Chapter 280 You're a girl too
Navy dress uniforms have strict requirements for single shoulder boards. Only officers of the rank of commodore and above are qualified to wear single shoulder boards. So even when Uncle Phil had just married into the family, he could only accompany his aunt on tours with bare shoulders as a lieutenant colonel until he was promoted to the rank of admiral and was then qualified to wear a single shoulder board.
So Louis was just qualified. A fourteen-year-old brigadier general might seem a bit outrageous, but considering he was a British officer, it wasn't too far off.
To be fair, his grandfather wasn't entirely trying to trick him. He sent not only a formal suit but also a navy tailcoat for banquets and balls. Louis secretly breathed a sigh of relief, at least it wouldn't be too disastrous.
After reluctantly changing his clothes, Louis stretched the collar of his tuxedo and commented with a smile, "Compared to formal dress uniforms, I actually prefer this Royal Navy tailcoat with a small lapel. After all, it's the Navy. Even the dress uniforms are reasonable, allowing your neck to enjoy freedom and not be restricted, representing the free and fearless fighters on the sea."
"If you were wearing a marshal's uniform, it would suit you even better," Sakuya said, very considerately praising Louis.
Louis chuckled twice: "That's only a matter of time. Just wait and see."
What he said makes perfect sense. With his family connections, if nothing unexpected happens, like Harry's reckless behavior, becoming a marshal in a few decades wouldn't be difficult at all.
After looking in the mirror for a while, Louis twisted his neck and said somewhat uncomfortably, "But this shirt is just too tight, it doesn't have that comfortable feel... Look at the bow tie you chose, it's a bit too big."
"I think it's a sign of confidence." Sakuya smiled and straightened Louis's collar, loosening it as subtly as possible.
Louis rolled his eyes, looked in the mirror and said with a smile, "But then again, what I like most is that this simplified version of the dress is much simpler than it was a hundred years ago. Look, there's no flamboyant large-scale embroidery or gorgeous decorations. It's just that these little bits and pieces are really too fussy."
Louise was referring to the gold thread pendant that ran from the single epaulette to the front of the breastplate.
"I think it looks great, and it really complements your style," Sakuya said, buttoning the last button on Louis's vest. "Sometimes, complexity is a kind of beauty, don't you think?"
"You've hit the nail on the head. So-called etiquette is just complicated, only to show that you're different from ordinary people. In reality, most of it is useless rubbish," Louis commented. He had the right and the qualifications to make such a comment.
"You're right, but you can't say that to others." Sakuya smiled, "It's best to talk about it behind closed doors."
"I'm not Hagrid, it's not that serious." Louis waved his hand dismissively, subtly taking another jab at Hagrid.
Hagrid: Doesn't your conscience hurt?
"Alright, you can leave now. I think the young mistress and the others are getting impatient." Sakuya covered her mouth and chuckled. "I should add one more thing: you really have a refined air about you."
"Don't you know who I am?" Louis said helplessly. Sigh, he felt like he had always lived a tiring life, burdened with a level of handsomeness that he shouldn't have to bear at his age.
Sakuya covered her mouth and chuckled softly, without replying.
Louis craned his neck to look around, and after confirming that there was nothing seriously wrong, he left the room.
It should be said that Louis, at over 1.8 meters tall, could easily carry off the suit. Perhaps because he had spent so much time in other worlds, he looked much more mature than his peers. Catherine stared at this fawn, so different from usual, and was momentarily captivated.
"Your son is so handsome!" Emma mouthed, gave Louis a thumbs-up, and then quietly left the room, leaving the young couple some space.
"How is it?" Louis spread his hands as if to appear relaxed, but he was actually a little nervous inside.
"I really like it." Catherine's eyes were somewhat dazed.
Louis chuckled softly, then suddenly remembered a little incident from Christmas in first grade, and abruptly asked, "Is it the same as in the Mirror of Erised?"
