Xiao Ping helped Yao Bai stand on the stair landing, neither of them daring to move.

As Xiao Ping recalled what had just happened, he began to wonder if he had encountered a ghost wall.

As he hesitated about whether to continue downstairs, footsteps sounded from the emergency exit door downstairs.

Da da da.

The footsteps were extremely steady, neither fast nor slow, with the intervals between each step as if measured with a ruler, so neat that it didn't seem like the gait of a normal person.

Footsteps came from the depths of the corridor, approaching the stairwell as they drew nearer.

Xiao Ping held his breath, his ears perked up, listening intently to the sound. His heart was pounding so hard it felt like it was going to jump out of his throat, but he forced himself to calm down.

He prayed silently in his heart.

The person who comes must be one of their companions!

The footsteps grew closer.

The person making the footsteps came out of the emergency exit door.

It was Wu Sangui.

Xiao Ping breathed a sigh of relief, but then held it back halfway through.

Wu Sangui's current state is extremely abnormal.

His eyes stared blankly ahead. His face was unnaturally pale, his lips were purple, and he looked like a wax figure just taken out of an ice cellar—stiff, cold, and lifeless.

Standing on the stairs, Xiao Ping shouted down to Wu Sangui, "Wu Sangui! Where are Liu Dadan and the others? What have you been doing?"

Wu Sangui stood blankly at the top of the stairs, without replying.

His mouth opened and closed, making a muffled "woo-woo" sound.

Xiao Ping's heart jumped into his throat.

He stared intently at Wu Sangui downstairs.

Wu Sangui stood frozen in place, his expression blank. His hands hung limply at his sides, his fingertips slightly curled, as if he had lost all strength.

Xiao Ping took a step back, his heel hitting the edge of the step with a soft thud.

"You are Wu Sangui, right?"

Wu Sangui did not answer.

He took another step back. "Right?"

Wu Sangui still did not answer.

"Wu Sangui?"

"ah!!!!!!"

Wu Sangui let out an extremely shrill scream without warning.

His eyes were twice as big as before, and his pupils rolled upwards, revealing large areas of white in his eyes.

He stretched out his two hands, his ten fingers spread out and bent into the shape of claws, and suddenly grabbed at his own cheek!

Ten fingers slid down his cheeks, from his forehead to his cheekbones, and from his cheekbones to his chin, the nails carving ten deep furrows into his skin.

His skin was torn open, and blood gushed from the wound, flowing down his face and staining his clothes red.

Xiao Ping's legs began to weaken. He wanted to run, but his legs wouldn't obey him.

He wanted to shout, but he couldn't open his mouth.

He just stood there, watching Wu Sangui go mad.

Wu Sangui's screams didn't stop. He began to tear at his own body. He grabbed his clothes at his chest with both hands and ripped them off, skin and flesh together. One piece, two pieces, three pieces. With each tear, a piece of bloody body tissue was revealed, exposing the scarlet blood vessels and muscles beneath.

Xiao Ping was panting heavily, his body hair stood on end, and goosebumps spread from his arms to his back.

Yao Bai was completely stunned. She leaned against Xiao Ping, her body stiff as a stone, her eyes open and her mouth agape, but no sound came out of her mouth.

Overwhelmed by immense fear, she seemed to freeze into a stone statue, completely motionless.

In the struggle, Wu Sangui turned himself into a blood-soaked figure. His face was covered in blood, his body was covered in blood, and the ground was covered in blood.

His hand fell to his sides, and his body stopped trembling.

He stood there, his entire body devoid of intact skin, revealing the muscles and bones beneath.

A faint smile appeared on his bloodied face, the stiff corners of his mouth stretching all the way to the back of his ears.

Wu Sangui's eyes were fixed on Xiao Ping and Yao Bai.

His split lips curled up even more, revealing blood-stained teeth.

Wu Sangui took a step forward and charged upwards!

His body was like a machine out of control, his feet slamming into the steps with a dull "bang," and the splattered blood left mottled marks on the wall!

Seeing this, Xiao Ping's soul, which had just been frightened out of his body, was frightened back. He turned around abruptly, grabbed Yao Bai's wrist, and pulled her upstairs to escape.

Yao Bai also recovered from the shock, and squeezed out a cry that sounded like a sob. He took a step and followed Xiao Ping's steps uphill.

Xiao Ping and Yao Bai ran ahead, while Wu Sangui chased after them.

His gaze unconsciously swept downwards. On the steps beneath his feet, every few steps there was a bloody footprint.

Wu Sangui's footsteps grew closer. His pace didn't slow down; in fact, it quickened.

Xiao Ping could feel the stench of blood approaching from behind, growing stronger and heavier, like a wall pressing down on them.

Xiao Ping's breathing became more and more rapid, his lungs felt like a ball of burning cotton, each breath bringing a burning pain.

His legs began to weaken, his calf muscles twitched, and his thigh muscles felt like they were filled with lead.

Yao Bai was in even worse shape than him; her steps were unsteady, and she nearly tripped over her own feet several times.

In this endlessly looping stairwell, the three were caught in a seemingly endless chase.

He didn't know how long he had been running or how far he had gone. All he knew was that the thing behind him was still chasing him, and his legs were about to give way.

They had already used up some of their energy climbing the stairs. After the series of frights, they had almost no energy left.

Fear may have stimulated their adrenaline, giving them the strength to run, but this strength eventually comes to an end.

Muscle soreness, stinging breaths—in this seemingly endless corridor, a deep sense of powerlessness spread through Xiao Ping's heart.

They ran to a corner of a staircase.

Xiao Ping's body could no longer support him; his legs buckled, his knees hit the edge of the steps, and he collapsed to his knees.

Yao Bai released his hand and collapsed limply onto the steps beside him, leaning against the wall and panting heavily.

Both of their chests were heaving violently, their mouths agape, like two fish thrown ashore.

Sweat streamed down their foreheads, mingling with tears and snot, creating a smear on their faces.

Wu Sangui's footsteps grew closer and closer.

Tap! Tap! Tap!

Every step felt like stepping on Xiao Ping's heart.

Xiao Ping knelt on the ground, filled with nothing but despair.

then.

He heard a voice.

Click!

The sound was very soft and crisp, like someone crushing a piece of thin ice.

Click, click!

The sound became louder and the frequency increased.

Xiao Ping suddenly raised his head and looked ahead, the despair in his eyes turning into confusion in an instant.

To his disbelief, cracks spread across the space in front of him!

The cracks appeared out of thin air, like a piece of glass that had been struck hard, radiating outwards from the center and densely covering a large area in front.

boom!

The space in front of us shattered into thin pieces.

The fragments tumbled in the air, refracting chaotic light and shadow, before scattering like snowflakes.

After the debris dissipated, a figure appeared ahead!

A tall man wearing a black trench coat and sunglasses, holding a black iron rod, stepped into the shattered space in front of him.

"The Ghost Realm, the Blood-Soaked Lake."
