Chapter 168 Borrowing Two British Treasures
Chapter 168 Borrowing Two British Treasures
Waterloo is a place name that even people who are not British or French would know.
After all, this place name has become synonymous with failure, a globally famous meme.
Moreover, as citizens of both Britain and France, it was impossible for them not to know about this battlefield that determined the fate of their two countries.
Back in history class, Louis was always a staunch supporter of France, after all, Napoleon's personal charisma was quite appealing.
On the other hand, it is also due to human nature that people will subconsciously sympathize with losers who have good personal charisma. This is why figures like Xiang Yu, Liu Bei, and Napoleon have always been the object of much sympathy.
Of course, those who try to whitewash figures like Zhao Kuo, Yang Guang, and Li Jiancheng, or even the Ten Sages of the Temple of Heaven, out of sympathy, are just idiots.
Sympathy is not wrong, but to whitewash someone's character because of sympathy is going too far.
Generally speaking, fools are lucky, but these idiots aren't.
But now Lewis has become a loyal fan of Wellington. As the old saying goes, I'm talking about stance, not facts, and that's exactly how Lewis feels now.
"I don't understand what you mean. How will the Eternal Dragons intervene in the Battle of Waterloo?" Louis asked curiously.
Chromie answered without hesitation: "Generally speaking, the methods of the Eternal Dragons are simple and brutal. I think you should know about the purification of Stratholme. The Eternal Dragons' method was to directly assassinate Arthas Menethil... I think if nothing unexpected happens, they might assassinate Arthur Wellesley instead."
Arthur Wellesley was the Duke of Wellington's birth name.
After a moment's thought, Louis asked a crucial question: "What if they change their tactics?"
"Ah, this..." Chromie paused for a moment, then chuckled dryly, "I really haven't considered that..."
"Then you probably haven't considered this issue," Louis said sharply to Chromie, "If they change their tactics, and you still use the old methods to counter them, you might be caught off guard."
"But Nozdormu didn't tell anyone about this!" Chromie said, looking aggrieved.
"Okay, besides Waterloo, which other timeline is problematic?" Louis decided to change the subject; he really didn't know how to talk to this inflexible bronze dragon in front of him.
He had always thought of the Bronze Dragons, who controlled the timeline, as incredibly reliable beings. In the game, the Bronze Dragons seemed to have never had any major problems except during the War of the Shifting Sands, making them much more reliable than the Blue Dragons, who were weaklings and lunatics.
Yes, and there's also that group of salty fish from the Green Dragon clan who do nothing but slack off and sleep all day...
Now it seems that old impressions may not be reliable, and the bronze dragon in front of me has really overturned my impressions.
"I don't know either. So far, only the Battle of Waterloo has been detected." Chromie shrugged, as if to say, "It's not my fault."
Well, the blame isn't really on him. He understands the principle that you can't guard against thieves forever.
Louis nodded. "So when do we set off?"
"Look at you, anytime is fine." Chromie stretched. "Due to the interference of the Eternal Dragon, the timeline flows in parallel with the main world's timeline. Let me see, ah, Wellesley is already in Brussels."
Louis knew the significance of the place name, and he quickly asked, "What time is it now? June 15th?"
Upon hearing this, Chromie raised his slender, carrot-like arm, pretending to check his watch, and after a long pause, slowly replied, "Yes, it is. It is noon on June 15, 1815... 12:03."
"However, given that you've been on a plane all day, it would be better to rest for the night," Chromie suggested. Trying to do serious business while exhausted is really prone to problems.
Louis slapped her on the head, nearly sending her sprawling forward. Seeing Chromie's displeasure, he suggested, "Whether we rest or not is a minor matter. I think we should go ahead, lest the Eternal Dragon, lacking any sense of honor, tries to deceive and seduce the Duke of Wellington."
"Okay, if you insist." Chromie nodded and raised her little hand to throw sand.
"Wait a minute!" Louis grabbed her little carrot arm. "Wait a minute! Have you even thought about what our role should be infiltrating the Duke of Wellington's inner circle?"
"Ah...this..." Chromie was embarrassed again.
Louis really wanted to reach out and strangle her to death.
This is infuriating...
