picked up another exam paper, stood up, and put on a cheerful expression: "But... Miss Hermione Granger knows that my ambition is to eliminate evil from the world and promote my exclusive line of hair care products."
At this point, he gave Hermione a greasy wink and praised, "Good girl, a hundred points."
Hermione, however, listened intently, her face beaming like a fangirl, her eyes sparkling with pink stars. Lockhart suddenly mentioned her name, startling her.
"Then, ten points for Gryffindor." Lockhart said rather hastily, bending down to pull out a large cage covered with a cloth from behind the podium and placing it on the table.
"Now—be careful, my task is to teach you whispers of the most evil things the magical world knows! The most terrifying things you will face in this classroom… But remember, as long as I'm here, you will be harmed. I just need you to stay calm!"
The students all held their breath. With Professor Lewis's (front) creation of the living corpse as a precedent, how could they dare to underestimate Lockhart's boast?
Louis, however, knew what was in the cage. He dismissed Lockhart's words and turned to Draco, muttering, "Nonsense, utter nonsense."
Draco couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Lockhart was too focused on the cage in front of him to hear what Louis was saying, but Draco's laughter caught his attention. He frowned and asked somewhat irritably, "Mr. Mountbatten, what are you talking about?"
Louis smiled gracefully and replied slowly, "I say the professor's opinion is excellent."
Lockhart could only cough twice to cover up his embarrassment and displeasure. He put one hand on the cover and looked at his classmates mysteriously.
"I need to ask you not to scream," Lockhart said in a low voice. "That will enrage them."
The whole class held their breath as Lockhart lifted the cover, revealing the Cornish elves huddled together in the cage.
"Not bad, a Cornish elf I just caught!" he said proudly, but in reality, he had bought the elf from someone with his own money.
The whole classroom burst into laughter, instantly filling the air with a joyful atmosphere.
Even Lockhart couldn't possibly mistake that for a terrified scream.
"What?" Lockhart wasn't angry. He looked at his classmates calmly. "They're not very dangerous, are they?"
Everyone was laughing so hard they could hardly breathe, and even the explosives genius Seamus almost passed out.
"Don't be so sure!" Lockhart shook his finger at him angrily. "They could also be devilishly cunning little vandals!"
The blue-skinned elves in the cage chattered and squeaked, frantically grabbing and shaking the cage bars, and making faces at the students.
"Alright, let's see how you deal with them!" Lockhart said, opening the cage door.
Now things were really going to get interesting. The cage full of Cornish elves had escaped their cages and were flying around like wild dogs, causing chaos in the classroom. Louise beckoned them away from Slytherin and directed them to focus their antics on the Gryffindors instead.
The Slytherin snakes watched as the elves grabbed the lion cubs' ink bottles and haphazardly splashed ink, tearing their books to shreds. Some flew to Lockhart's paintings, throwing the beautiful photographs out of the room, and several even flew onto the podium, unleashing their "Return My Beauty Punch" on Lockhart.
The Gryffindor students were bullied so badly they could only hide under their desks. Louis, looking at Draco beside him, laughed so hard that you could see his stomach.
At that moment, Lockhart rolled up his sleeves, brandished his wand, and roared, "Peschich Pixie, Pestnomi!"
The spell had no effect. A little elf snatched Lockhart's wand and threw it out the window. Immediately afterward, the chandelier on the ceiling crashed down and hit him squarely on the forehead.
His once splendid clothes had been ruined by the elves, and the chandelier had broken on his forehead, causing him to bleed profusely, with the blood even seeping onto his clothes.
He turned and ran out of the classroom, shouting as he ran, "This is today's homework! You have to catch these little elves and bring them back!"
As soon as he stepped out of the classroom, he slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
Louis then made his move. He snapped his fingers, and all the mischievous sprites fell to the ground like mosquitoes that had been poisoned.
The Gryffindor students breathed a sigh of relief, only to realize that the professor was gone.
Draco seized the opportunity to stand up and said loudly, "Slytherin students, and Gryffindor students, you all saw what just happened."
"I know the two houses don't get along, and to be honest, I don't really like Gryffindor either—"
"But Louis often told me that the primary question is who our friends are and who our enemies are—we're not enemies, on the contrary, we're competitors, and it's perfectly normal for us to dislike each other. Okay, some people might misunderstand me. You might say, 'Malfoy! Isn't your family the most contemptible of Muggles and half-breeds?'"
"But I must say, times have changed. The Malfoy family has long since abandoned the narrow-minded ideas that were detrimental to the development of the wizarding world. The Malfoy family is now willing to work hand in hand with everyone to create a better tomorrow for the wizarding world..."
"But that's not what I want to talk about today. What I want to say is that we now have a common enemy, and that's that fraudster, Gilderoy Lockhart!"
Lavender, standing next to Hermione, panicked and blurted out, "Professor Lockhart is no fraud!"
Look, this tone sounds exactly like "My brother isn't XXX".
