Chapter 180 Black the Scapegoat
Chapter 180 Black the Scapegoat
Louis understood and empathized with Harry's longing for the Firebolt. In his past life, he often opened car-selling apps whenever he had free time, even if he couldn't afford one, he could at least satisfy his craving, right?
If it weren't for Louise and Hermione, and Harry were living here alone, he would probably be spending his days just watching the firebolts.
Of course, Harry's situation is far better than Louis's in his previous life. At least Harry can actually afford Firebolt at this stage, he just can't bear to part with the money.
Don't underestimate Harry. The Potter family has accumulated a fortune of at least several hundred thousand dollars over the years from selling shampoo.
The following days were uneventful; they were either shopping or on their way to shop every day. Catherine and Hermione had a strong desire to buy things, and every day they would take Christa to Diagon Alley on a shopping spree, laden with bags and packages.
There was no shortage of homework to do; Louise handed all her homework to Christa, leaving the dragon maid furious but unable to say a word.
It was quite hot today, with temperatures reaching 28 degrees Celsius. To cool off, the group decided to sit outside Florin Ice Cream Shop and enjoy some ice cream.
Louis really liked their chocolate ball ice cream, but unfortunately, the chocolate ball wasn't sold separately; it was only included with the purchase of the three-color ice cream, which made him a little depressed.
Catherine, who doted on him, forked away the vanilla and original flavors he didn't like, and then placed her and Christa's chocolate balls in front of Louis, which brought a smile back to his face.
"What are we having for dinner?" Harry asked as he scooped out ice cream with a spoon, fully embodying his principle of self-reflection.
Just then, someone called his name loudly. He turned around and saw Ron.
"We finally found you guys. We asked Tom and he said you went out to play." Ron plopped down next to Hermione and casually put his arm around her shoulder. Who would have thought that after going to Egypt, this kid would actually have a change of heart?
Hermione's cheeks flushed red, but she didn't stop Ron's actions.
He was carrying a large pile of books, which Christa took and stuffed into her spatial backpack.
"You're only buying books now? We bought everything the school needs last week," Harry said, his tone laced with smugness. "School starts tomorrow, and you're back pretty late..."
"That's why we're spending the night at the Leaky Cauldron. You can come with us to King's Cross Station tomorrow," Ron said, nudging Hermione's shoulder with his head.
He then casually pulled a long, thin box from his backpack and opened it: "Look, a brand new wand, fourteen inches long, wicker, with a unicorn tail hair on it—oh, thanks to Louis, thanks to your credits..." he said, looking at Louis.
Louis didn't say anything, but gave Ron a thumbs-up with the hand that was around Catherine's neck.
Looking at the two couples in front of him, Harry suddenly felt a little superfluous.
I'm full, I'm full from eating dog food...
"My birthday is coming up soon, and my parents gave me ten Galleons so I can choose something to celebrate my birthday in advance," Hermione said, checking her wallet.
At this point, Ron patted her other shoulder and pulled out a beautifully packaged set of books from his backpack.
It is a complete set of ancient magic script learning kits.
Hermione looked at the gift her boyfriend had carefully chosen, then pounced on him and kissed him on the cheek.
"Oh, Ronnie!" Hermione was overjoyed.
"I was planning to give you your birthday present on your birthday, but since you brought it up, I can't wait any longer," Ron said with a silly grin.
Harry felt a little nauseous.
"I think I should go buy an owl." Hermione released Ron, thought for a moment, and said, "I mean, Louis has his Emerald, Harry has his Hedwig, and you have Errol—"
"I don't have any," Ron quickly said. "Erol belongs to our family. All I have are Scabbers."
At this point, he pulled his pet mouse out of his pocket: "I want to take it to get checked out; I feel like it's not adjusting well to the environment in Egypt."
Banban looks thinner than before, and even his beard is noticeably drooping.
"There's a magical creature shop over there," Catherine pointed. "You can see if you should buy something for your mouse. Hermione can also buy owls there."
"Yes!" Ron quickly stood up and urged everyone to walk that way.
The shop was rather cramped, with every inch of the walls seemingly covered by cages. It was smelly and noisy. Catherine frowned and pulled Christa out, intending to wait for them outside.
Kristassa didn't like the smell either; as a dragon, her sense of smell was extremely sensitive.
There was a large cage on the counter, filled with slick black mice that were playing a jumping game with their long, bald tails.
Ron approached the counter, took out Spotty, and handed it over: "This is my dog. Ever since I brought it to Egypt and back, it's been acting a bit off. I suspect it might be suffering from acclimatization issues?"
"Put it on the counter," the witch said, pulling a heavy pair of black glasses from her pocket. The mice in the cage, seeing the spotted mouse on the counter, stopped their hopping and instead crowded together in the cage, staring intently at it and chattering.
Banban looked battered and bruised, and compared to the slick, shiny mice in the cage, it looked extremely distressed.
"How big is this mouse?" the witch asked, picking up the spotted mouse.
"I don't know," Ron replied. "It used to be my brother's pet."
"What are its abilities?" the witch asked as she examined the spots.
"He can sleep a lot," Ron replied without hesitation.
The witch's eyes moved from its tattered ears to its front paws, where a toe was missing. She clicked her tongue and remarked, "It looks like it's suffered quite a bit… You can't expect an ordinary mouse like this to live more than three years."
"I still suggest you find a more resilient creature as soon as possible. Of course, if you don't want that, you can try this potion," the witch said, reaching under the counter to take out a small red bottle.
"What kind of potion is this? How much does it cost?" Ron's eyes were wide open. He thought Banban was beyond saving, but suddenly this good thing appeared. It looked very powerful. The liquid in the small red bottle was even slightly glowing.