"Fine, forget it." Louis waved his hand weakly. "Do you have a teleportation portal? Send me to Westminster..."
Perhaps sensing Louis's unfriendly gaze, Chromie quickly replied, "I know that. I even memorized quite a few teleportation beacons! Some are from your family, some from major cities around the world, some from Hogwarts, some from Beauxbatons, and many other magic schools..."
"Hey, you remember this so clearly, are you planning to launch a counterattack on Earth?" Louis pinched Chromie's cheek.
"No, really no..." Chromie quickly broke free, rubbing her cheeks which were red from being pinched. "Louis, you know me. If I wanted to invade Earth, I definitely wouldn't cooperate with you..."
"That's true, but I see you really have some amazing skills." Louis patted her head. "Is there one at Buckingham Palace?"
"Yes," Chromie said, conjuring up a portal.
Louis turned to Catherine and the other two: "Wait here for me a moment, I'm going to get some tokens."
"Okay, be careful," Ye Ziyan reminded her.
Louis nodded, grabbed Chromie, and went through the portal.
Inside the restaurant, Uncle and Aunt's family were having dinner. There were no outsiders, just their own family who kept their mouths shut. Louis's sudden appearance only startled Cousin Annie; the others seemed unfazed.
"Your entrance is getting more and more unusual, Louis." His uncle, still engrossed in his meal, said slowly, "Hopefully, your next entrance won't scare us two old folks..."
"Haha... Look at what you're saying." Louis Gan laughed and scratched his head.
Auntie put down her knife and fork, wiped her mouth vigorously with a napkin, and said, "Tell me, you little rascal, you came in such a hurry, there must be something urgent."
"Auntie is really something." Louis gave his uncle a smug, demonstrative smile, only to find that the uncle didn't even look up.
To be honest, the Yorkshire pudding on the plate is much more appealing than Louis's little side dish.
As soon as the aunt finished speaking, the servants in the restaurant filed out, and the last one to leave thoughtfully closed the door to prevent any sound from leaking out.
To be honest, they've all been trained to be quite sensible.
Louis waited until they had all left before picking up Chromie.
"Well, it's a long story. There are some criminals moving around in the timeline, and one group has already reached June 15, 1815..."
As soon as Louis mentioned the date, his aunt frowned and interrupted, "You mean...Waterloo?"
Well, the Battle of Waterloo is indeed etched into the DNA of every British man.
After all, this was the result of the last victory against France...
“Yes.” Louis gave a thumbs up: “So I plan to go back to 1815 to protect the Duke of Wellington from being harmed by outlaws, which would cause Britain to lose the Battle of Waterloo.”
As he spoke, Louis patted Chromie on the back of the head, and the latter reluctantly kicked up a cloud of yellow sand, demonstrating his ability to travel through time to everyone.
The yellow sand stirred up a miniature whirlwind in the air, eventually turning into ripples, and behind the ripples appeared London in 1914.
The sharp-eyed aunt spotted her grandfather, George V with the big beard, sitting not far away.
George V, who was not yet fifty, looked full of vigor and was not nearly as old as she remembered.
In her field of vision, there was also her father, George VI, from her youth, and her uncle, Edward, who loved beauty more than the throne, but they were both still and motionless.
Cousin Charlie didn't believe in superstitions. He even went inside, looked around, and waved his hand in front of his great-grandfather. When there was no reaction, he took a pie and a juice can.
Back in the real world, the cousin looked at the item in his hand and realized it didn't look fake at all. He put down the juice bottle, picked up a piece of pie, and put it in his mouth.
"Hmm, it's banana flavored," my cousin mumbled. "It tastes pretty good, but the flavor is a bit retro."
This confirms Chromie's true abilities.
The aunt stared blankly at the elders in front of her, only coming to her senses after Chromie retracted the portal.
"Alright, my little cookie, tell me, what do you want?"
"Uh, I just wanted to get something to prove my identity, so that the Duke of Wellington wouldn't distrust me and become hostile towards me." Louis used the word "get," which sounded so vulgar, like a seagull on the beach wanting to "get" some fries at the dock.
Auntie nodded, understanding what Louis meant. She stood up, walked to the telephone, picked up the receiver, said something, and then gestured for Louis to come with her.