"No, the uniforms in the Mirror of Eris are white..." Catherine answered subconsciously, then realized what she had said. She quickly covered her mouth and glared sharply at Louis.
After a moment, she waved her little fist fiercely at Louis: "Don't tell anyone!"
"Okay, okay, I won't tell anyone." Louis chuckled, walked over to his senior, and whispered in her ear, "Little Moon, can you not be so cute?"
Catherine didn't answer. She wrinkled her delicate nose, tapped his waist lightly with her little fist, and gave him a captivating, disdainful look.
"You're getting cuter and cuter." Louis couldn't help but lower his head and kiss her.
After a while, the two finally emerged from the office. There hadn't been dinner that evening, and the school hadn't prepared the usual Christmas tea party, as there would be a banquet at the dance later. The students had already returned to their respective lounges, and around 5 PM, they began to emerge from their dormitories, dressed in their carefully chosen outfits, looking for their dance partners.
The students arrived at the foyer early, and Louis was walking over there as well. To be honest, his eagle wings were indeed a bit big. Neville's dance partner was no longer Ginny, but Parvati, an Indian girl from the same grade.
Parvati was actually very beautiful. Unlike the Dalit-like character in the movie, Parvati actually had very fair skin. Louis felt that she looked familiar, and upon closer inspection, he realized that she looked more and more like the Holi beauty who danced with Yoko back then.
She wore a striking pink dress, her jet-black hair was braided with gold ribbons, and the gold bracelet on her wrist glittered. Her beautiful eyes sparkled as she looked around.
"You're something else..." Seamus whispered to Neville, peeking out from behind his shoulder, "You actually managed to snag the prettiest girl in the whole grade. It's true what they say, a barking dog doesn't bite..."
"You're the dog." Neville certainly wouldn't let Seamo describe him that way.
The foyer was packed with students, all pacing back and forth, waiting for six o'clock, the official start time of the ball, when the auditorium would open. Some students, wanting to meet their dance partners from other colleges, squeezed through the crowd, searching for their counterparts.
Louis noticed his cousin Elizabeth, who was dressed as a man and had invited Luna to the ball...
Louis wasn't sure if it was just his imagination, but he felt like there was a rustling sound coming from the foyer.
"Cousin!" Elizabeth shouted excitedly when she saw Louis.
She dragged Luna through the crowd like a fish, looked her good older brother up and down, and made a lot of clicking sounds.
"Well done, you really are my aunt's favorite child, a commodore... tsk tsk."
"Envious, aren't you?" Louis lowered his voice and slapped the back of her head. "You brat, you're always up to no good, all you like is dressing up as a girl, huh?"
"Don't get the wrong idea, Luna and I are just friends," Eliza rolled her eyes at Louis. "Nobody invited us to the ball, so we had to resort to this. Hopefully, Professor McGonagall won't find out..."
That's what she said, but Elizabeth's eyes remained fixed on Louis, blinking and gazing at him intently.
"I understand your hint." Louis sighed, patting her head. "Don't worry, I'll talk to Professor McGonagall. You just focus on the party..."
"I knew my cousin was the most reliable! Long live my cousin!" Elizabeth cheered, raising her arms.
"Alright, I can't accept this title. You should find someone else to fool," Louis said helplessly, patting her on the shoulder.
At that moment, a gasp came from the crowd. Louis looked around, but because the crowd was so dense, he couldn't immediately figure out what was going on.
Elizabeth playfully punched Louis, laughing as she said, "Wow, cousin, you've really struck gold! Catherine is so beautiful..."
Finally, with a hint of sourness, he added, "If I were a boy, I would definitely pursue her..."
"Forget about it, she's already taken." Louis chuckled and walked through the crowd to Catherine's side.
Catherine wasn't the type to be stage-frightened, nor was she someone who cared about others. Because the crowd was quite large, she didn't go in to look for Louis, but instead stood there like a queen, waiting for Louis to come back to her.
When Louis returned to her side, she asked in a low voice, "What were you doing?"
