Chapter 17 Stolen
"To cast spells without being restricted by the Goddess of Threads? But how can I circumvent her supervision?"
Levitt muttered to himself as he stretched out his palm, a glimmer of light shining through the darkness between his fingers—the town of Zenda.
The town of Zenda is like a bonfire, attracting people who want to rest under the starlit night sky.
Adventurers embark on a journey in pursuit of the future they have promised themselves in their fantasies.
Like moths to a flame? Flocked to it in droves?
Looking at the adventurers passing by, some were crying in frustration, some were laughing with joy, and some were muttering about who hadn't returned.
Levitt opened the kettle and took a sip; at least he was back.
I've lived another day.
The town of Zenda is much more lively at night than during the day. Most of the tasks they do during the day allow them to indulge in a life of pleasure and debauchery only at night.
It is said that a considerable number of entertainment businesses in the town have the influence of the imperial government.
It's all about making and spending money in Zenda. Most adventurers probably understand that achieving success and fame by leaving Zenda is likely impossible.
It's about living in the present.
But Levitt didn't think there was anything wrong with it. In a sense, he was no different from others because he could only live on the healing potion.
To get to the Adventurers' Guild, you have to pass through the busiest street, where you can always see harpies waving their arms around with their breasts exposed on the second floor.
Big breasts are always dizzying. Li Weite took another look and accidentally bumped into someone. He quickly stepped back and apologized.
"Can't you see? Hey, buddy." The one who was bumped into was a dwarf with a bulbous nose. He looked at Levitt drunkenly and chuckled.
"It's you." When Levitt saw that he had bumped into an old acquaintance, he was no longer so reserved.
"Welcome back. You've made a great start to your adventurous career." The man with the red nose noticed that there was blood on Levitt's body and he looked tired, but he wasn't missing any limbs. He pulled out a beer from somewhere and handed it to him.
"Did someone buy you a drink today?" Levitt's mouth was still full of the bitter taste of expired medicine, so he took a sip of beer to wash it off.
"Iron Pillar is the most popular!" The red-nosed man who called himself Iron Pillar took back his beer and dragged Levitt to sit down outside a roadside pub.
"Give my best friend a beer, put it on the tab!" Tie Zhu patted the waitress's thigh.
The waitress frowned, realizing she'd been groped. She recognized Tie Zhu and her gaze naturally fell on Li Weite's face. "Would you pay for him?"
"Two beers," Levitt said, handing over the money for the drinks under the waitress's sympathetic gaze.
"Another newbie being targeted," the waitress muttered as she went to get the drinks.
"Hehe, you've treated me again." Tie Zhu grinned triumphantly, his big beard trembling wildly; his skin was truly thick.
Iron Pillar looks like an ordinary dwarf.
He was short, old, with a thick beard, wearing a horned helmet, and his tattered leather armor was filthy.
Levitt was certainly not one to be taken advantage of; he had questions to ask.
After the waitress brought the beer, Levitt looked around to make sure no one was watching, then asked Tiezhu, who was drinking:
"I forgot to register when I was hunting goblins, but I happened to get some goblin left ears. In this situation—"
"I advise you not to go. The association will do everything they can to withhold your bounty, take your left ear, and if you refuse, they'll throw you in jail." Tie Zhu hiccuped. "That's just how the policy is."
Hearing Tie Zhu say this, Li Weite, who still held onto a sliver of hope, finally gave up.
If the delivery of props and materials is suspected or accused of being of being obtained illegally, the reward will definitely be lost and pocketed by someone else.
The cool beer soothed Levitt's fatigue; in fact, he had been mentally prepared:
Apart from the rice leeches, the goblin left ear brought back from the Monster Forest was just a bunch of junk.
"Let me see your sword." Tie Zhu noticed Levitt's new short sword.
"Are you a blacksmith?" This was Levitt's stereotype, as if every elf were beautiful.
"Just out of curiosity." Tie Zhu took the sword from Levitt and examined it.
Coincidentally, an unremarkable-looking elf also passed by Levitt.
Not everything was as he thought.
"A piece of junk!" Tie Zhu commented, placing the short sword on the table.
"You don't know anything, you're not even a blacksmith." Levitt didn't care about Tiezhu's evaluation; he believed his judgment was correct.
"Never forged iron before? Haven't you ever seen blacksmithing?" Tie Zhu shook his head and muttered.
Levitt didn't seem to care, put the dagger back at his waist, and downed his beer in one gulp.
"I have something to do—"
"Wait a minute! I'll take you to get the money later."
Tie Zhu interrupted Li Weite and continued sipping his beer leisurely.
"Money?" Levitt sat down with interest, wondering if this dwarf actually had money.
"Any news about Rose and Gray Mouse?" Levitt asked, remembering that he had casually mentioned asking Tiezhu to help find them.
"No." Beer foam clung to Tie Zhu's beard.
"It was just a casual question," Levitt sighed. He didn't expect Tiezhu to be very reliable.
"What do you mean by that? I repaid you yesterday." Tie Zhu was referring to the vomiting incident.
Upon hearing this, Levitt subconsciously looked around, but did not see the hooded man or his companion.
"Let's go, I'll take you to get the money." Tie Zhu finished his beer and got up to leave.
After thinking about it, Levitt followed after them.
"Young man, when I was your age..."
This is a classic drunken boasting session among dwarves, and Levitt is quite used to it. Although there are no dwarves in modern times, there are still plenty of people who boast while drinking.
When the topic of adventure came up, Levitt asked, "So you're an adventurer? What's your profession?"
"I'm a skilled lock-picking thief," Tie Zhu said, extending his short, stubby five fingers.
"Do you usually pick your nose?" Levitt chuckled.
Upon hearing this, Tie Zhu withdrew four fingers, leaving only his little finger, and hooked it.
As he walked, Levitt felt increasingly familiar with the street. From afar, he spotted the Sea Serpent Weapon Shop, the very shop where he had bought his short sword.
A halfling brushed past Levitt, as light as a breeze.
Tie Zhu led Li Weite directly to the entrance of the Sea Serpent Weapon Shop, said, "Come on in," opened the door, and shouted inside, "Boss!"
"Hello, oh?" The boss was tidying up the shelves with his back to them when he turned around and saw Li Weite behind Tie Zhu, and his expression froze.
"You have a business opportunity," Tie Zhu said, then turned to reach out to Li Weite.
Levitt realized that the function here was not just about buying and selling weapons. He took out the bag containing the goblin's left ear and handed it to Iron Pillar.
Tie Zhu and the shop owner, who greeted him with a glance, walked into the door behind the weapons shop counter.
A few minutes later, Tie Zhu came out carrying a small bag about the size of a palm.
Levitt tried to take the bag, but Tie Zhu didn't give it to him and instead walked past him and left the store.
"What are you doing? Give it to me!" Levitt chased after him.
"I'm not really keen on giving it to you right now. You'll regret it once you get it. Why don't you wait a few days and come back to me?" Tie Zhu chuckled.
Wait a few days?
Levitt didn't really trust a drunkard, so he simply raised an eyebrow and snatched the bag from Tiezhu's hand.
However, as soon as Levitt took the bag in his hand, it vanished in the next second.
"Haha, I told you you'd regret it. You got robbed by that halfling." Tie Zhu laughed heartlessly.
"You can steal like that?" Levitt was shocked. Just ten minutes ago, he had only brushed past that halfling!