Louis patted Chromie on the back of the head again, signaling her to come over.
The two animals, one big and one small, followed their aunt step by step into a not-so-spacious room.
On the table, several objects lay quietly.
"This is the Crown of St. Edward," Auntie said, pointing to one of the most magnificent crowns, studded with various gems and diamonds, and then to another golden metal sphere similarly covered in gems and a scepter with a giant teardrop-shaped diamond at its tip. "This is the Orb of Kings, and the King's Scepter. Do you think these three can prove that you have the Duke of Wellington's trust?"
Louis admitted he was a little petrified. Although he had a little money in his life, he admitted that he was a tiny bit tempted by his aunt's three national treasures.
Sure enough, it's a lie to say you don't like treasures... No one can resist the allure of luxurious jewelry, right? Not just women, men can't resist either.
Louis nodded vigorously, but then suddenly heard Cromy ask from the side, "These three things... are enough to gain the Duke of Wellington's trust?"
Auntie and Louise looked at Cromi with some surprise. "You call this thing a 'thing'?"
Is it that I, Louis, am too weak to lift a knife, or is it that Chromie, you've gotten too cocky?
Unexpectedly, Chromie reached out and scattered a handful of yellow sand, then dipped his hand into the ripples created by the sand, his expression like Doraemon rummaging through his four-dimensional pocket.
"Found them!" she said excitedly, pulling out three identical items. "Here, these are the three... I took them out from another timeline..."
As a result, the three national treasures in front of my aunt disappeared in an instant.
Looking at the three national treasures in Chromie's hands, and then at the empty space in front of her, Auntie suddenly sat down on the stool, covered her chest with her hand, and took a deep breath.
This is quite a shock for an elderly person.
"Uh, sorry, I forgot about the uniqueness of the timeline." Chromie stuck out her tongue playfully and stuffed the three things back in.
Sure enough, the moment she put them back, the three things were back in front of her aunt.
"Don't do that again next time. My aunt is old and can't handle such a shock..." Louis complained, gently patting his aunt's back to help her catch her breath.
"It's nothing...it's nothing..." Auntie didn't seem to care much. Instead, she looked at Chromie and said, "Your ability is quite good. It seems that many lost treasures can be retrieved in this way...When you're done with the Battle of Waterloo, remember to take this little...I don't even know this young lady's name yet."
"Her name is Chromie, and she's a bronze dragon." Louis patted Chromie's head, which drew a glare from her. "Don't let her small size fool you; she's actually lived for tens of thousands of years."
"Really?" Auntie's interest was piqued immediately, and she didn't forget to remind Louis, "These three things are for you to borrow for now, but of course... you have to return them to me. After all, you don't want your cousin Charlie to lose face when he ascends the throne, do you?"
"Don't worry, Auntie, I know." Louis carefully used his spatial storage to collect the three treasures, which made his aunt's eyelids twitch again.
The elderly couldn't bear to see this; it was just too much for their blood pressure. The aunt rubbed her temples with her middle and ring fingers and began to see the guests off: "Alright, the situation is urgent, so I won't keep you two any longer. You can go now."
"Alright, give my regards to my uncle, cousins, and other relatives~" Louis said, then grabbed Chromie and darted away.
……
In Nuuk's hotel suite, the two suddenly appeared in front of the three women who were waiting anxiously.
"How is it? Have you found a solution?" Catherine asked with concern.
Louis pulled the St. Edward's Crown from his spatial storage in a flash. The midnight sun shone directly through the window onto the dazzling gem at the very top of the crown, causing it to gleam brilliantly.
It almost blinded the three people and two dragons.
Almost instantly, Catherine and Ye Ziyan's eyes turned into sparkling diamond shapes.
"To be honest, even in Azeroth, the size of the diamonds on this crown is quite unusual," Chromie remarked with a click of her tongue. Her next comment drew the attention of Catherine and Ye Ziyan.
"Once this timeline disruption is complete, I can find some smaller items from my personal collection that are much bigger than this thing to give you."
Catherine and Ye Ziyan exchanged a glance, their eyes burning with a fierce fighting spirit.
Louis shuddered. He could see that even God himself couldn't stop these two women's thirst for diamonds...