"Rat supplement, seven silver scissors a bottle," the witch replied, and the two exchanged money for goods quickly and decisively.
Ron now has hundreds of credits, so he doesn't have to worry about money at all. Money is not a big problem for him, and it can even help support his family.
Ron got his supplement and looked back to see that Louis and the others had all left.
While he was searching again, he saw three people walking towards him.
Hermione excitedly carried a cage containing a beautiful, brownish-yellow owl.
"I'm thinking of calling it Casey. What do you think?" Hermione asked with a grin, carrying the cage.
"Oh, no, don't," Louis quickly stopped her. "I advise you to change your name..."
"Why?" Hermione asked, puzzled.
Louis pointed to Catherine, who was whispering to Christa, and said, "I often call her Catherine, but if you don't want to be hung upside down like a bell, I suggest you change your name..."
"Let's call her Amy," Hermione said, immediately giving the owl a new name.
We have to change it; Catherine is the biggest bully.
When they returned to the Leaky Cauldron, they found Mr. Weasley sitting in a corner of the bar, reading the Daily Prophet.
"Louis! Catherine! Harry! Hermione! How are you?" He looked up and smiled at them.
"That's great, thank you," the four replied in unison.
Harry sat down, and Mr. Weasley put down his newspaper. Harry saw Sirius Black's familiar picture staring at him.
"Haven't they caught him yet?" Harry asked.
"No," Mr. Weasley replied, looking extremely serious. "Back at the ministry, they told us to drop everything and try to find him, but as you can see, we don't have that luck yet."
Harry immediately became interested: "If we catch him, will we get a reward? Getting some money would be even better—"
"Don't talk nonsense, Harry," said Mr. Weasley, who looked quite nervous. "Black won't be caught by a thirteen-year-old boy. It will be the guards of Azkaban who will take him back. Remember me."
Just then, Mrs. Weasley came over, carrying many things she had bought, followed by her children, the twins, Ginny, and Percy, who had just been elected student council president and was full of pride.
Ginny has always liked Harry, especially after seeing Ron and Hermione being all lovey-dovey. The way she looks at Harry is different now; a fierce flame burns within her eyes.
"Hello." Percy solemnly extended his hand, looking very serious.
"Hello, Percy." Harry suppressed a laugh and shook Percy's hand.
Louis, who was standing nearby, quickly buried his face in Catherine's chest and chuckled, but made no sound; only he and Catherine could hear him.
"Oh, Louis, what are you doing!" Mrs. Weasley rushed over and pulled Louis's head from Catherine's arms. "We're still outside! How can you two do this? It's such a bad example!"
Louise said nothing, but pointed to Ron, who was feeding Hermione cake with a bite of each other's bread.
Mrs. Weasley, hands on her hips, said unhappily, "They're just feeding each other, and you two... you're really infuriating!"
"I'm sorry, Aunt Molly." Louis's attitude in admitting his mistake was very good, as was Catherine's, indicating that she had been too lenient with Louis.
Mrs. Weasley wasn't really angry, nor was she meddling. She genuinely considered Louis and Catherine as her own children, which is why she stopped their indecent public displays of affection.
While Mrs. Weasley was greeting everyone, Mr. Weasley called out to Harry.
"Can I talk to you about something?"
Harry stood up, still a little confused, and followed Mr. Weasley to the side.
"Are you looking forward to the new school term?" Mr. Weasley said, trying to ease the tension.
"It's alright." Harry didn't know what Mr. Weasley wanted to say to him, but he was a little nervous—perhaps it was because of his previous arrogant remark that had angered him?
"Harry, some people in the Ministry of Magic might object to me revealing this to you, but I think you should know the truth." Mr. Weasley glanced around to make sure no one was watching, then continued, "You are in danger now… great danger!"
This question stumped Harry. He looked up, frowned, and asked, "Danger? What danger could I be in?"
As he spoke, he noticed the wanted poster for Sirius Black on the bar wall and a thought struck him: "This has something to do with Sirius Black, doesn't it, sir?"
Mr. Weasley looked back and forth, then asked Harry, "How much do you know about Sirius Black?"
"All I know is that he escaped from Azkaban," Harry said, spouting nonsense.
"Do you know why?" Mr. Weasley stared intently at him.
Harry shook his head to indicate that he didn't know.
Mr. Weasley answered slowly, "Thirteen years ago, when you stopped—" He paused abruptly.
"When Voldemort was around?" Harry asked.
“Don’t mention his name.” Mr. Weasley shuddered. “When you stopped…” he gestured with his hands. “Black lost everything when it came to Mystic, but he’s still a loyal servant, so in his eyes you’re the only one standing in the way, the obstacle preventing Mystic from making a comeback.”
"That's why he escaped from Azkaban and came to find you."
"Then kill me," Harry said calmly, as if he were talking about something unrelated to him.
It's not a big deal that he can remain so calm. After all, no one can be hunted down by the world's biggest villain from the age of one. Compared to that, being hunted down by the henchmen of the villain he killed is not a big deal either.
Oh right, it wasn't that he killed the big bad guy, it was that he killed the big bad guy twice.
Young people have a great mindset.
Mr. Weasley took a deep breath and earnestly instructed, "Harry, I need you to promise me that no matter what you hear, you will not go looking for Black..."
"Mr. Weasley..." Harry asked, somewhat puzzled, "Why would I choose someone who wants to kill me?"
Mr. Weasley didn't say anything, he just patted Harry on the shoulder.
"Just remember what I said. Alright, let's go back now, Harry. Molly and the others must be getting impatient."
