After Zhang Ying and Shen Yugang met, Shen Yugang took Zhang Ying on a tour of various scenic spots in Tiannan.

Shen Yugang is very familiar with the roads in Tiannan, after all, his parents have lived here for several years.

Although Zhang Ying didn't see any beautiful scenery during this trip due to his poor eyesight.

Those scenes that Shen Yugang described as "unbelievably beautiful" were, in his eyes, just patches of gray and black in varying shades.

But this relaxed and casual atmosphere still made Zhang Ying feel much more at ease.

Two days passed just like that.

On the morning of the third day, Zhang Ying was still lying in his hotel bed when his phone rang.

He picked up his phone and glanced at the caller ID: Deputy Director Xie.

Zhang Ying answered the phone. Xie Lichun's calm voice came from the other end.

"Mr. Zhang Ying, your employment approval has been granted. Please come to the bureau tomorrow to receive your credentials and learn about your work."

Zhang Ying sat up in bed: "Okay. What time tomorrow?"

"Ten o'clock in the morning. You know the address."

The phone hangs up.

He bought a plane ticket for that very night and sent a message to Shen Yugang saying he was leaving that night. Shen Yugang replied with "Okay".

Around 6 p.m., the plane took off from Tiannan Airport.

Two hours later, the plane landed at the airport in Pingjiang Province. The two dragged their luggage out of the terminal, transferred to a high-speed train, and then to a light rail.

The light rail carriage wasn't crowded. Zhang Ying and Shen Yugang sat side by side, with complete darkness outside the window. Occasionally, when they passed a station with lights, the carriage would briefly light up before going dark again.

It was already daylight when the two got out of the car.

The sky over Okura City was overcast, with low-hanging clouds that looked like it was about to rain. There was a damp smell in the air, completely different from the dry and hot climate in the south.

Shen Yugang stood at the subway station exit, stretched, and yawned.

"I'm so sleepy," he rubbed his eyes. "I need to go back and catch up on some sleep."

He then started walking into the subway station.

Zhang Ying reached out and stopped him.

"You can't go back now."

Shen Yugang paused for a moment, then turned to look at Zhang Ying.

"What's wrong?"

"I'm going to the branch office now. You'd better come with me to get your health checked out. If we delay any longer, who knows what might happen if something unexpected happens?"

Shen Yugang's expression changed from confusion to hesitation, and then from hesitation to compromise.

"Alright," he nodded, "I don't have anything else to do anyway, I'll go with you."

Zhang Ying took out his phone and called back Deputy Director Xie.

The phone rang twice before being answered.

"Deputy Director Xie. I'd like to bring a friend along. We both encountered something strange, and he's experiencing some health issues and needs some tests."

There was a two-second silence on the other end.

"Okay. I'll wait for you at the station. A car will pick you up."

Not long after, a black car pulled up at the subway station entrance.

The car was black with no markings, and the windows were tinted dark, obscuring the interior. It was exactly the same car Zhang Ying had ridden in last time.

The car door opened from the inside. A young man in a black jacket sat in the driver's seat, expressionless, neither turning around nor speaking.

Zhang Ying opened the back door and got in. Shen Yugang followed behind and also got into the back seat.

The car door closed.

The young man stepped on the gas, and the car smoothly entered the traffic.

Less than a minute after the car drove off, the person in the passenger seat turned around.

The man was wearing a black uniform and holding a roll of black cloth in his hand.

Cover your eyes.

Shen Yugang paused for a moment, looked at the rolled-up black cloth, and then at Zhang Ying.

"Cover it up," Zhang Ying said.

Shen Yugang swallowed hard and obediently let the man blindfold him with a black cloth.

Just like when Zhang Ying got on the bus.

Zhang Ying, however, did not need to. He was already a formal employee of the branch office, and his employment approval had been granted, so he no longer needed to cover his eyes.

The car continued driving. Shen Yugang sat in the back seat, his eyes blindfolded, his hands on his knees, his whole body tense, like a taut spring.

After a moment of silence, Shen Yugang's lips moved.

"Brother Ying," his voice was a little tense, "what kind of mysterious organization is this Supernatural Investigation Bureau...?"

Zhang Ying leaned back in his seat and smiled helplessly.

You'll know when you get there.

The car drove for about twenty minutes.

The car was parked in an underground parking garage.

The garage lights were a stark white, casting a cold, gleaming light on the concrete floor. Several identical black cars were parked inside, but nothing else.

The staff member in the passenger seat took out a pair of earplugs and personally helped Shen Yugang put them into his ears.

Zhang Ying was the first to get out of the car and walk in front, while Shen Yugang was helped by the staff in the passenger seat and walked behind. The three of them entered the elevator together.

The elevator doors closed, the staff pressed the button, and the elevator began to ascend.

The floor numbers are displayed on the screen.

5、8、12、17、21。

"We've arrived," the staff member said.

The elevator doors opened, revealing a brightly lit corridor.

A familiar ringtone of a platform customer service phone came from deep within the corridor.

"Hello, how can I help you?"

"Please wait a moment, we are transferring you."

The staff led Shen Yugang out of the elevator.

"Mr. Zhang Ying," the staff member said, turning around, "we will take this gentleman for a check-up. Please go upstairs on your own."

Zhang Ying nodded.

He stepped into the elevator and pressed the button for the 32nd floor. The elevator doors closed, and the elevator continued to ascend.

The elevator doors opened, and the corridor on the 32nd floor was much quieter than that on the 21st floor, with only the slight hum of the central air conditioning running.

Zhang Ying stepped out of the elevator, walked down the corridor, and arrived at Xie Lichun's office.

He knocked on the door.

"Come in," Xie Lichun's voice came from inside.

Zhang Ying pushed open the door and walked into the office.

Xie Lichun was sitting on the sofa, with a stack of documents and a black briefcase on the coffee table in front of him. He was wearing a dark gray jacket with the collar open, and he looked more casual than when they last met, but his calm demeanor remained unchanged.

"Sit down," Xie Lichun said, pointing to the sofa opposite him.

Zhang Ying sat down. The sofa was soft, and he sank into it.

Xie Lichun coughed lightly twice to clear his throat.

"Mr. Zhang Ying, I won't bother with formalities. Your identity has been verified by headquarters and the National Security Bureau, and you are now officially a member of the Anomaly Investigation Division of the Okura Branch of the Paranormal Investigation Bureau."

She picked up the black briefcase from the coffee table and handed it to Zhang Ying.

"This is your identification. Please do not show it to ordinary people. Once inside the police station, we hope you will wholeheartedly serve the people and contribute to the harmony and stability of Okura City."

Zhang Ying took the document bag and opened it.

The inside of the briefcase was made of black velvet. A work ID was tucked into the left pocket, and a metal badge was on the right. The work ID had a photo of him taken sometime during the day, against a white background; his expression was somewhat stiff and unnatural.

In the upper left corner of the photo, a national emblem gleams brightly in the sunlight. Below the emblem, a line of characters is embossed into the paper.

"Paranormal Investigation Bureau".

Next comes his name, number, and department.

Zhang Ying closed his briefcase and nodded.

"must."

This certificate represents not only identity, but also a responsibility.

Xie Lichun leaned back on the sofa, picked up the teacup on the coffee table, and took a sip of water.

"Okay, that explains your onboarding. We'll tell you about your job duties later. Now, let's talk about your friend."

She put the teacup back on the coffee table and looked at Zhang Ying.
