Chapter 15 Blessing
Wriggling worms, maggots?
In that case, Levitt felt that Old Scar didn't need to remind him at all.
The crescent moon is indeed a maggot.
But the question is, when did this maggot, which wasn't dead, crawl into his body?
"How do you know the name Crescent Moon?" Levitt asked, somewhat puzzled. Crescent Moon had mentioned Goblin Rotten Blade's name before he died, and now Old Scar had revealed Crescent Moon's name as well?
So you all know each other behind the scenes, but I'm the only one who doesn't?
Faced with Levitt's questioning expression, Rotten Knife hesitated for a moment, and after exchanging a glance with Old Scar, he finally decided to tell the truth: "Levitt, there's something we haven't told you."
When I led my people to attack you, it wasn't out of hatred as I claimed, but because of the crescent moon.
Levitt wore an "I knew it" expression, waiting for the next installment.
"What do goblins look like in the public eye?" Rotten Knife changed the subject, throwing the question at Levitt.
"Short, weak, insidious, and cruel, they steal women and eat children; they are an absolute scourge that must be eradicated," Levitt stated bluntly.
Rotten Knife: "So, what do we look at it now?"
Levitt's eyes darted between the two goblins: "Not entirely."
Rotten Knife removed his bone helmet, revealing that, like other goblins, his head had very few hairs.
The broken sword without its bone helmet momentarily disoriented Levitt. It seemed no different from any other goblin, and even the old scars on its face were more memorable than the broken sword itself.
It seemed that this was the rotten knife's intention. After catching the astonishment in Levitt's eyes, it said, "So, it's not entirely not true."
Although humans have a misunderstanding of the goblins they hate and are determined to eradicate, goblins are indeed weak.
Over the course of a few hundred years, their habitat expanded from covering the entire continent to its current state, where they barely survive in dense forests and deep mountains.
The rotten knife paused, its eyes scanning Levitt's entire body. "Others of our kind think other humanoid creatures are ugly, but in my eyes you are like a peacock."
Not only that, your intellect and courage also amaze me.
I cannot find these traits in any of my own kind, but I can see them in your other kind.
However, goblins are not inherently inferior, and humans were not inherently superior.
"So what do you think is the reason?" Levitt asked.
"Because goblins are not favored by the gods," Old Scar interjected. "Elves have beauty, dwarves have craftsmanship, harpies have wings... but the gods of mankind have given mankind a tenacious will."
The goblin alone received only a promise.
"God blesses when goblins suffer," Rotten Knife said, tapping his temple with his finger. "That's what makes us different in your eyes."
"So, the blessings are different for each person?" Levitt understood a little. This so-called blessing should be a special buff given to certain individuals by the "gods".
Rotten Knife is clearly smarter, while the goblin tribe that Rotten Knife is fighting against today seems to be slightly different.
"That's right, Old Scar's blessing is wisdom." Rotten Knife's words surprised Levitt; he hadn't expected Old Scar to be the mastermind.
"That group of goblins' blessing is reproduction, right?" Levitt guessed boldly, combining the number of goblins he had fought in the previous battle with their weak fighting strength.
"You're really smart." Old Scar's eyes showed admiration.
"What does the blessing have to do with the crescent moon?" Levitt asked, eager to hear what was to come.
Old Scar replied, "As we just mentioned, humans have their gods, goblins have their gods, and mages have their gods."
Deities also experience joy, anger, sorrow, and happiness, and the relationships between them are also very complex.
Our god is at odds with the goddess of weaving, and as the chosen ones of the god, it is perfectly normal for us to kill the chosen ones of the goddess of weaving.
Pleasing the gods will bring greater rewards.
Are mages considered the chosen ones of the goddess of thread?
"So, according to you, the worms inside my body are also a kind of magic?"
"The crescent moon turned into an insect?" Levitt steered the conversation back on track.
"It's very likely," Old Scar nodded. "This kind of spell is extremely rare, and it's not entirely a spell."
A sorcerer cannot curse you without physical contact.
To eliminate it, you must address it from two aspects: one is magical, and the other is physical.
"Does that mean I need to have surgery to remove the bugs?" Levitt muttered, recalling how, since joining the Flower Moon Adventurer Group, Crescent Moon had indeed had countless opportunities to place so-called bugs on him.
"Goblin... As far as I know, there probably aren't any unfathomable goblin wizards in the Monster Forest yet, so I suggest you leave the Monster Forest and head to a big city, otherwise once the insects awaken, they will eat you." Old Scar stretched out his aged finger and drew circles in front of Levitt's eyes, imitating the way insects swam.
"How do you know the insects are asleep?" Levitt asked.
"We dissected the gray-skinned orc's corpse, and there was a leech-like worm inside its head," Rotten Knife replied.
Alright, I thought Old Scar had some insights, but it turns out he's just the old man's usual charlatanry.
"What about the insects? What about the corpses?" Levitt asked again.
"The bug is here." The rotten knife had already prepared in advance, placing a round glass bottle on the table, inside which was a golden leech.
If Rotten Knife hadn't told him beforehand that it was a leech, Levitt would have thought it was just an excessively large ear of golden rice.
The leech was wriggling, and from a distance it looked just like a giant rice plant.
"As for the corpse." Rotten Knife turned his gaze to the roasted meat in front of Levitt.
"You!" Levitt frowned, feeling nauseous.
"Just kidding, we don't eat people." A mischievous smile appeared on Rotten Knife's face.
You deserve to die!
Levitt increasingly felt that Rotten Knife was different from other goblins.
"As for the mage's corpse, we sacrificed it to the gods along with the treasures." Rotten Knife indicated that he was powerless to do anything about any possible demands Levitt might make later.
When Levitt heard the news, his expression did become somewhat displeased, but he didn't say anything.
Just then, a noise came from inside the passageway. Upon hearing the sound, Rotten Knife said, "That's about all we can do to help." He then took a bag from a goblin that came over.
He placed the bag containing something soft on the stone table, and Levitt could see some blood seeping from the bottom of the bag.
Upon opening it, I discovered it contained a bunch of goblin ears.
Levitt looked up in surprise and saw Rotten Knife smile slightly and say, "I take back the statement that 'you never saved a goblin'."
And, I care about this a lot too, bro.