"Oh, Elizabeth was dressed as a man at the party, and I caught her red-handed. She just begged me to go and plead with Professor McGonagall not to kick her out..." As Louis spoke, he noticed Elizabeth looking at him uneasily, so he reached out and beckoned to her.
"Then don't forget," Catherine whispered a reminder.
"Don't worry," Louis replied with a smile.
Harry then squeezed through the crowd, accompanied by Lylastrasa in a long red dress, and a distracted Ron at the back. Louise couldn't help but find Harry and Lylastrasa's height difference incredibly endearing.
"How's the preparation going?" Louis asked with a smile.
"Of course it's great!" Harry raised his head proudly. "I practiced with Lila in the Room of Requirement for ages, hehehe..."
"He's almost an adult, how come he still acts like a big idiot..." Louis looked at Harry, who was not managing his image well, with some helplessness, and didn't know how to complain for a moment.
He then looked at Ron and asked with some curiosity, "What's wrong? You and Hermione haven't made up yet? Where is she?"
"I don't know either. We agreed to meet here at this time." Ron stomped his foot on the ground. "I don't know what she's doing. Oh my god... I hope she's still angry and isn't coming to the ball..."
"Probably not, Ron," Louis said, noticing a beautiful woman he had never seen before standing gracefully not far behind Ron.
Then he realized, isn't that Hermione?
"Hermione?" Louis asked, still somewhat uncertain.
"It's me." Hermione greeted everyone with a bright smile and graceful manner. She walked over and casually linked her arm with Ron's. Seeing his still surprised and incredulous look, she couldn't help but ask with a playful laugh, "What's wrong? Don't you recognize me, Ron?"
It's no wonder Ron didn't recognize Hermione; the change was too drastic. Her hair was no longer messy as usual, but smooth and shiny, styled into an elegant updo at the back of her head. She wore a flowing light blue dress, and her demeanor was somewhat different today—if I had to describe it, it was that the hundreds of books she usually wore on her face had been removed.
"I just, uh—I, well, I didn't—" Ron was a little incoherent.
Seeing her boyfriend so nervous and surprised, Hermione was even happier. No one would be unhappy if their boyfriend acted like that when he saw them.
"What's wrong?" Hermione asked deliberately, feeling a sweet warmth in her heart.
What she really wanted was to hear something nice like, "You are so beautiful, I am completely captivated."
But Ron, being the straight man he is, obviously wouldn't follow Hermione's expected script. He scratched his head, chuckled, and said, unexpectedly yet logically, "I just didn't expect you to be a girl too..."
Hermione took a deep breath, then closed her eyes slightly and exhaled gently.
Forget it, don't be angry. This is the boyfriend I chose, so I can't be angry no matter what...
But I'm still so angry!
When Louis heard Ron's blunt remark, he exchanged a glance with Harry, couldn't help but burst out laughing.
Harry couldn't stop himself from laughing, and even let out a loud, earth-shattering laugh, drawing the attention of his classmates who were all curious about what had happened to make the warrior laugh so loudly.
In short, it's just a kind of "laugh" – not exactly ecstatic, but also not a wildly imaginative kind of "laugh."
The Slytherin students then came up the steps from their underground common room, with Draco Malfoy, the Viper, leading the way.
He wore a very ostentatious black velvet high-necked gown, accompanied by Pansy Parkinson in a light pink robe full of ruffles.
"Does Draco look like a parish priest?" Harry whispered to Louis.
Louis glanced at it and almost burst out laughing. Luckily, he was professionally trained and wouldn't laugh unless he couldn't help it.
"Louis." Draco saw Louis over there and walked over excitedly to greet him, "I didn't expect you to be here so early... Oh, Miss Voray, hello."
Catherine nodded, as if to greet Draco, while Louis patted Draco on the shoulder and said meaningfully, "Want to know what your Potts think of you?"
Pansy, who was standing next to her, suddenly brightened up.
