The room was deathly silent in the dead of night.

Zhang Ying sat on the edge of the bed, his gaze fixed on the view outside the window. An owl perched on the windowsill, its wide-open eyes gleaming eerily in the night, staring intently at him.

He didn't move immediately; his pupils suddenly contracted.

In an instant, he activated his eerie eye.

In my field of vision, the owl outside the window was not shrouded in any yin energy; it was just an ordinary messenger.

After confirming there were no traps, Zhang Ying relaxed his tense muscles slightly and reached out to open the window.

A cold wind blew in, but the owl didn't fly into the house; it just tilted its head and opened its beak.

Zhang Ying reacted quickly, pulling a neatly folded envelope from its mouth.

Mission accomplished, the owl let out a low, hoarse cry, flapped its wings, and vanished instantly into the vast night.

Zhang Ying closed the window and then opened the envelope.

There was no letter inside, only a piece of old, yellow paper, rough to the touch, with twisted patterns drawn on it in cinnabar, making it look more like a talisman.

In the center of the talisman, several lines of shocking black characters were written:

"Leave the neighborhood if you don't want your family to get hurt."

The moment Zhang Ying finished reading the last word, the yellow talisman in his hand spontaneously combusted. The eerie blue flames instantly engulfed the paper, and in the blink of an eye, it turned into a pinch of warm ash at his fingertips, which drifted away in the wind.

Zhang Ying stared at the ashes remaining on his fingertips, his brows furrowing into a deep frown.

"What was bound to happen has finally happened," he muttered to himself, his voice hoarse.

Although this talisman carries a threat, it doesn't exude a strong eerie aura; rather, it serves as a warning.

It's just unknown whether the organization that came knocking this time was the "Spiritual Exchange Association" or a henchman from the ghost-repelling side.

Neither side is easy to deal with.

Zhang Ying got out of bed and quickly changed into a dark-colored tracksuit that was easy to move in.

He tiptoed to the next room and pushed open the door a crack.

My mother is sleeping soundly on her side, her breathing steady and long.

My mom has Li Xuejie's mark on her body. If something happens to my mom, Li Xuejie will be able to sense it immediately.

Looking at his mother's peaceful sleeping face, Zhang Ying's fierceness subsided a bit, and he gently closed the door.

Stepping out of his apartment, Zhang Ying found the stairwell pitch black. Without turning on his phone's flashlight, he descended the stairs step by step in the eerie, dim light.

The neighborhood was eerily quiet late at night; even the occasional chirping of insects that usually rang out during the day had vanished.

Apart from the rustling sounds of a few stray cats and dogs darting through the bushes, there was no other sound.

Zhang Ying walked on the stone-paved road in the community, his eyes wide open, scanning his surroundings back and forth, not missing any unusual fluctuations.

Within a radius of 100 meters, apart from the stray animals, he couldn't see a single person.

He cautiously walked out of the residential compound and onto the street outside.

Just as he was about to search for further clues, his gaze was suddenly drawn to the ground.

In the shadows where the streetlights don't reach, a straight black line appears abruptly on the asphalt road.

The black line didn't seem to be drawn on; it looked as if it grew out of the ground, emitting a faint suction force, guiding him like a road sign.

Zhang Ying hesitated for a moment, then took a step forward and followed the black line.

The black line meandered and twisted, leading him through street after street. After winding and turning, he soon arrived at an old, narrow alley.

This area appears to be slated for demolition; the houses on both sides are dilapidated, with peeling paint revealing the red bricks underneath.

As he walked to the center of the alley, the black line that had been guiding him suddenly broke and disappeared in front of a mottled wall.

Zhang Ying stopped and looked around. A dead end?

Just as he was wondering where the person looking for him was, and even suspecting he'd been tricked, a hoarse, middle-aged man's shout suddenly rang out from above him:

"You have absolutely no sense of caution! If I had laid an ambush here, you would probably be dead by now!"

Zhang Ying felt a chill run down his spine and abruptly looked up in the direction of the sound.

Two figures dressed in black and wearing white masks were seen standing at the edge of the concrete railing on the rooftop of the bungalow in front of them.

The moonlight shone on the two of them.

The two people, one tall and one short, one big and one small, looked down at him like two guardian deities.

Under the gaze of the eerie eye, he could see the details of their bodies clearly.

There was no yin energy, nor were they detected by the Ghost Eye; the two were human, not ghosts.

The tall one was a man, as imposing as an iron tower. The short one was a woman, relatively slender.

The tall man stood with his arms crossed around his waist, looking down at him with a superior air. His white mask featured a minimalist clock image with the minute hand pointing to 12 and the hour hand to 1.