"Whether he's a fraud or not, I don't want to argue with you. Go back and think about it yourself. A guy who can't even handle a Cornish elf, even if he's not a fraud, is still a good-for-nothing!" Draco's arguments were exceptionally clear and convincing, leaving Lavender speechless and even Hermione lost in thought.
"I have to say, I support Draco this time; at least he convinced me," Ron said to Harry.
"Weasley, this is the first time I've ever found you so agreeable," Draco immediately chimed in, then continued to the class, "Think about it, how did Lewis teach us last year when Professor Quirrell wasn't around? What was Defense Against the Dark Arts class like?"
"Think about it, what have we all learned from Louis's class? Don't tell me you haven't learned anything—I just saw Mr. Finigan use the Shattering Charm to repel a sprite."
Louis called out Seamus Finnigan's name, and Seamus scratched his head and chuckled, saying, "It's all thanks to Professor Louis's excellent teaching."
"So, I'm just asking everyone here. If you really want to learn some real skills, then join me in petitioning—you know, my father is a school board member, and Hogwarts will consider what he says." Draco finished speaking and then added, "I'll start a petition. If you want Lewis to continue teaching us Defense Against the Dark Arts, please sign your names."
For the first time ever, Draco's act of showing off his father didn't offend anyone; even Ron seemed to approve.
"Of course, this isn't mandatory; it's entirely voluntary and will be done in secret," Draco added, then looked at Harry, thought for a moment, and said to Ron, "Weasley, you're in charge of Gryffindor. After all—well, Lewis is your good friend."
Draco is smart now. Knowing that his approach is ineffective, he immediately brings up Louis to appeal to emotions.
"No problem!" Ron said, patting his chest.
"And what about Louis? Is Louis willing to continue teaching us?" Seamus asked eagerly.
Before Louis could answer the question, the Gryffindor lions and Slytherin snakes, who had heard Seamus's question, started clamoring, wanting to know whether Louis was willing to continue teaching.
Louis had no choice but to stand up, and the students fell silent the moment they saw him stand up.
He sighed, put his hands in his pockets, and adopted a reluctant yet compassionate expression. He said heavily, "I have always considered it my duty to benefit the students, and I have never cared about empty titles like 'professor.' But if everyone now wants me to take the stage and believes that only by continuing to teach in this way can I truly benefit the students, then I can only reluctantly shoulder this responsibility and completely abandon my selfish desire to slack off..."
For true fans, this statement can be summed up in just one word: "survival."
Louis was now more than satisfied with Draco; he was absolutely satisfied.
Lucius and his wife have been disciplining the boy quite a bit at home lately, he thought to himself.
You did a great job!
Once Lucius's factory is up and running, the awarding of the medal can proceed.
Upon receiving Louis's almost certain answer, the classroom erupted in thunderous cheers.
"Long live! Long live Louis! Long live Professor Mountbatten!" the students shouted enthusiastically, but it made Louis feel a pang in his heart.
Damn it, stop shouting like that! You're overstepping your bounds! My aunt is still going to live for another thirty years...
"Alright, alright, this matter isn't settled yet. We can celebrate when it is," Louis said modestly.
Soon, the bell rang, and the students finished writing their petitions almost immediately.
Even Lavender Brown forgot about Lockhart—come on, is Lockhart as handsome as Louis? Seriously…
That evening, Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw, having heard that Gryffindor and Slytherin were preparing to petition, each selected a representative to speak with Draco.
The meeting went very well, and that same day, the two colleges filled the other side of their petition for Louis to return to teaching with their own names.
Draco then ran to the owl hut and delivered the petition to his home.
Meanwhile, Louis was sitting in the principal's office.
This matter could not be bypassed by Dumbledore, so Louise needed to inform him beforehand.
Even if Dumbledore had the best temper and was the most tolerant of him, this was still something that had to be done.
After hearing Lewis's account, Professor Dumbledore suddenly laughed. He then pulled out a cockroach candy, popped it into his mouth, and asked while chewing, "Oh, I know about that. So... what do you think of the request from these four second-year students?"
Louis waved his hand and said modestly, "I told them at the time that they should find someone else. I'm not being modest, how could a student like me be your professor? But they said that only I can motivate them to learn. If Lockhart continues to teach them, it would be bad if they didn't know anything when facing dark wizards in the future."
"So, at that time I said something like this: as long as it can benefit my classmates, and if everyone needs me to stand up, I will definitely take on this responsibility."
Dumbledore shrugged, somewhat helplessly, and said, "That's true, but the appointment and dismissal of personnel in the school doesn't entirely depend on me. It also depends on the opinion of the Board of Governors... After all, Professor Lockhart wasn't entirely appointed by me; there were also recommendations from the Board of Governors and the Ministry of Magic."
Lewis noticed a small detail in Dumbledore's way of addressing people. Generally, he addressed professors by their first names; it was almost unheard of for him to address them by their last name followed by "professor"...
So he was somewhat certain in his heart that Dumbledore probably didn't like this person very much either.
"You won't need to worry about the board of directors; Draco has already written to his father to handle it," Louis said immediately.
Dumbledore stroked his beard and said meaningfully, "It seems you've had quite a summer, Louis."
