Chapter 4 The Death of Crescent Moon

Last night, even when the Flower Moon Adventurer Group was in good condition, they were ambushed by goblins and fled in disarray. Now, with only two people left, they are in a state of panic and confusion.

Ralph could still fight with difficulty, but Crescent Moon was already terrified.

Protecting Crescent Moon, who couldn't even chant the complete incantation, Ralph finally resigned himself to his fate. He fought against the invading goblins while directing Crescent Moon to escape.

"Don't look back! Run!" Ralph's voice rang out from behind, and Crescent Moon fled in a disheveled state in the direction the other had just pointed.

Crescent Moon felt no sensation in her limbs; it felt as if a fire had been lit in her lungs and was burning up to her throat.

"Run! Run! Run!"

Only when the death knell-like sounds of the deadly battle ceased did Crescent Moon finally give in and kneel down.

She was breathing heavily when she suddenly grabbed a tree and started gagging. Bile fluid came out of her mouth, and she felt exhausted from running so hard that the world was spinning before her eyes.

Since the goblin attack last night, she hasn't had a proper rest. Her magic hasn't fully recovered, and she had to use magic to force the two of them to get around the swamp. Now she's even cast a bait spell on Ralph again.

Xianyue wiped the strands of hair stuck to her face and took a few more breaths, but she was still somewhat afraid of the endless road in front of her.

Ralph is gone, and now he's all alone.

"I can't die, I can't let them down."

Gritting her teeth, Crescent Moon, her eyes red, tried to stand up.

"Miss Crescent Moon, it seems you'll fall down if no one supports you?"

A voice came from behind. Crescent Moon was initially on guard, but then she recognized who the voice belonged to.

Her despairing expression suddenly cleared, and she turned to say, "Levitt! You, you're still alive! That's wonderful!"

"Okay, really okay?" Levitt put one hand on his hip and pointed the other at his nose. "It's definitely a good thing for you that I'm alive. You can trick me one more time, right?"

"No, it's not like that." Crescent Moon's azure eyes suddenly dimmed considerably, as if all the world's grievances had turned into a downpour and fallen on her, making her look pitiful.

"What are you doing here? Where are Ralph and the others?" Levitt looked around.

Upon hearing this, Crescent Moon's eyes darted around, and she said aggrievedly, "Levitt, listen to me. I was actually controlled by Ralph. I didn't want to cast a spell on you, but Ralph manipulated me into doing so."

I can no longer tolerate his control over me, and I blame myself for leaving you there, even though you saved me.

So I ran away, but now it seems there's no point in saying anything, since what's done is done.

"Really?" Levitt raised an eyebrow, seemingly deep in thought.

But how could he not know where Ralph was?

So he understood that this bitch in front of him was lying; what a strong will to survive.

But there's a strange question: why would Ralph sacrifice his life for the crescent moon?

Is their friendship really that deep?

"It's true... Levitt, I'm so sorry, I didn't mean it."

"Actually, I also feel the same way about you..." Xian Yue said, looking at him with tender eyes.

Levitt rubbed his nose and stepped forward. He extended his right hand, and Xianyue thought he was going to help her up. But as soon as he reached out, Levitt slapped her across the left cheek.

"Huh?"

"Still lying?"

"I don't!"

"Snap—"

"I know I was wrong!"

"You know you're going to die."

Li Weite slapped her several times, causing Xian Yue to cover her bleeding nose and see stars.

"Don't be angry, it doesn't have to be like this. As long as you don't kill me, I'll do anything..." Crescent Moon was slapped so hard that she sat on the ground, tears streaming down her face, looking at Levitt in terror.

While begging for mercy, she couldn't help but feel surprised.

Why did this farmer, who used to listen to me so obediently, suddenly hit me?

Perhaps, this rude and violent demeanor is his true nature!

They'd been putting on an act for so many days, and I'd actually believed them!

"Anything is fine with me?" Levitt reached out and grabbed her handbag, making the sound of coins clinking together.

I wonder what good stuff is inside?