The woman next to her appeared much more languid. She sat sideways on the concrete railing, one leg dangling and swinging, her arms wrapped around one knee. Her long, black hair flowed in the wind, and her mask was engraved with a clock hand, the minute hand pointing to 12 and the hour hand to 2.

"One o'clock, two o'clock..." Zhang Ying murmured to himself.

The actions of these two people aroused his extreme vigilance.

"Who are you?" Zhang Ying questioned in a deep voice, his body slightly lowered, ready to either attack or retreat at any moment. "From the Spiritual Exchange Association?"

Upon hearing the name "Spiritual and Folk Exchange Meeting," a moment of silence fell over the rooftop.

A moment later, the man with the "dot" mark on his mask spoke, his voice suddenly turning cold: "Kid, how did you find out about the Spiritual Exchange Association?! And what's your relationship with it?"

This puzzled Zhang Ying.

Judging from their tone, these two seemed uninterested in the Spiritual Exchange Association, even showing a hint of hostility. It appeared they weren't members of the association.

Is that the side of the "Reversed Torture"?

Zhang Ying did not answer immediately; his mind raced as he analyzed the current situation.

His silence angered the men on the rooftop.

"Are you mute?"

The man snorted coldly and suddenly leaned forward. The next second, he leaped directly off the rooftop, several meters high!

Zhang Ying's pupils contracted sharply, and he immediately snapped out of his thoughts.

In mid-air, the man raised his right leg high and, using the force of his fall, delivered a fierce downward kick to Zhang Ying's head!

Zhang Ying didn't dodge, or rather, the moment his opponent jumped, he realized it was too late to dodge and he had no choice but to take the hit!

The wind howled, and if that kick landed, an ordinary person would probably have their cervical spine broken on the spot.

Zhang Ying crossed his arms, blocking his way.

boom!

A loud bang suddenly rang out in the alley.

The man's low kick landed squarely between his arms.

In that instant, Zhang Ying felt as if he had been hit hard by an iron pillar. The muscles in his calves were as hard as iron, and the huge impact shook the ground beneath his feet, raising dust. His arms were kicked so hard that the bones seemed about to crack.

"Um?"

Seeing that Zhang Ying neither dodged nor avoided his powerful kick, a hint of surprise flashed in the man's eyes, followed by interest.

"Wow, you've got some skills!"

The man landed on one leg, but he didn't give Zhang Ying a chance to catch his breath. Using the leg that was being held as a pivot, he suddenly exerted force with his waist and abdomen, twisting his body, and his left leg, like a large spear, kicked fiercely towards Zhang Ying's face with a whistling wind!

This series of movements was fluid and lightning fast.

Zhang Ying's pupils reflected the magnified sole of the shoe, leaving him no time to parry. He could only rely on instinct, bending his upper body backward as far as he could to barely dodge the attack.

call--

The force of the side kick slashed across his cheek like a knife, stinging his skin.

The man missed his target, then flipped over in mid-air and landed steadily on the ground.

Taking advantage of the opportunity, Zhang Ying leaped backward, instantly creating a distance of five or six meters. He was panting heavily, and his arms were trembling slightly.

The man turned around, slowly twisted his wrist, making a crisp "crackling" sound, and said with a hint of evaluation, "Your physical fitness is good, and your reaction is quick enough, but your kung fu is a bit lacking. You've hardly ever practiced it."

He then asked again, his tone more serious than before: "Kid, don't play dumb. What exactly is your relationship with the Spiritual Exchange Association?"

Zhang Ying straightened up, rubbed his numb arm, gritted his teeth, and said, word by word:

"A relationship that will never end."

"Hahaha!"

The man was taken aback for a moment, then burst into hearty laughter.

"Good! A fight to the death, indeed!" the man laughed, slapping his thigh. "That's right, those bastards should be wiped out!"

Upon hearing this, Zhang Ying's vigilance lessened slightly, but it wasn't completely dispelled.

Just then, a lazy female voice came from the rooftop.

The woman who had been sitting on the fence, nicknamed "Two O'Clock," yawned, her voice clear but tinged with impatience: "Boss, time is tight, and the mission is heavy. We're being urged from above. Stop catching up here."

"Okay, okay."

The man shrugged, stretched his shoulders, and then his gaze returned to Zhang Ying. His relaxed expression instantly turned sharp as a knife.

"Kid, since you're not one of those bastards' lackeys, then come with us."

Before he could finish speaking, the man suddenly kicked off with his foot.

The concrete ground cracked instantly, and he was like a cannonball, covering several meters in the blink of an eye and arriving in front of Zhang Ying.

A strong sense of oppression rushed over him. Before Zhang Ying could react, a large hand reached for his collar!
