Chapter 60: Are you threatening me?
"What's wrong?" Einstein asked, his eyes deepening with even more confusion as he saw Char's expression. "What did you see over there?"
"Is it that our solution is not working?" Tesla asked.
"The one who killed Cain will suffer sevenfold retribution." Char looked at Einstein and recited the passage from the Bible.
Einstein was taken aback, but he quickly realized what was happening, and his pupils contracted slightly.
After a brief silence, Tesla continued.
"So, at the very least, she can choose to die together with someone else?"
"It doesn't necessarily mean mutual destruction." Einstein sat back on the sofa, stroking his chin and saying seriously, "The immortality of vampires has been extended in many works, and I wouldn't be surprised if the contractors of these progenitor-level vampires... could be resurrected somewhere after death."
He looked at Xia and said with a helpless wry smile, "It seems we'll have to try to get our hands on the Vilvia family."
"No." Xia's gaze was fixed ahead, but unfocused; his thoughts were elsewhere. "To control her with that so-called 'thing,' you don't necessarily need to actually possess it."
He looked at Einstein and Tesla, "Does she have a way to verify it?"
Einstein frowned, then relaxed.
Char is right. Cindy is in another world, so it's impossible for her to go to the Velvia family to verify her identity.
"Will she believe it?" Tesla said.
Char took a deep breath and did not answer Einstein and Tesla's questions.
His gaze fell on the flickering flames in the living room fireplace.
Then he activated time travel once again.
"Char!" Einstein's voice came from behind, carrying a rare hint of urgency.
But he didn't stop.
In that instant, the warm yellow firelight in the living room, the crackling of firewood in the fireplace, and the faint birdsong in the valley all vanished.
Before the overwhelming killing intent completely consumed him, the will to survive made him utter a single sentence.
"My teacher asked me to tell you that he has something."
Cindy's sharp fingernails stopped precisely three inches from Char's throat.
Char's throat moved, and his fingers trembled slightly, but he continued.
"Something... that Cain gave you."
It's not hard to guess what the "thing" from the Vivier family that supposedly controls her is.
The all-seeing eye has already provided the answer—a kind of unique, associated restriction device belonging to her.
Char didn't know the specific form of this forbidden tool, but if he did, it would probably be more convincing.
He wasn't even entirely sure whether the demon who made the pact with Cindy was Cain or Lilith.
But Char had to reveal something... information he shouldn't know at this moment.
However, he was 70% certain.
After all, without Cain's "sevenfold revenge," where would she have gotten the confidence to kill herself?
Cindy didn't react for a moment, but the next instant, her pupils suddenly contracted.
"That's impossible!"
"That's what he told me," Xia shrugged.
His expression remained unchanged, but his heart was pounding like a drum.
He made the right bet.
However, he still tried his best to suppress his heart rate.
Given the other person's perception, it would be easy to tell that he was lying, given how fast his heart was beating.
After initially creating the first third-order configuration, he had a strong grasp of his body, and he had also undergone a certain degree of training in preparation for facing this witch.
"I'm not quite sure what he meant either," Xia continued, his tone less urgent than before. He looked at Cindy, his eyelids slightly lowered, "but it seems to be of some use to you."
"How could that thing possibly be in your hands! It's clearly in..." Cindy paused, staring intently at Xia.
"Where?" Xia raised an eyebrow. "Why did you stop talking?"
"Are you trying to trick me into revealing information?"
Char smiled. "In Vervia, right?"
Cindy's breath caught in her throat.
Char's lips curled into a barely perceptible smile.
From the perspective of the Vilvia family, Cindy has been transported to this world by Einstein for more than two months, and her fate is unknown.
They couldn't hold back any longer, so they tried to leak some information to Einstein to see if they could get Cindy back.
From Cindy's perspective, however, she had only been in this world for a few minutes.
The Vervia family would never have revealed such information to Einstein.
This is the second piece of information that "he shouldn't have known".
Combined with Char's previous revelation that "he shouldn't have known," this was enough to throw Cindy into disarray.
Char continued his relentless pursuit, speaking up.
"For Einstein, finding something shouldn't be difficult."
You really have no other choice.
I imagine you wouldn't want to be exiled to a place like this forever, would you?
Cindy didn't speak.
The area fell silent. The damp, cold air, thick with the smell of rust and decay, filled Xia's nostrils with each breath, creating an unsettling atmosphere.
Char could see the muscles in her jaw twitching slightly. She clenched her teeth and then squeezed out a sound through the gaps between them.
"Are you...threatening me?"
Char was about to speak—
A few small pebbles at his feet bounced slightly in place.
The sound of something wet being dragged through the ruins grew louder as it approached.
The object was enormous; the ground trembled slightly as it was moved.
The fog swelled.
Soon, the outline of something emerged from the grayish-white mist.
Char's breath hitched.
The thing looked like a gigantic centipede, as tall as a three-story building when it stood upright.
Its head almost reached the second-floor window of the half-collapsed building next to it. Its enormous mouth split open, revealing a dense array of inward-growing teeth.
The thing didn't even look at Xia, but pounced straight at Cindy!
Cindy stood still, not even glancing at anything, but simply raised her hand, fingers spread, as if grasping something in the void.
The monster's charge came to an abrupt halt in mid-air.
She slowly clenched her fist.
The thing made a muffled sound, like the sound of airflow produced when something is squeezed.
Cindy's fingers tightened even more.
"Click-click-"
Then--
"Bang!"
Dark red liquid spurted from every crevice of its body—its eye sockets, mouth, and skin.
The skin burst open, and blood, flesh, and internal organs splattered outwards like a waterfall.
"Splash!"
Blood fell like rain.
The impact on the gravel made a "pattering" sound, like a sudden summer downpour.
Cindy stood in the center of the blood rain.
She didn't dodge.
Blood poured down from her head, flowing down her hair and soaking her already tattered robe.
Cindy's face, neck, and arms were covered in blood. It was dark red, still dripping, fresh and warm.
Amidst the rain of blood, she slowly grinned, revealing a maniacal, bewitching smile.