"Let's leave here first, okay?" Crescent Moon looked scared, her eyes constantly glancing in the direction she had just come from.

"Right here." Levitt shook his head. He really couldn't leave with Crescent Moon because the goblin on the road was still watching him. If he made any rash moves, he would definitely get shot by an arrow.

Moreover, he didn't want to gamble with his own life.

"Please, not here, I can't die, I absolutely can't die." Crescent Moon clutched her head, her body trembling like a leaf.

"So afraid of dying, and you call yourself an adventurer." Levitt rolled his eyes, then said, "Now it's my turn to ask you a question. What was that vine spell from last night...?"

Xian Yue was surprised that Li Weite would ask this. Recalling how he had always seemed like a complete country bumpkin, asking questions here and there, she quickly explained it to him.

Having witnessed magic last night, and after being introduced to it, Levitt successfully gained knowledge points.

【Entwined Vines (1 Ring)】 (Unlocked) 100 Knowledge.

Description: The earth is cracked, and thick weeds and thorny vines suddenly sprout from the ground, spreading wildly in a certain area. These plants that grow out of nowhere turn this area into difficult terrain, and those who cannot break free will be bound.

【Magic Barrier (1 Ring)】 (Unlocked) 100 Knowledge.

Description: A semi-transparent, light blue light barrier that reduces melee damage and blocks ranged attacks. It disappears after taking a certain amount of damage.

But including the decoy techniques already known, only three were mentioned.

Seeing that Crescent Moon had stopped talking, Levitt frowned. How come Crescent Moon only knew three spells in the end?

"That's it?"

Faced with Li Weite's question, Xian Yue clutched her head and weakly said, "No, my head hurts, I feel so dizzy."

Whether he was faking it or had actually slapped himself, Levitt didn't know. In any case, now that Crescent Moon's magic was exhausted, it couldn't cause any big trouble.

How to deal with Crescent Moon is not important. What Levit cares about is the knowledge points that Crescent Moon can give, and the spells that he can unlock in the future.

The mages in this world are the real masters.

And where did those two adulterers, Gray Mouse and Rose, go?

"Let's go then." Levitt extended his hand to Crescent Moon.

Crescent Moon thought Levitt was going to beat him up, so he closed his eyes in fright. Then, realizing that he wasn't going to be beaten up, he cautiously put his hand on her.

Standing up, Xian Yue rubbed her weak legs. Her nosebleed had stopped, but her face was red and swollen, making her look quite disheveled.

Just as Levitt was about to speak, Crescent Moon suddenly flicked her right hand backward and then forward, sending a fireball hurtling towards Levitt from her palm.

Didn't they run out of magic?

Levitt instinctively closed his eyes, but nothing happened. When he opened his eyes, the fireball had just dissipated in front of him.

That bitch is putting on airs!

Levitt no longer cared about the goblin that was only staring at him. He saw Crescent Moon's figure disappear into the forest and chased after it without saying a word.

As he lifted his foot, a furious cry came from the bushes behind him.

"Don't run!"

Levitt shouted, but before he had run a few steps, he heard a strange "whoosh" coming from ahead.

As soon as he stopped, the goblins chasing him with bows also stopped.

"I didn't mean to run away," Levitt said in Goblin, then cautiously peered forward.

Ahead lay a pitfall trap. Crescent Moon clung to the edge with both hands, looking at him with pleading eyes.

"Hurry, hurry and save me! I won't run away anymore, Levitt." Below the crescent moon were sharpened pieces of wood.

Levitt remembered that the goblin map marked some areas of the Monster Forest as pitfall traps.

"Why bother, Miss Crescent Moon?" Levitt crossed his arms, growing angrier the more he looked at Crescent Moon, but he still sighed. Just as he bent down to reach out, he said, "Hold on, I'll be right there—"

"I will definitely persist—" Crescent Moon's hand was unsteady, she lost her grip on the ground, and instead grabbed a handful of withered leaves.

"Pfft!"

Levitt's hand froze in mid-air as he looked at the bloody scene below, and he couldn't help but mutter, "In a way, I've learned something new."
